The Starter motor cable does not mount to the engine. The bracket sits between the starter motor and the head of the bolt which secures the starter motor to the block. So the only point of contact with the block is through the face of the starter motor.

As i said earlier, i am not questioning the quality of the rest of the kit, and i knew nothing about this group buy until i was asked to install it by someone who purchased it via the group buy. I agree you have supplied what you said, that is not in question.

The mere point of raising this concern that David and i had, was for people who actually know very little about the ground effects of such items, eg the person i am installing for, that in our opinion the cable from battery to starter brackect was insufficient.

I have now agreed with the person i am installing it for, that i will replace the kit with a suitable 4awg cable to the starter motor, which really costs very little.

When i did my earthing kit a year or so ago, its on here somewhere, i was questioned about the size of cable i had used being insufficient for the starter connection, and that was 4awg IIRC (its now been changed due to different layout of engine etc).

Most aftermarket earthing kits dont replace the starter to battery cable, this must be for a reason, ie they think it is sufficient/requirement.

The purpose of the earthing kits is to provide as many direct routes back to the battery as possible, and not rely on the chasis as the sole route back, which is what the oem kit does IMO.

Anyway, i have now resolved the problem from my point of view, and would like to re-iterrate that other than the above, the quality of the kit is excellent and is a credit to you for having the time and patience to prepare it for other people, at what looks like cost price.

CataIunya 05 October 2004 09:54 AM

What has everyone done then with regads the starter motor cable? gone out and bought some 4AWG and crimped on some ends? you can't use the original because its mounted directly to the battery clamp ?
