Just downgraded to 8.1 after sluggish response and a big crash.
|
Im keeping to the 8.1 on laptop for a while at least for comparison if nothing else .
Tried using just touch for couple applications , and it doesnt seem to work the inbuilt security would be welcome however |
So upgraded to win10 at the weekend.
Pretty impressed so far, just seems to work. Not had any crash's and only one issue was sorted with a file verification on steam. It also seems to have sorted out an odd issue i had with video files stuttering pictures. |
Installed Windows 10 and not at all impressed, very memory hungry and crashed about 4 times.
Downgraded back to Windows 7. :thumb: |

Im persevering , got rid of microsoft edge and using chrome instead .
in desktop mode , on the tablet . |
Very happy with 10, like bioforger said give it a chance, had a few issues of "mail" crashing so installed WLM and it was fine
After a few days mucking about with it I really like it, way better than 7, Vista and 8.1 in my opinion (just an ordinary user like the majority of us) |
My tab is having hard time staying connected to router now...
Don't know why Sent from cheap Android phone on same network Gone back to 8.1 , its probably inferior , but it seems a lot easier to use |

Plus eventually Win7/8.1 will no longer be supported. Win10 is MS's last hurrah with Windows, afterwards its going to get feature and functionailty updates and upgrades only, which you won't get for previous versions. It's a no brainer. |
Done three PC's at home now..... all without much of a drama.
It just works and everything I could do before, I can still do. I'm happy. |
Well with this tablet anyway ,it seemed less responsive , all smaller icons , couldn't sweep away stuff as easily etc . I like all that you can see the apps underneath , I spect you can with 10 as well . 8.1 appears to multi task together with word correction , like my playbook . There again its probably all in the settings

Right I understand you now. I entirely agree. Here's one example I can think of the Settings app and Control Panel. Control Panel is legacy and Settings is modern, however it now means there's an awful inconsistency with Windows 10. Windows Update which you expect to see in Control Panel is gone, managing Settings such as region and even resolution is massively clunky and poorly designed in XAML. Windows 10 now has an inherent bad design employed. This simply wouldn't happen in OSX for example. Microsoft Edge is terrible, lack of settings/control and no password manager from a supposed class leading browser.
Microsoft don't understand when simplicity works and when it doesn't. It doesn't work in Microsoft Edge and it doesn't work having effectively two control panels and worst of all having a new control panel called Settings where functionality that should be easy to find such as changing resolution is hidden. Windows 10 is a triumph of yet more UI design failure and overall implementation. The amount of resources that Microsoft has, surely you'd think they'd employ someone who had a clue about such basic features. Douglas Englebart understood this 50+ years ago and still we don't have the level of integration in the systems that he designed. Windows 10 is unprofessional and shoddy in my opinion. - im not the only one it seems |
You need to look under the skin rather than at the eye candy to appreciate its benefits really.
The only thing I goto into settings for now is to check win updates, its 1 keyboard shortcut away and a click, most of the stuff in there once set can stay set. I agree it does seem a bit messy having it separated from the cpanel, but I understand why its done that way, as the settings is more akin to keeping the OS in line with mobile/tablet devices and how they use their settings. Changing resolution isn't hidden, its 1 right click from the desktop. Agree on Edge it is pants, but its in its infancy/the 1st version. Not sure why you are surprised when IE has always been cack, although improved speed wise in IE11. Anyway just use another browser, non issue really. |
My linx 10 appears to have died this morning , well it refuses to start anyway
probably coincidence |
Just realised that there was an updated build released sometime, what version are you guys all on? I'm stuck on 10240, but build 10586 (1511) is available, what have you got? Do a winver from start to see.
I got MS support to have a look at it and they couldn't fix the issue :/ i.e. Its not coming to me via Windows Update. |
I had this, the Windows update was stuck on 'Downloading'. I did the following and it fixed it for me:
|
Yea i did that, well MS did, I've fixed it now, i downloaded the updated media creation tool and i had to reinstall windows  It keeps all your settings though as per before, so i'm on the latest version now, thanks.
|
just updated to the 1511
thanks ( laptop, not tab) |

Yea true, my conclusion is that win update is cack ;) Everyone should get the latest build, as it has some decent tweaks and bug fixes. I think it depends on when you installed Win10 originally as to if you get 1511 via win updates. I did mine in July last year i think it was. Or if you are a Windows insider you would have got it as well.
|
I did both mine in August and i'm in the insider programme so for some reason the laptop gets the updates way before the desktop does so I agree with you on automatic updates, seems a bit of a lottery.
|
So erm well, i've got the nasty 30s after logging in to desktop delay  I've had it for ages but somehow didn't realise until i thought, wait i have an SSD it shouldn't take this long and i'm sure it didn't use to take this long.
Apparently reading the 10 forums etc, it's a common issue for a lot of people since the 1511 update back in, when was it? March. Anyway the "fix" for anyone suffering this is to disable autohide of the taskbar if you are autohiding it of course ;) then your bootup from login to desktop will return to 1-2s. Pretty fecking annoying, especially if you like to autohide the taskbar. |
