Warning

The Russian Sputnik has been seen tumbling down in low orbit.

Reports are, its going crash on the German French border, causing untold mayhem.

The Eu said it wasn't going to allow the Russians to crash there, wanting Europe wide catastrophe, they're issuing a ban on Russian gas and oil.

So there :p

Grab 2.7million random people and I bet you will find a number will have underlying issues that would cause a thrombosis.

The underlying cases of this type of Thrombosis are around 3 cases per million per year and around 70% of cases are female! So in 2.7 million people you might expect 9 cases per year. We're 1/4 of the way into the year, so lets be generous as say 3 cases could be attributed to natural occurrences, that leaves us with 28 excess cases in just 3 months of the vaccine use.

We should also state that all 31 cases have been in under 65's yet many of the 2.7 million people who have received the AZ vaccine are over 65's. As the vaccine roll out continues and more and more younger people will be vaccinated, then the occurrences are likely to increase.

The UK press is somewhat misreporting the news today that Germany has stopped the use of the AZ vaccine in the under 60's. Firstly, this isn't a national policy, but each state in Germany has set its own rules. Here in Baden-Wuerttemburg, the AZ vaccine can continue to be administered to all over 60's, people under 60 can still receive the AZ vaccine following consultation with a doctor who will asses the personal risk in each case. At the moment, anyone under 70 receiving a vaccine must be in a risk group, the vast majority of which need to seek permission from their doctor to get the authorisation anyway.

The EU is currently vaccinating around 1.5 Million per day and have a total stockpile of unused vaccines of about 10-15 million doses - so around 7-10 days stock! Source here and here!
Keep peddling your fake anti EU propaganda and I'll keep dismissing it :thumb:

EU vaccine usage is currently 68% Pfeizer, 24% AZ and 8% Moderna.

Had an interesting discussion with some colleagues earlier about the third wave currently striking Germany - bear in mind this is not fact but rather a bunch of engineers theorising during the coffee (tea) break!

For quite some time now, Germany has been stockpiling Corona rapid test kits. Around three weeks ago there was new policy announced in Germany that everyone would be entitled to a free corona rapid test per week with the general idea that lockdown can be eased if people get tested before say, going on a shopping trip, or a night out on the town etc. Since then, there have been rapid test centers opening up all over the place, there were two opened in my town immediately and now there is pretty much one in every village and over the next few weeks there *will* be one in every village.

Since those test centers opened and people have started getting regular weekly tests, the number of positive tests has been increases at a similar rate to the increased test capacity. The theory of my colleagues was that there may not actually be a third wave in Germany, but rather an increase in the amount of testing of people without symptoms - as they call it here, the "Dunkle ziffern" (dark numbers), the number of people who have had the virus but go undetected are now being detected.

Around the same time (3 or so weeks ago), the City of Tübingen started an experiment of mass testing and fully opening the city to normal activity. Anyone with a negative test from the same day could go shopping, eat in restaurants, visit bars and other cultural activities like theater and concerts etc. As people started returning to normal life they saw a massive spike in positive results as virtually everyone was getting tested on an almost daily bases. Over the last week or so, the number of cases has been falling rapidly as the quarantining of symptom free cases is starting to take effect! This week my town announced they will also be implementing the Tübingen policy as they gear up for the tourist season at Lake Constance.

There may or may not be a third wave underway in Germany, and vaccinations may be going slower than desired, but with the new mass testing policy its looking quite positive for life here to start returning to normal.

So, now 30 cases of blood clots associated with AZ vaccines in UK with 7 dead. UK medical agency now looking into the possible link!

Who could have possibly predicted that the number of cases of a rare blood clot affecting only younger people vaccinated with AZ would rapidly increase as you start to vaccinate more young people.

I wouldn't be surprised if the UK soon restricts the use of AZ vaccine, at least for women under 60 who take the contraceptive pill, who seem to be the most affected by blood clots.

ALi-B 03 April 2021 04:28 PM

I think there needs to be greater research into this before saying AZ = bad. Including the injection methodology, location, as well as the carrier agents, needles, vials etc. As well as the patients themselves (heath/habits both current and historic as well as hereditary issues).

For example, Influenza vaccines have been linked to DVTs in people under 50....BUT most of those affected have a history of smoking!

Home tests just abut as crazy ineffcetive waste cash as tack n trace and trusting folk to qauratine at home :cuckoo:

stevebt 05 April 2021 09:44 AM

Pointless having home tests as people won't use them, if you have symptoms I guess you will get tested but if you have no symptoms your not going to chance a positive test and be forced to self isolate with no income for two weeks. I don't know anyone with any of the Bluetooth phone features for track and trace switched on for the exact same reason.

