Good work mate :)
Couldn't get out of the house today as busy with family staying over. What time you off on Sunday as I'm going to work on Sunday morning, if your still around let me know I'l pop around. Need to borrow that Torx T50 tool as well.

JonMc 15 January 2011 06:14 PM

Not leaving until after dinner, so probably 7-ish:thumb:

JonMc 22 January 2011 10:15 AM

Just added another 12-months ticket to it today - needs some front pads, but I was hoping to drag them out until I had the money for the k-sports - looks like time for some cheap mintex pads to see me though for a couple of months - and just take it easy:(

M444GY 22 January 2011 06:15 PM

looks like you are making progress jon :thumb:

JonMc 22 January 2011 06:21 PM

You'll see it tomorrow - given it a good clean with a scouring pad:D

JonMc 30 January 2011 04:51 PM

Despoilered and the whole car (except slams and behind rubbers, lights etc) has been flatted ahead of the respray - the matt finish is really growing on me though:norty:

No mate, whilst I agree it would look good in a quality satin finish, I would like that nice deep shine you keep promising - something to do with your special lacquer all over it:norty:

I'll be scotch-briting the wheels soon too, when I get around to swapping the front pads probably, and I'll touch up the kerb marks:wonder:

Believe me when i say you will need sun glasses on when she's done:cool:
How bad are the kerb marks mate?

Negligible, a tiny skim with some chemical metal and it'll be right as rain. I need to smooth back properly the rear wheel were I repaired it last year too, just to make it smoother when they're painted:D

I might have to invest in some new Raybans then - mirrored avaitors:freak3:

LOL,wouldn't be a bad idea as you want to try and look as good as the car when done:D
Sounds like it is going well with it at the moment,how did the bumper go after have you finished up on that now?

JonMc 30 January 2011 06:24 PM

I used a bit of chemical metal were the tiger seal had sagged and it doesn't seem to have reacted like the normal filler. The vents are really fiddly but a lot of the slightly rougher areas won't be visible. I do need to whip the front bumper off and sink some captive threads in for my red anodised bolts that will be used on the vents, and mesh the intercooler opening. I also need to do something with the wing mirror base plates, again probably smooth the mirror bases into the subaru adaptors. The base plates and arms will all go stain black as will the front splitter:D

Some of the black trim is looking a bit tired to, so I'll need to consider some matt vinyl wrap for the roof strips, b-pillars and maybe the black strip that runs over the doors:wonder:

darms 31 January 2011 01:21 PM

have to say mate....... you really do put the hours in :thumb:

Love the matt look ;)......

JonMc 05 February 2011 07:57 PM

I've just ordered some bits from the states:

Carbon S202 style spoiler
Carbon screen top spoiler - small lip style
Carbon rear bumper exhaust trim

All from Kakumei US.

I need to get some trim bits too, the drivers side roof strip and rear passenger window/door strip are damaged and need replacing. Once I have them, the roof strips, black trim that is on the top off the door openings and the b-pillar posts will all be getting trimmed in either black satin vinyl or carbon vinyl - just need to decide on the final colour scheme.

birchy2010 05 February 2011 08:15 PM

I have to say. I love your car.

JonMc 05 February 2011 08:19 PM

Cheers bud, I'll like it a lot more when it's finished:D

martin850 05 February 2011 08:34 PM

More goodies Jon at this rate you will never get your re-spray ;)

JonMc 05 February 2011 08:36 PM

Tell me about it, forking out for a holiday and new furniture too doesn't help:(

JonMc 10 February 2011 07:15 PM

Got a couple of parcels today, I now have:

CDF ALK to fit;
CDF Pitch mount to fit;
Kakumei Roof lip spoiler in carbon to bond on - more subtle than the STI wing;
Kakumei carbon rear bumper exhaust trim to fit;

And the Pièce de résistance....

A Carbon S202 style spoiler from Kakumei:D

The quality is outstanding, delivery in 4 working days from states, proper lightweight and all of the carbon stuff delivered from the states was a 1/3 of the cost of a genuine S202 spoiler, but TBH it isn't that much different - just fixed end plates from what I can tell:thumb:

martin850 10 February 2011 08:05 PM

Can't wait to see your car finished almost as much as you mate. I am tempted to get a couple of bits from kakumai myself. :thumb:

JonMc 10 February 2011 08:22 PM

Me too mate:wonder:

JonMc 11 February 2011 03:52 PM

New spoiler fitted:D

Couple of issues with it. It doesn't use the same factory holes as the WRX spoiler, there was 2 holes under the WRX spoiler with a bung in that it did use. I had to open up the second skin underneath. The base that covers the feet doesn't have the best sticky pads so when the car is finished I'll sikaflex that on. Finally, 2 of the original holes from the WRX spoiler are not covered by the base so I need to get them welded:(

P1 NUT 11 February 2011 04:32 PM

Where did you get the spoiler?

Looks great Jon, have you test fitted the exhaust trim at all as I was thinking if getting one but wasn't sure how good the fit would be?

JonMc 11 February 2011 09:15 PM

I haven't mate, spoiler and the school run, could try it tomorrow and get some holes drilled:thumb:

martin850 11 February 2011 09:52 PM

I will wait with baited breath for the pics ;)

the bear1986 08 March 2011 09:38 PM

How's the build coming along mate?

JonMc 08 March 2011 09:45 PM

It's stalled, I've just got back from Libya and I'm off away to another part of North Africa tomorrow so no time to get much done.

I have fibre-glassed the additional holes left with the new spoiler, but I do need to sand and fill the boot to get it smooth.

Also need to fit new pads, do a service on the car, fit the ALK, get the RA rear screen fitted and get the quote for the respray finalised and a date booked. Got loads of other bits planned for under the bonnet such as paint I/C pipework, change the header tank etc:norty:
