Mine's a late E46 330D, 204 bhp. Not sure how it affects more recent models - I'd expect older 330D's to be a bit worse, though, because they have more pressure converters. Mine only has a single one to operate the EGR valve, the turbo vane actuator is electric.
It went in about a year ago for pressure converter, EGR valve and vacuum hoses. This fix seems to have lasted OK, the more recent issue was a faulty injector which I had replaced at the same time as a major service. |
Have 'we' done swirl flaps though? Engine destroying issues - happened to a mate with a 2.5D swallowing his... Highest priority for me...

He pointed out that it was actually still within BMW spec, which suggests to me that the spec may be written with BMW's warranty budget higher up the priority list than keeping the car in the best possible condition. I've no doubt that a main dealer could easily have said the car was within spec and done nothing. |

The $64,000 question and very subjective.
You nailed a few reasons there, but it really depends on what you want? Do you want the petrol BHP, rev-ability and the 6 Cyl engine / exhaust note or the D's monster torque wave? IMO. The 330i would be the better bet. The 330D is nothing like the 335D for power delivery, with the 330i just getting the pip having the better sound track and free revving engine. The gains for the D are good, but will not really get you the leaps that the 335D has over the 335i (talking torque, tunability and lower depreciation here)... Have you seen the new 330d specs? It's faster off the mark in both coupé and sedan/wagon guises than the 335d! It really puts the power down with the X drive, I guess BMW is finally learning???? :hjtwofing :D:D:D |

How's that going to compute to being slower? Sure, the 0-60 for the 330 is .1 second slower, but the midrange for the 335 is way different. My comment was about the delivery not about out an out power or 0-60. Plus.. the 335 will be much more susceptible to tuning. Evolve (one of the leading tuners) has squeezed; 300 BHP from the 330D 350 from the 335D. Torque figures are 530 Ft Lbs for the 335 368 Ft Lbs for the 330 These figures (tested at Fighting Torque) put the 335D quicker than a tuned M3 CSL (decat, exhaust and ECU remap) How does this equate to being slower?? |
Off the mark it is!
If the 335d had X drive it would be even better, but it does not so............. |
BMW 330d
0 - 100 km/h (s) 6,1 0 - 100 km/h (s), xDrive 5,9 0 - 1.000 m (s) 25,8 BMW 335d 0 - 100 km/h (s) 6,0 0 - 1.000 m (s) 25,2 In std form, there is hardly any difference. There is only a difference of 60 torques between the two! (other than PS) |
But we're discussing 330 to 335 and not 4 wheel drive....or petrol v D
No point with comparing apples and oranges.... Can you even get a X drive 3 series in the UK through the dealers? |
No you can't get the X drive in RHD, otherwise I'd have a 335xi by now.

I agree too. Having a 400+ BHP 335i with sophisticated 4 wheel drive would be.... mouth-watering to say the least! |
I think only the X-drive on the X6 has active torque distribution, on the 335xi it has open front and rear diffs, but it would still be a nice package.
If my wife's employment and used car prices settle I'd like to get a 335i as a daily runabout. |

Thanks John. Makes Janspeeds point useless in this context.

As for tuning, you can tune any car to be a monster. The new 330d is an excellent buy. As for wether you can get X drive or not, it's not my problem but I guess it is a shame. |

You said I was wrong (with a :hjtwofing to follow). Was that nice and the right way to answer my post? No it wasn't. Your comment wasn't warranted because it's context was totally wrong. You were bringing nothing to the thread. |

The :hjtwofing was to indicate that BMW might be finally surrendering to AWD, and to those that think AWD is toss, not anything else!! Second it seems that every BMW thread on SNET is always crawling with people with "issues" and who cannot tolerate anything but the sight of their own posts. So as it seems that I'm not contributing anything to this (as it seems that YOU KNOW EVERYTHING) thread I'm going to waste my kb's elsewhere before I tell someone to fook off. |

BMW Performance | ECU Remap | Evolve Automotive 330d "Bought a 330d and crave after 335d performance? Well, now you can have it with the Evolve upgrade giving your 330d engine an additional 50-60 bhp and 80Nm torque taking the 330d to over 285bhp and 500Nm torque. Our highest recorded 330d power output is over 300bhp!" 500 NM is not 500 Ft Lbs.... It's 368. :wonder: There is a video they linked showing the Hardtop CSL Drag at Fighting Torque... Can't find it now. I'll keep digging. This is from their site..... remember I was talking about their 335D "Our diesel engine upgrades include the most powerful e90 / e92 335d in the country giving enough performance to beat the E46 M3 CSL over 7/8 ths of a mile (see Fighting Torque)" |
I drove a 335d the other day. Hell was it fast. Would definitely have left my old (270bhp classic) for dead. I believe they chip to nearly 350bhp with 500ft/lb
Rolling start/overtaking there is not much to touch it. |
This tilts me so hard. I've got my uncles new x5 with the 3.0 twin turbo diesel for 2 weeks and whilst its certainly quick the x5 body and auto-box just kill the performance. I really, really want to try this engine in a saloon car.
|
I wonder if I would stand a chance against a 335d in this

Aye.. No problem... :lol1:

Just bought a 330d sport instead of my uk turbo 2000-very nice and capable motor
