Coming together real nice now Jon ;) great work again :thumb:

A psi3 is on the shopping list for me next, have you a scan gauge aswell? Trying to source one but not read any feedback on them

Martin

JonMc 23 May 2013 12:39 PM

I haven't got a scan gauge but I do have a second PSI3, although the spare I've bought with a view to repairing it:wonder:

dunks 23 May 2013 01:38 PM

Just read this thread from start to finish. It's a real credit to you and coming on really well.
You can do mine when it's finished .

My mrs would be up for that as I'm threatening to get a kit car once this is finished - at least someone elses car would satisfy my hunger to tinker whilst not costing me money:norty:

Hmmm you let me know when it's fixed Jon lol. Great work so far mate

Martin

JonMc 23 May 2013 03:43 PM

There's a waiting list mate:wonder:

Let me find time to fix it first:thumb:

mantazini 24 May 2013 03:12 AM

Looking good Jon,where did you get the clamps from?

From SFS Performance mate (http://www.siliconhose.com/content.a...&catalog=MS503), not cheap but these are about the same price Maggy paid so it seems to be about the going rate. The postage is steep if you are buying one or two, but I bought 16 and a length of hose so it worked out okay. Remember to add VAT on all those prices:eek:

JonMc 24 May 2013 01:19 PM

The weather was piss poor, but as I'd taken some time off to do some bit I was not to be deterred. Time for the Eclipse inlet hose - I remain impressed by the quality of the hoses but not by the fit, at least with them being red the blood from my knuckles isn't as obvious:eek:

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v5...ps516aed6d.jpg

Threw on the new K&N filter too:norty:

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v5...ps9df08322.jpg

And also deleted the purge valve:D

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v5...ps58a2342f.jpg

Not much blue hose left - brake vacuum, but rather than cut the one-way valve out I know someone who has a blue hose kit without this bit so I'll cut the valve out of his old black rubber hose; then the breather hoses when I decide on where to fit the catch can:D

Also fitted my modded and powder coated alternator bracket, but now I want a cleaner alternator, so no pics:(, and refilled the coolant system.

The other bit of good news is that SFS are going to replace the Murray Clamp that wouldn't tighten up:notworthy

only down side is one of the Murray clamps decided to stretch the threaded band and wouldn't tighten up (1 of 16:wonder:), but the rest went on fine. For now I've fitted a normal jubliee clip but with the v-band insert of the Murray clamp...

Catch can and induction kit next...

I've got the can and red hose, the maf housing for the maf pipe needs to be plastidipped so should get that done this week, but the induction kit is huge. Need to work out how to fit that for now as I'm not going to fit the silicon inlet until I swap the turbo - want to get the MOT done first.

Strut brace fitted too:thumb:

Jon what did you do with blue hoses and the filter you didt use :norty:

Martin

Mortster 30 May 2013 01:04 PM

What's deleting the purge valve do? And what does it do anyway? :wonder:

Looking good as always.

lordharding 30 May 2013 11:41 PM

Looking good as always
NBO 11 will be very competitive this year with under bonnet mods
It's the next big thing :D

The old RCM filter was sold, but the hoses are all sat in my garage waiting sorting out along with a stack of other bits. Mantas has already asked for the 2 coolant hoses that come from the header tank to the rad/overflow:wonder:

TBH, not quite sure, but it's one less thing looking untidy under bonnet, it's something to do with clearing fuel vapours in the inlet:wonder:

Bought a fmic off Fud which has red hoses so if they fit I'd take em off your hands Jon. Don't need coolant just the fmic as I'm already blue under the bonnet. Just need to source a inner wing filter

JonMc 31 May 2013 10:18 AM

If they're 63mm let me know and I'll sort them out - it'll be a week or so as I'm tied up at the moment, hence no updates:(

Cheers Jon that'd be great mate and no hurry think it'll be at least a week until I get from Fud.

