What is the spec of rods and pistons?

What turbo are you going for Dave?

Looking great and love the 14mm studs btw:thumb:

Standard EJ 257 Crank
ACL Race Bearings
Lateral/Crower Rods
Lateral/Wiseco Stroker Pistons

14mm studs

Usual Pennine 2.5 cdb build based on 2.0l cdb block with new liners, oil squiters, rear thrust conv (not quite the spec of yours/Jag's/Banny's though but am only looking at upper 400's :lol1:). Am running a 321V.

I'm planning on running a E85 or Meth mix pretty much full time once I've got the car set up for pump fuel first and weigh-up the pros/cons.

dave can i ask why you went down the route of re-linering a 2.0 and what swung your decision in that direction? iv got a 2.0 block but have decided i want a 2.5 now just now sure relinering is best as iv heard tales of them slipping??

As most people do I went round just about all the tuners out there looking at various options, I found they all had there own personal preference (each having advantages/disadvantages over the other). In the end I wanted the security of a cdb (just about everyone I spoke to said the semi-closed 2.5 block is limited to 450/450, obviously Duncan has been running his at much higher power for some time without issue). I also liked the idea of the 2.5 for the massive torque and help with turbo spool. Pennine came highly recommened for there 2.5 cdb builds which in my eyes is ideal for what I need (fast road, bit of track).

I'd also heard talk of liners slipping resulting in head gasket failure (re-skimming etc). I can't comment on this as I have no knowledge of this myself and haven't heard of anyone it has actually happened to but I haven't been in the 'scene' all that long.

wrighty338 02 November 2009 08:26 PM

cheers for that :) may keep my 2.0 block afterall. does the work cost a lot?

dave_garrett 02 November 2009 08:29 PM

Wrighty, have PM'ed you.

wrighty338 02 November 2009 08:33 PM

cheers Dave, pm'd back.

:Suspiciou ......

Nah mine will be a lil puddycat.....you may have seen it when you dropped off yours there m8. And 400 is bloody quick enough especially in a scoob with a lot of torque!! Pics look good and think you have some parts similar to mine.

utaka 04 November 2009 11:12 AM

Thought it was about time I finished this thread off (better late than never :lol1:). Car was finished/remapped in October however due to work commitments (and finishing off a house extension) didn't get chance to run the car last year much (only managed 500 miles before I put her in hibernation for the winter ).

Pictures of engine:

Have some better pics somewhere when I find them.

Also fitted a new lightweight batt (Odessey PC680), see old vs new. Made new cables up for the batt rather 'than splicing' the old ones to entend:

Wash bottle also stripped out (redundant intercooler water spray in boot pipe to feed wash jets), looks much tidier ;).

dave_garrett 20 April 2010 07:27 PM

Also added EGT and Fuel pressure (Defi's) over winter to a custom pod with two 60mm holes and 1 52mm hole for the air-fuel-ratio gauge:

To sum up:

The torque the car delivers is evil and the power delivery is so smooth and comes in so early its ridiculous. We were a bit short of the bhp I was aiming for, my fault for wanting to save money on headwork/cams at the time. Rather than carrying out any further work now I'm going to run the car at this power level as I always planned to go for a rotated set-up, cams etc later in the year ;). This also gives me the chance to see how some you you Guys get on with your builds and hopefully save myself a few £££'s with your learning/feedback (Jag/Peter/Daz/Fai to mention a few), you never know we might have 600bhp standard position turbo's by the end of summer with what we are seeing on the market now from clinic etc :lol1:.

Massive thanks to Mark at Lateral :notworthy for supplying me with quality parts, massive thanks to Pat :notworthy for mapping the car so beautilly (you wouldnt believe how smooth/early the power comes in and how hard it pulls).

Finnally massive thanks to Chy at Pennine for building me a mental engine. I really rate Chy very highly as a engineer/engine building/ machinist/designer/fabricator (sure Ive missed a few). I've been privaliged to see some of the builds hes currenly working on and have no doubt they are going to set a new standard for tuners (I'll say no more ;)). Needless to say Chy is building me a engine for my new classic and will be carrying out the future work I have planned on this car.

I started this project thread to share my learning (successes, failures and mistakes) and hope that some of the information in this thread helps people with there own builds. The thread might not contain in depth information on engine building etc but hopefully there is some usefull information in here.

Let me know if you need any "parts" for the build.... :D ;)

On a serious note, I'll second Daz's comments on stunning :thumb: Overall good thought process has gone into this build with some nice finishing touches such as water bottle, battery, fmic stealth mode look resulting in a very good power/torque figures. Look forward to the spin in it mate :thumb:
