i have an 02sti rear diff and shafts spare if anyone is looking for them

silverwrxnor 01 November 2011 07:05 PM

Im planning a swap from 2001 WRX EDM to 2005 WRX STi 6MT box with 180 rear diff.

Found rear driveaxles to fit 180 diff to 2001 hubs at
DSS (Drive Shaft Shop) in USA http://www.driveshaftshop.com/, but they cost about 1800 USD. Is there any more reasonable priced solutions without changing the rear end?

Front diff i planned using automatic plines with my wrx ones.

Guys I'm fitting the box on Thurs and just wanted to check on something...

Do I need one of these?

6 speed sensor cable???

Alex, your gearbox should plug straight into your loom, as Matt's wagon was an Sti6 wagon. You shouldnt need to change any of the loom.

Steven
(who sent your box on matt's behalf)

Thank you for letting me know Steven... I was just worried if I got all the major conversion work done and got stumped at the last hurdle coz of a little plug ;)

Ok good news then cant wait til Thurs :D

Thanks again for sending the gearbox etc so fast :thumb:

Been at it since 9am and just stopped now. Managed to swap the rear diff over and remove the 5 speed box and clutch.

I need to get pics up of my clutch you'll be shocked... I'm not being funny but its been on the car about 3mths and done about 2000 road miles (rated to 400+bhp)... you wanna see the state of it fcukin hell its mullered! Looks like its done 100,000 miles and non stop track days!

My advice to anyone lookin to buy a Competion Clutch is keep well clear of them, they're cak! I'm sending it back and getting my money back!

ive got a CC clutch in mine, depending on model alex i guess. ive got the top of the range 5 speed one for now. also was recommended by david @ API
We have been supplying and fitting Comp Clutches for over 18 months now and never yet had a problem with one.

We even had a friction disc on its own from Mike at Comp Clutch, free of charge to ' try ' as it had been rejected by another tuner as juddery. It went in one of our cars and was perfect, no judder, no smell.

They can be a bit ' prompt ' until bedded in, but once done are very strong,

Danny Clarke has one of their Ceremetallic single plate paddle clutches in his drag car making 654 hp and running 10.9 seconds. That's and advert of quality all on its own.

I have no problem in recommending them as good value.

Did you fit a new or refaced flywheel when you fitted the Comp Clutch ? They are a fair enough company and if you have a problem they will examine it and I am sure if there is a fault they'll look after you.

But, if it was built onto anything but a new or refaced flywheel, I suspect your claim will be compromised.

You have to give them a fighting chance to bed in and if they don't ANY clutch will wear excessively.

David

alex_00s 11 November 2011 02:39 PM

I fitted a new flywheel at the time I fitted the clutch and I bedded it in for about 500miles.

The release barring is also faulty and when I get a chance I'll put pics up so you can see just how mullered the friction plate is.

I'm a very reasonalbe person so I'm sure this will all get sorted out amicably. I'll get my money back as the wear is not right. Any1 that knows me will be able to back me up on the fact its only road use and no track time.

Not had a chance to upload photo's yet or even contact Competition Clutch... but I've decided to go with what I know and previously loved (in my 200sx).

Exedy Paddle Clutch

alex_00s 28 November 2011 01:47 PM

This is a Stage 4/5 Competition Clutch, fitted 2-3mths ago and only done ~2000 road miles. 500 of which were used to bed it in. My car is not running more than 350lbs and this clutch is rated at over 400...

And my 2-3mth old lightened flywheel is now banana shaped and good for the bin!

Not a happy camper!

Rob Day 28 November 2011 02:23 PM

Jesus that looks trashed!

alex_00s 28 November 2011 02:49 PM

From day 1 it juddered terribly, but after a few hundred miles of bedding in the juddering got slightly less.
I fitted the exact same clutch to my bro's car and it also juddered...

But man alive is that normal wear for a couple thousand road miles??? I dont care what anyone says about Competition Clutch... personally given the choise of any clutch... never again!

You cant argue with the facts and those photo's tell a very sad story indeed :(

Update:

Just thought I'd mention that the car is back 2gether again, the 6 speed is fitted and running beautifully. I'm loving the ratios of this UK box over my old JDM 5 speed.

I also fitted a brand new Fidanza flywheel and an Exedy 4 puk paddle clutch. There is no difference in the feel over the OEM clutch, I was expecting a bit more fight in it... happy all round :D

A big thank you to ALL the guys on here that helped me with their advice and opinions. I couldnt have done it without you and without sounding like to much of an arse-lick... thank you very much, I appreciate your input massively :notworthy

every1sgottablue1 01 January 2012 05:07 PM

when you coming round to take me for a spin then?? ;)

alex_00s 05 January 2012 09:31 PM

once the clutch is bedded in and I get a remap ;)
