Forget rally F1 and touring car is where its at cosworth cant be arsed with rallying as well not enough room in the trophey room for any more wins;)

OllyK 24 December 2003 02:26 PM

Didn't realise that "Cosworth" was spelt "Ferrari"

As for touring car - 2003 results AFAIK:

Vauxhall
Honda
MG
Proton

Yup Ford are right up there!

Clubscene 24 December 2003 03:01 PM

Hey FagAtley, Maybe Santa will bring you a Probe for Xmas........ Enjoy!!!! http://www.stopstart.freeserve.co.uk/smilie/hump.gif

cossie@ste 24 December 2003 03:15 PM

O.k because its chritsmas i will share a little part of the cosworth greatness with you but we wont cover touring cars and rallys or this will take about 10 pages up;) not all cosworth engines carry the cosworth name so people dont know that cosworth made them:D........please post subarus motorsport history i would like to read about it;)...not joking i would:)

1. Cosworth-powered F1 cars have already won 175 World Championship races. No other engine manufacturer comes close to this record.
5. The very first victory by a Cosworth-tuned Ford engine was in Jim Clark's Lotus 18 Formula Junior car, at Goodwood in March 1960
8. Cosworth's first-ever project was to build the jig for a Vanwall F1 cockpit bubble canopy.
14. The first race engine to be totally designed by Cosworth was the legendary DFV V8 F1 engine, which was completed in 1967. It won its first-ever race too - a good way to start a glittering career.
15. In only its second season, the Cosworth DFV V8 engine won no fewer than 11 World Championship F1 races.
20. Cosworth first designed a motorcycle engine - a 750cc parallel twin unit - for Norton Villiers in 1974.
23. How many other companies have designed engines which have won F1 World Championships, the Le Mans 24 Hour race, the World Rally Championship, and the Indianapolis 500 race ten occasions in succession ? Cosworth has.
25. Over the years, Cosworth has not only manufactured road-car engines or cylinder head assemblies for Ford, but for Lotus, Mercedes-Benz, Opel, Rolls-Royce Vauxhall and MG to name acouple
26. Cosworth developed the first road-car engine in the world which produced more than 100bhp/litre - the turbocharged YB unit of 1985, a 1,993cc engine which, in the Sierra RS Cosworth, produced 204bhp.
27. The world-famous 'Cosworth' name badge has only ever been applied to road cars manufactured by Ford. This exclusive arrangement is set to continue in the future.
28. At least one Cosworth racing engine has produced more than 1,000bhp - the final-specification turbocharged 1.5-litre V6 Type GB Formula 1 engine of 1987.
30. Road-car versions of the Ford Sierra RS500 Cosworth used 225bhp versions of the 2.0-litre YB power unit. In motor sport, however, race-tuned engines produced a reliable 550bhp but can be tunned to 800+bhp
32. Over the years, Cosworth has done more than design engines for motor cars. Other projects have included motor cycle engines, automatic transmissions - and development of the revolutionary casting technology which the company foundries use to this day.
35. Today Cosworth Racing manufactures engines for use in Formula 1, in CART/Champcar racing, in World Rallying, in NASCAR and in MotoGT motorcycle racing. No other company, anywhere in the world, does this.
36. In 2003, Cosworth Racing will supply V10 engines for 30 per cent of the F1 grid, This is much more than any other concern.
37. Cosworth engineers are very versatile. In 1993, when asked to race-tune the Ford-USA 2-litreV6 engine for use in racing Ford Mondeos, the team produced race-winning power units in less than six months.
38. Designed by Cosworth in the mid-1990s, the V12 engine fitted to the Aston Martin Vanquish is currently the most powerful British engine fitted to a British car.
40. Almost 30 different F1 teams have used Cosworth engines since the company entered the sport 36 years ago.
41. Cosworth Racing's experience, and high technology equipment, now allows a new F1 engine to be race-ready in only 9 - 10 months after design work begins.
42. Cosworth Racing engine designs are found in many different cars. One of the most unexpected is the 4-litre single-OHC Ford Type JBB V6, which is used in the Ford-USA Explorer 4x4.
44. When the first Ford-Cosworth F1 engine, the DFV, was launched in 1967, it peaked at 9,000rpm. In 2003, the latest Ford 3-litre V10 F1 engine achieves twice that figure.

Cant be arsed doing anymore because if we move onto touring cars and rally engines we will be here all day :)

jaf01uk 24 December 2003 04:48 PM

Is it true that they are now owned by audi? and if so are Audi going to allow Ford to use the cosworth name if the focus does ever get built?
PS. this is a serious question :D

cossie@ste 24 December 2003 05:06 PM

Ford still owns the motorsport side and the right to use the cosworth name on road cars, they spilt the company into two but most of the best race engines in the world cosworth will have had a hand in it somewhere along the line:) think they make some skyline parts and dont high power scoobs use cosworth pistons?

