You should be able to smash the 500 I would think. You've got some nice parts and overall build looks good.

Welcome to the Syvecs club! :thumb:

Yes mate its nice to see it all finally coming together, and the parts bin that has been huge for such a long time gradually get smaller as parts get fitted. Most satisfying is that its different to the normal stuff i build.

Lol, who knows Matt, maybe someone might offer me a job as an engine builder? A motorsport team would be nice :)

What is it that you've done to the Mocal take off ?

I haven't had to modify the take off, just the fixing bolt/tube to suit it.
I'm doing away with the stock oil/water modine and just running the Mocal.
The fixing is too long and too narrow for the Mocal. So it has been shortened, had the thread cut further down the shank and had a sleeve turned and tig welded on so now it fits the Mocal like an OEM part.

Pretty easy to do and now it fits perfect.

ScoobyDoo69 23 August 2010 03:26 PM

O right. So I take it this now sits closer to the block without the oil/water modine ? I always feel like my oil cooler plate makes my oil filter sit too low down. Scared of hitting something one day and getting it ripped off!

Yes mate,

Check out the take off fitted in the last pic. You can see how close it mounts to the block now. Its only on there loose at the moment as i dont know where i'll want the pipes to come out till the exhaust manifold is on. But it fits really nice, so im quite pleased with it.

Know what you mean about money. I need to find a better paying and more enjoyable job. I've got the scoob bug back after actually using mine. I've done about 100 miles this month. :lol1: Now I want new management so I can have a proper exhaust system and better cooling. There's a few bits to go on but being a 97 I can't really do anything unless I change the management. :(

Perhaps I shouldn't have knocked the detailing on the head.

frayz 24 August 2010 01:00 PM

Nothing much to report today guys. Ive checked all the camshaft turnover torques and endfloats and done the tappet clearances. Now i need to order some new buckets to get the required spec.
So while thats been going on ive been sorting parts to go to the powdercoaters. Think im going to try and stick with the wrinkle red manifold for an OEM look and go for gloss black/bright silver for everything else.
Cam covers will be piano black i think.

frayz 24 August 2010 05:19 PM

Guys,

Wondering if any of you have any sti 8 graded tappet buckets you would be willing to sell me or swap what i have?

Due to new valves i require new shims, but there is nothing wrong with and no wear on the ones i have.

I require the following sizes:

450
457
466
467
470
471
472
474
481 (x2)
483
484

These are what i have to trade if need be:

491 (x2)
492
494
496 (x2)
501
502
503
505
509 (x2)

Thanks

Frayz

Hi mate, yes neil is hopefully doing it in the next couple of weeks, i was going to get the rcm kit but i thought i'd try neil as i liked the look of his work on the website, but it was also the fact i saw cupcake and you had gone to him over on 22b.com

I have a built 2.15, wiseco pistons, new 2.5 crank, lateral rods, acl race bearings, arp head studs, api oil pump etc
Using mildy ported sti5 heads but standard sti valves and cams for the min.
GT30r .82 all in a type r shell.

It wont be as insane as yours but it will be good :thumb:

Frayz can you not machine yours down, so that they are useable.

frayz 24 August 2010 07:39 PM

Wanted to use the machining as a last resort to be honest mate.
I wanted to try a source as many as I could beforehand.
Si2000, that will be balistic in a type R shell mate.

Best of luck with your build, are you building it yourself too?
