A 996 GT2 has 462 bhp with 0.95 bar boost.
You may be right... I won't argue about 7bhp, it's odd that many sources online say it runs at 29psi (2bar) though (bizarre) - I don't care really, so long as I have 465lb/ft under my right foot :D

Well you're feeling objective today...as usual.

There's nothing particularly wrong with the styling, anyway I thought you were the man who said "it's not what it looks like that matters". Styling is a matter of personal taste.

It's certainly not as quick in a straigh line as some cars, but is reported as being one of the most sublime drivers cars there is, perfect controls and lots of feedback with a fine chassis. It wasn't built to be a tremendously powerful car as it would have eaten into 911 Cabrio sales. It was built to be truly refined and sitting at the sharp end of the (non supercar) two seater cabrio market.

One day I hope you will get over your childish and one dimensional view of pure speed being the be-all-and-end-all of motoring.

But you can't tell which way round a porsche poxster sorry boxster is going it has no style absolutely no performance and is usually driven by hairdressers. Its hardly an enthusiasts car why not buy a proper muscle car all these horrific german imitations cluttering up the market BMW Z things how naff looking are they why don't the owners just save up and buy an AC COBRA the daddy not a cheap german copy.

Oulton Park Tuesday your best time was 2 mins 7 secs

Mine in the saph before blowing the gearbox was 2 min 4 secs

The RA you mention at Croft did 1 min 57 secs at Oulton ( Iwas on full slicks though )

No argument....my RA was the quicker car....wet....dry....whatever :) All at 1.5 bar and less torque and bhp

The only explanation I could think of is that they add the boost pressure of the 2 turbochargers (you knoy there are two, right? ;)). But even then, 0,95 + 0,95 is 1,9. But we wont argue over 0,1 bar of boost either (since you could get that with a Dawes, no, 2 Dawes :D) as long as you have a lot of torque and 462 bhp. (maybe the UK version only has 455? ;))

Very nice car, light and an engine: :) (if only the car were better balanced... :p)

Rich. I am in total agreement with you and from day one on this board I say it was fools gold to compare a scoob to a porsche. as for a turbo I just love em and one day. The brakes alone on a GT2 costs as much as late second hand UK scooby!!! enough said!!!

You are right about mods...the skyline has had everything done to get to 500 ponies. no expense spared, and all the right bits put on for added cooling, extra charge, better suspension and brakes etc. But still not a turbo and never will be!!

Neil I was not knockin you but the one one you would keep up with is the 2 WHEEL DRIVE NON TURBO 996 and then up to a point...

I am not even goign to start on cossies as I have a soft spot for them but every car has its place...I know that but I just wish others would sometime.

Funny how I have a 2min 2 sec on my in-car video! You have to remember that I had never driven Oulton Park, crashed in the morning and so it was only towards the real end of the day that I started to feel comfortable! Also, you had slicks on the front, a fully caged and race prepared race car..........errr

To the dick who has the 996 Turbo he should wind his neck in as regards the performance of his car and calling Cossies sheds! My Car has more torque and weighs 200kg less and so if he wants a drag between 50 - 130mph and put money on it, bring it on! (Please note that it has to be a rolling start as the Sierra is crap until it is moving!!)

I have a modified STiV i.e. ECU, EX, IND etc and about 300 Bhp mapped for torque 300~lbs @ 3000 rpm.

My bro has a 996 (1999) non turbo and I have driven it freely.

There is no doubt in my mind that under or upto 100 mine has the measure on it. The on road result is more frantic in my motor but the net result is I am quicker to a ton. On the approach to 100 the 996 is reeling me back in but for the first 300 yrds it is wasted.

After 100 there is no contest ..it is all 996 ...but then again just look at the aerodynamics of both cars.

I am presently looking for a quicker motor and am struggling on a budget of upto £17K. Thinking modified Supra TT or R33 GTR ???

So lightblue your car is lighter and with more torque and so is faster than his Turbo...but eeehhh you'll need a rolling start to 50 and only up to 130 please. Clearly its a close thing then on performance between your Cossie and his 996 Turbo if we take all things into account(obviously ignoring any logic)....