Pick your brains though mate, fuds set up is rotated before I drop him a pm do you think the pipe work will be too short for mine or would it just be a case of running the pipe work differently? Bit confused lol

Martin

JonMc 31 May 2013 05:56 PM

I'll sort them out and let you know:thumb:

The pipework to the throttle body will almost certainly not fit, whether or not it can be adapted is another question as I expect it will be shorter as that os one of the key reasons for rotating the inlet. You could get some universal bends from somewhere like http://www.apmotorstore.co.uk/ and make them work:wonder:

You never know, Fud may have the original pipework or you could always rotate your inlet:norty:

Got a little bit more done today, little being the key word as I am not feeling to hot and the rain came:(

I now have an electrical connection from the boot to the bonnet...

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v5...ps0e9f83a8.jpg

The 2 spare tags will be used to connect the starter and the fuse box. I'll run 4AWG to the starter but I may try and get some decent 8AWG cable for the fusebox:wonder:

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v5...ps6039d9ae.jpg

I'm thinking about getting someone to whip the engine out later this year and cleaning, smoothing and painting the engine bay - I'm considering something a bit different, not white but maybe a light metallic grey:norty:

MrNoisy 12 June 2013 12:33 PM

Enjoying the read Jon, you've dedicated a whole heap of time to this one :)

Firez34 12 June 2013 12:56 PM

Great read so far Jon love all the DIY that you do. I must start my thread, have done loads and have the pic's(hundreds) I think that's what put's me off every time I'm ready to start it. Keep up the good work fella.

JonMc 12 June 2013 10:16 PM

Cheers guys, more to follow this weekend all being well.

Today I got the ring connector I needed to finish connecting the fusebox to the power distribution. Need to sort the grounding and replacement for the battery earth to the block and also get some painting done -plastidip is ready, including some read for all the underbonnet caps and I've got some etch primer so I can give the FMIC core a dusting or satin black:norty:

JonMc 14 June 2013 07:15 PM

Day off today and some more progress, got the spray gun out:norty:

Top pod now plastidipped:D

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v5...ps7cb24e23.jpg

Along with the A-pillars, and the new washer bottle bracket (although I may strip that and get it powder coated:wonder:)

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v5...psefd03158.jpg

The MAF housing...

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v5...psd63b112b.jpg

And the fuse box cover...

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v5...psb6664ff3.jpg

You can also see the earthing box above and I made the final connection to the battery today and all works although I can try and start the car until the MAF housing is dry and the new DV arrives:thumb:

Next job is to give the FMIC core a dusting of etch primer and satin black:norty:

M2RTXhawkeye 14 June 2013 10:56 PM

Great work again Jon as per usual :thumb: looking forward to the up date on the fmic will make my mind up on what to do with mine :D

Looks great Jon, the pods came out really nice :thumb:

v5 man 16 June 2013 09:27 PM

Loving the work you're putting into this Jon.
Out of interest, do you remember how much it costs to powder coat the FMIC pipework? (PM me if you want).
I just think the pipes look superb in black with either red or blue hoses :D

JonMc 16 June 2013 09:35 PM

Cheers mate:thumb:

Got a coat of etch primer on the FMIC core today, satin black to go on this week:thumb:

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v5...ps5e4a3578.jpg
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v5...ps43403c58.jpg

Jobs left to do before the MOT:
  • Rewire horn (hidden wiring)
  • Rewire HID ballasts (hidden wiring again)
  • Fit Forge DV
  • Refit lights, grill, bumper and FMIC core
  • Check fluid levels
  • Reconnect battery live
  • Start car:D
Plan is to MOT it at the end of the month ready for the Uxbridge show and after that fit the bonnet vent, VF34, pinks, new part smoothed inlet and painted rockers. Will also get some more brackets powder coated and getting an alternator cleaned up with an alloy pulley fitted - hopefully find someone local who is doing Carberry Rom maps so I can go mafless and add ALS/LC and twin maps:norty:

V5 Man - I'll drop you a PM:thumb:

M2RTXhawkeye 16 June 2013 10:39 PM

Looks great Jon and mine is defo being done like yours lol. Question for you the dv does it have to vent to atmosphere or can it be made to recirc? Can't be doing with the noise lol
