Just spotted this thread! I've long had a hankering for a 4WD Mk.6 or Mk.7 Fiesta, so always interested in seeing anything get the 4WD conversion treatment.
Good job so far and please keep the updates coming! :thumb:

Very nice work so far, will be watching this!

I just want to see a vid of being put through its paces. Is it going to have the standard 5 inch scooby exhaust, or will that give too much away?

A quick update – not the most productive weekend, however I got some more paint put on under the arches so I can concentrate on getting it back on its wheels next week,
http://www.ian-rachel.co.uk/car/car260.jpg I spent a couple of hours cleaning bolts and then had an issue with one of the wishbone captive nuts the bolt gets tight after about 5 turns, may have some weld splatter in there, I will get a tap for next week and run it through them all… I managed to get a few things bolted on that hopefully will stay on now, engine bay seems smaller now in white hope it all fits!! http://www.ian-rachel.co.uk/car/car261.jpg http://www.ian-rachel.co.uk/car/car262.jpg Steering column painted and mounted, made a small alloy spacer to drop down 10mm may need another when I get the seat in place http://www.ian-rachel.co.uk/car/car264.jpg http://www.ian-rachel.co.uk/car/car263.jpg Filler work on the driver’s rear quarter is nearly done http://www.ian-rachel.co.uk/car/car265.jpg Plan for next few weeks is to get the gearbox in and pick up the matching diff and fit that and get it on its wheels… then bank holiday week I will pick my engine up and get that fitted, I’m nowhere near it running yet I have load to purchase still turbo ect!!! Then it will be a mix of wiring and getting the body painted while I save some $ for some more bits... |
You say unproductive, but it's starting to take shape nicely:thumb:

Got a bit more done this weekend,
After my issues last week with captive nuts in the chassis I borrowed this set of thread cleaners from a mate, ran them through and although it didn’t seem like they were doing anything, what a difference all bolts now going in freely… http://www.ian-rachel.co.uk/Car/car271.jpg Then started to build up front suspension only to find that I had screwed the front wheel bearings moving the car around with no driveshaft’s in so had to leave that but after a visit to Paul at CCD I now have two new hubs to fit next week :thumb: was looking good though… http://www.ian-rachel.co.uk/Car/car270.jpg So moved onto the Gearbox, I sprayed the cradle and refitted it gave the box a bit of a clean and that’s now in place ready for the engine in a couple of weeks. http://www.ian-rachel.co.uk/Car/car269.jpg http://www.ian-rachel.co.uk/Car/car266.jpg And now I have a gearstick to play with…:norty: http://www.ian-rachel.co.uk/Car/car272.jpg Then after giving the rear cradle and diff support another coat of paint I got those fitted and got the new matching diff in place, http://www.ian-rachel.co.uk/Car/car268.jpg http://www.ian-rachel.co.uk/Car/car267.jpg I ran out of time this week but I can now get the propshaft fitted and see how short it is and whether I can have spacers made or have to get prop extended. Hopefully should be back rolling next weekend… |
Looking good fella, shouldn't be long now...... I'm even getting a bit excited haha

Cheers Mick... Not so sure thou the shopping list is pretty huge still so need to do some saving, luckily I have some jobs to do that don't involve much cash, wiring, spraying outside ect...
Cheers James, I was going to make some sill stands from box section but had these axle stands that we're pretty useless with a deep V so modified them, it's proper solid on them... Have you put an alternator on yours yet? I have a feeling I'm going to be tight on the bonnet, that my main reason I want to get the engine in before I paint the bonnet... You managed to get any done on yours?? I'm determined to get the bodywork finished and save all the nice jobs until last although its rather slow hobbling around the car on my crutches lol. Have you sorted an engine yet? James |
Cracking progress mate, really looking forward to seeing this completed.

Yes mate I have tested the alternator, it' sits close to the front panel but it should be fine there's plenty clearance under the bonnet on mine so I would of though yours should be ok too.

James engine... yes its a v5 wrx, bottom end has been rebuilt new shells and mains, bores and pistons were all good, heads have been skimmed and tested they should be going on this week hopefully if not next week depending how busy they are... still need to source a turbo and few other bits but that can wait, |

Well spent a few days on the car this week… a bit of a lack of pictures kept forgetting to take any :norty:
I started on the Subaru wiring loom chopping out what I know I don’t require, needed a break from that so I then cleaned and painted the hubs and suspension parts and fitted them so I can put it back on its wheels, I fitted the longer studs and spacer to the o/s rear and put the rear wheels on and something didn’t look right!!!!!! http://www.ian-rachel.co.uk/Car/Car276.jpg The driver rear wheel is further in the arch than the passenger highlighted by the green marks, so I did some measuring and it looks like I’m around 4mm out (actually 8mm but moving over by 4mm will center it) :( so I dropped the rear cradle back off and checked the measurements from underneath and from the outside of the chassis rails to my bolt hole I’m spot on give or take a millimetre, but to the outside of the car its out by 4mm and not just the arch if I got to the rear valance its out by around the same, I then measured the bolt hole inside the car to various place in triangle and it’s definitely out, so I have messed up somewhere measuring using the chassis rails which could be due to them being a slightly different shape due to the fuel filler on the drivers side… Anyway I need to fix it so I have ordered a piece of 18mm tube which has a 12mm inside diameter I will make the holes bigger and sleeve it with the tube and weld it up this time in the right place, going to screw the paint work up a little but needs doing… Good news the front looked ok and I built up the front as I have to finish the bonnet catches before prepping the bonnet and was a good chance to see it panelled up again(less the doors) Also sprayed the ‘A’ pilliars satin black to save glare off the cage gussets http://www.ian-rachel.co.uk/Car/Car275.jpg http://www.ian-rachel.co.uk/Car/Car273.jpg http://www.ian-rachel.co.uk/Car/Car274.jpg Done some other small jobs but nice to see it back on its wheels again… |

Starting to see some real progress. Shame about the rear cradle and diff but not too big a job, and plain white should be easy enough to touch up: thumb:

What a build!! Coming together really nice.