I am biased towards the GTR of course and can fully vouch going this way. The Supra is rwd, lots of fun but just not as quick as the GTRs and we proved this at ten of the best and subsequent events, track and off track.
as for the GTR, then with non turbo 996s or 911s no contest, right through the gears and beyond. the GTR will leave them for dead and pull up to 180-190mph at the BHP level I have. (with the right amount of space of course!!)
Turbos can be fun at my BHP level and not a great deal in it. I have won a few, lost a few as it were but always in good spirit and the prker driver is thumbs up. I doubt I could mix it with a GT2 but it depends on the track, conditions, driver skills, commitment and so on.
But a good match in good hands (just have a look at howfast.com where Jamie Martin beat turbos and GT2s with his 500 BHP GTR - a good driver with great commitment and this is where the GTR comes into its own on the track)
I know of a few GOOD gtrs for that value you mentioned so why don't you get in touch with me direct and I can talk you through...welch_nick@hotmail.com. There are some real hummers out there and would hate to see you walk into one...plus some ringers as well..we have these documented.
Best way to look at it with the GTR....
2-3k gets you 400 BHP
5-6k gets you 500 BHP
Then it gets pricey and un reliable, but a reaql hoot and a real blood drainer!! trust I have been in a 680 horse GTR and it was unreal!! Depends what floats your boat but mostly how big yer wallet (and cahoonas) are!!

Well, I was just working from memory.. I knew it was a small number (well, not small for a Scooby I suppose).. anything less than 300/tonne isn't worth thinking about ;) (oh, and I'm just winding you up - just in case you take this all too seriously !)

I can't believe you are still going on about this. You are the person who has quite explicitly said that it doesn't matter what a car looks like. You might not like the looks of the Boxster, but a lot of people do, a lot more than the number who dream about Sierras!
Of course a Boxster is an enthusiasts car, for people who like cars with plenty of feel, who like to feel that every input they make is accurately translated by the car to the road, to have throttle response, perfectly weighted steering with feedback, a sharp gearbox and a nice balance. However I'm sure all of this is lost on you, power, power, power, yawn.

You have previously stated that they are not. However I have now presented a list of facts about why a Boxster is a driver's car which you have not refuted, so you are limited to slagging off the looks of the car which are totally subjective. Either you lied before when you said they weren't important, or they are important and now you are using it as your only means to slag off the car.

PS. By resorting to personal insults you are only proving how weak your argument is.

2) If you don't like threads of this nature don't even open them let alone feckin post in them.

3) Give people a break. Not everyone can afford to own a Porsche and to a lot of people Imprezas, Evos, even Cossies ;) are quite nice cars. Ok maybe not in the same league as a Porsche, but I don't have a problem with hot-hatch drivers comparing their cars to my Scooby. Even though it is in a different league IMHO ;). Although I'm sure some people would have a problem with this.

Just enjoy your cars for what they are.

No probs Jamie, I can certainly not afford a Porsche, but that wasn't the point of my argument. Sure you can get good looking cars for a lot less money. My original point was that a Boxster is a good driver's car even if they don't have the pace of more powerful machines. Then cossie started ranting about how crap he thinks they look and to be honest I just wanted to make him look silly since he has said before that he doesn't care what cars look like.

If he would like to return to a sensible discussion on the merits or demerits of the dynamics of a Boxster I would be more than happy.

The Boxster is, without a doubt, a superb driver's car. It may not be the fastest car in the world and it may not be the prettiest (although I think it looks fine), but I don't think its reputation as driver's car is unwarranted. I think this because -

a) No matter how cynical one is about the motoring press, its good reports in that respect far outnumber its bad ones.

b) I've driven one myself and thought it was terrific.

You really need to grow up and lay off cars you know NOTHING about.

The Porsche Boxster and Boxster S are developments of a sports car genre. Much to the appreciation to Maxda with their MX-5 which revived the affordable sports car market.

While you beat your chest about how great your modfied Cosworth car is, most people WHO KNOW ABOUT CARS understand that the existence of your car doesn't mean that any other car that ISN'T a 5 seater Turbocharged Sierra should be looked down upon.

If you need to go round comparing a Sierra to a Boxster, then nothing can help you.

What did you like about it?

The feel of it. For driver enjoyment I tend to judge everything against the Teg Type R I had. I like cars that communicate well with the driver, make him feel a part of the car and the 'involving' experience that goes with that. The Boxster did that for me. That's why I liked it.

And it's quick and capable enough to see most things off, if that's your particular drug.

Mind you, I'll admit that that's just from one drive in the things. I've never owned one and, for all I know, it could be a hard car to live with on a daily basis, although I doubt it.