BlackR 24 December 2003 06:27 PM

Just spotted this on the Auto Express website:

Subaru Impreza Turbo/WRX

The closest thing to a road-going rally car since the legendary Ford Escort Cosworth and Lancia Delta Integrale, the Impreza is a modern classic. Enthusiasts adore its incredible grip, power and steering...

Sounds good to me :)

Devils Advocate 24 December 2003 08:02 PM

Cosworth prostitutes its name to the highest bidder or whomever wants to invest in it at the time.

Trying to cling onto the Cosworth name by a ford devotee is like Mercedes trying to claim that the engine in the Maclaren F1 cars are mercedes, when clearly we all know it is an Ilmor engine funded by Mercedes

JBONDO1 24 December 2003 08:56 PM

Just butting in Ive got a 92 Evo and the cars got better body work than the impreza turbo I had before it and that was 4 years newer. So no rust on my 11 year old integrale!!!!!!!!!!!

Clubscene 24 December 2003 09:00 PM

I thought the Maclaren F1 was powered by BMW.

talbotsteve 24 December 2003 09:11 PM

jbond01,l think you'll find about 3" of paint between your rust and the fresh air on your lancia,l know because its never out of the body shop allways getting something bodged up on it,lancia boy dont forget the first full season by subaru demolished the last official entry of a lancia delta in 93'(carlos sainz and jolly club, not works entry but neither was 92')......and subarus entry was the legacy........having said that l'd swap my car for yours anyday
........lf any of the above is incorrect or a blatant lie sue me,l haven't got any money anyway..........

Sith 24 December 2003 09:42 PM

Clubscene - Williams is powered? :D by BMW. Mclaren uses the Merc funded engine.

Clubscene 25 December 2003 01:58 AM

Woops. I was thinking of the Mclaren F1 Supercar!

stu8v 25 December 2003 11:32 AM

the grale was only a works car up to 1991 then it went private first with MARTINI RACING in 1992 then with REPSOL (jolly club) in 1993 so in effect they run it with little/no develpoment for 2 years.
therefore its results wernt too bad considering, face it what did they have too prove they had already won 6 consecutive titles a feat that will no doubt never be achieved again.

dont also forget the cars where more production based not like the world rally car types.
even grp n use racing gearboxes these days.

bring back grp a and a miniumum 5000 homologation rule where would any of us be without it, its only a matter of time/finance before they stop making cars like ours.

Scooby-road-king-warrior 27 December 2003 09:56 PM

Hi fellow Scoobsters

My Subaru is the best car I have owned.
Before I bought my turbo road king i had a Maestro van.
The van was better looking and handled better but the Scooby is SO much faster in a straight line.
Clarkson does have a point though, the Subaru is a crock of crap, really, come on, lets not kid ourselves. We only bought one because everyone else had one. Just like the Ford drivers.
Big horsey Cossie drivers are nearly as bad, they are the old version of us. Strutting around in their smelly old binbags. One day they may be cool but it will take a lot longer for our cars to be cool as they are crap and there's heaps of them everywhere- what Pop idol is for music, scoobs are to cars.
Dont take heart though, Clarkson has no taste and doesn't drive particularly well, he is mearly a presenter albeit in this instance he is correct.
As for the integrale drivers, well all I can say is they are people who think they are the dogs b***ox just cause they have a good looking, rare car which makes you smile when you see one and feel like Eddie Irvine when driving one. Left hand drive losers.

Much love and happy New Year to fellow Scoobsters. One day we will be cool......

cossie@ste 28 December 2003 12:13 AM

Cossie@ste, you truly haven't the brain power to light a one-watt bulb, have you? Can you not recognise a great big hint when someone smacks you over the head with it? Just for you, scooby-road-king-warrior drives- and, you understand, I'm taking a wild guess here- an Integrale. And If he doesn't, then he wishes he did. Can't you spot irony or sarcasm without a winking emoticon tacked on the end of it?

plater 28 December 2003 01:18 PM

I Don't know what's sadder, the bullsh*t thats been posted in this thread or the fact that i've wasted the last 15 minutes reading through it.....In the real world no one gives a toss whether the scoob is a crock or a classic or whether cossies and integrales are better, with kids starving the world over and people being robbed, raped and murdered as we speak can't you find something more constructive to discuss. Read the papers this morning little girl , two years old loses her legs after doctors fail to diagnose an infection that nearly killed her, now thats an issue, thats worth discussing and do you think that she or her family or her families friends and neighbours give a flying f**k about what top gear says about some crap jap plastic road missile.....No , exactly , so wise up......Rant over.....Now pass me another beer!