According to polls most of the UK public is in favour of vaccine passports.

Meanwhile, the BBC Front page and backbench rabble bleat about how it removes our freedoms and liberties, creating a divisive and discriminatory culture....Just WTF was the last 12months then??? The pinnacle of freedom, liberty and non-divisive culture that had zero discrimination?

I'm guessing they want more of the last 12months forced upon us. Because that's the only alternative.

Mr Fuji 06 April 2021 11:15 AM

I'm not sure why people are so against this, why is it so different to having to wear a seat belt, or having to have car insurance? Bars and clubs already can have rules for entry and have door staff to enforce them, what's the difference? I do accept that for the conspiritards it will be a negative thing, they will simply tout it as the government forcing us to take a vaccine they will use to [insert moronic unsubstantiated reason here], but public health outweighs these concerns, IMO.

They could have exemptions for people who genuinely cannot have the vaccine.

IdonthaveaScooby 07 April 2021 01:06 PM

So we’ve 100m extra doses AZ , but we still need Moderna .......:Suspiciou

A bit like varieties of antibiotics, some are better suited to dealing with variant types.

Better to have, than not-see eu

UK will no longer issue AZ vaccine to under 30s due to blood clotting risk!

ho'd have thought, the EU wasn't making it all up to punish the UK for Brexit after all! :Whatever_

BMWhere? 07 April 2021 03:45 PM

Now 79 cases of blood clots in UK, was only 31 a week ago. Seems as more and more younger people are vaccinated, the number of blood clots is increasing. Todays decision puts the balance of risk from Covid vs the risk of a blood clot at the arbitrary age of 30!

andy97 07 April 2021 04:45 PM

Still 0.003-0.007% Hardly worth mentioning. Statistics.

Chances of dying from driving 0.014% Significantly more dangerous

But still a very, very slim chance of it occurring

Dont do the ironing, horse riding, take your pick of daily activities which are more common causes of death than thrombosis from vaccines

IdonthaveaScooby 07 April 2021 06:37 PM

Cant find a source for ironing fatalities , horse riding however not really an everyday activity for most

There are not enough young people vaccinated yet to have accurate statistics. The overwhelming majority of vaccinations are to offer 50's while the overwhelming majority of blood clots are under 50's.

Regardless of how low or high the risk is, when the vaccine carries a greater risk than the disease you're going to hedge your bets on the disease!

andy97 07 April 2021 09:17 PM

There is a greater benefit to rapidly continuing the vaccine rollout. Mutation which could kill hundreds of thousands more.

To quote Spock ' The need of the many outweigh the need of the few'

Sure offer different vaccines, if they're available, but keep going

The Joshua Tree 08 April 2021 08:38 AM

So what's the score with the AstraZeneca vaccine, is it safe or isn't it as their seems to be increasing numbers getting blood clots in all age groups, yeh i get it that ithe people that have had blood clots a fraction of the people that have been vaccinated but it's still Russian Roulette as those numbers seem to be increasing.

I absolutely agree that we need to keep going with the vaccines and get as many people vaccinated as possible. That will only happen in people have confidence in the vaccines they are given and the vaccines are effective at halting the spread of the disease.

Sadly, the AZ vaccine is a bit of a flop and the UK has heavily backed the wrong horse. The efficacy of the AZ vaccine is considerably worse than the others available and is ineffective against the Brazilian and South African strains. Given the UKs dependency on the AZ vaccine, if either of those strains take hold in the UK, then its virtually back to square one! Add to that the risks of blood clots which is only likely to get worse with time as more young people are vaccinated.

I'm not saying they shouldn't keep using the AZ, but its probably not the vaccine you want to rely on. The most effective policy to guard against all strains would be to have a varied mix of vaccines so you don't become overly dependent on a single supplier. The UK bet heavily on the AZ vaccine over others and as a result has so far received only relatively few Pfeizer vaccines and in only just starting to use the Moderna vaccine. The overwhelming majority in the UK have been vaccinated with AZ as supply issues with Pfeizer and Moderna have impacted and the UK anyway ordered way more AZ vaccines than the others and has not had the same supply issues. The EU ordered the same amount of Pfeizer and AZ vaccines as well as large quantities of Moderna and J&J. Because AZ/UK prioritised supply to the UK while undoubtedly Pfeizer and Moderna have prioritised supplies to the EU over the UK, the EU has somewhat lucked into a situation where the predominant supply of Pfeizer ~70% against ~20% AZ and ~10% Moderna means the EU will have a more robust defense against variants compared to the UK.

The UK would be be sensible to reduce the AZ vaccine and bump up the supply of the other vaccines in order to get a better protection against the variants.
