Seems very limited to me. I'm out.

Why would you want HDMI ???

Lightest netbook is the sony at 1.5lbs, all the rest are over 2-3 lbs so the ipad is definately the lightest

16GB/32GB is more than ample for a tablet

apart from that, agree on the rest
The multitasking or lack of is a pain as is the lack of flash

Dedrater 30 January 2010 04:46 PM

HDMI would be useful, download a HD film from Itunes so whole family can watch and/or turn TV into giant web browser and use Ipad as touch screen keyboard. As it is not widescreen, most films are going to look garbage in 4:3.

I just don't understand why anyone would buy an Ipad, say over a Samsung NC10, which is infinitely more usable and several hundred pounds cheaper.

J4CKO 30 January 2010 05:43 PM

Just thinking, they aren't compulsary, if you want one, buy one and you don't need to justify it, sometimes you just want one and if you don't want one, don't buy one.

I think Apple stuff tends to appeal to the trendy and easily led, its nice to use by and large and it offends the geeks and those without the means to buy it, it isnt generally bought as a budget purchase but it sometimes seems a shame that some slavishly buy anything they release and some become so anti they miss out.

Snazy 30 January 2010 06:29 PM

Just to add in that case J4CKO... I could afford one if I wanted one.
In case anyone thinks im a pauper haha.

I would add to the list, people who demand form AND function too. Nothing wrong with a good looking device :)

Nope, just a mentalist :D

I couldnt really go out and just buy something at £500 without saving up, I could on a card but I tend to save up and then buy it, half the fun is the research and anticipation anyway.

I dont think there are that many on here where £500 is loose change.

Dedrater 30 January 2010 07:06 PM

So you would save up £500, buy one, then not have any justification for buying it?

Wanting one is justification, sometimes it's that simple, no real desire for an Ipad at the moment though, I have enough gadgets as it is.

The whole market for these things relies on the irational desire for a new shiny, slick gadget, I would venture that most people that buy one can do everything the Ipad does with something they already own.

Same here, but I fully agree, if you want something, then you find the money lol.

I understand what you mean about justification. I am the same with most things I waste my money on lol.

Luckily for me, if I want something, I don't just buy it, else I would have a high class hooker in my bed every night and would live next door to Burger King drive through:D

And Apple are so good at inventing new things .... Apple rips off another interface - The Inquirer

"... What it seems happened was that Jobs Mob looked around the web for a decent interface for its reader and found Delicious Library's bookshelf was the best around. Then it just nicked it ..."

Oh well, it'll still mean more money for Jobs ......

Best to double check your sources

Delicious Monster - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

It looks like there is more to the story

Delicious Library has been around for 6 years - since about OS X 10.2. It has won a number of Apple Design Awards and a number of its staff have gone on to work for Apple. It is one of the most well known Apple applications out there. There is no way that iBook's designer is not deeply familiar with Delicious Library.

And while books on shelves is a natural idea, Shipley undisputedly did something creative with it and added value.

Apple ripped that off, Apple knows it, Shipley knows it, but there is nothing that can be done about because look-and-feel is difficult to prove and Apple knows a thing or two about that.

Shipley is one generous guy though. Here is his response

“As a creator, part of what I seek is recognition, immortality. I don’t work for Apple, or Google (I’ve been offered jobs & buyouts) because I want the fame myself. It’s my shot at immortality. My designs are my children. So it stinks when I feel like Steve might get the fame for my innovation. I lose my children, as it were.”

“But your children aren’t really yours. They have lives of their own. So when your designs do change the world, you have to accept it. You have to say, ‘Ok, this was such a good idea, other people took it and ran with it. I win.’”

Innovation never ceases at Apple :)

Next from Apple: The Pocket iPad ? The Register

For all you Apple iPad fans who are eager to get your hands on one. Just hold back for a while because.........

Rumor: Apple Has Another Tablet In The Works. More Like A Mac Than An iPhone.

Confusing isnt it :lol1::lol1::lol1:

Snazy 02 February 2010 11:42 AM

Thats got to be gossip surely lol.
Makes far more sense though.

SwissTony 02 February 2010 11:57 AM

It does come from a rumors site :D

But the source has been right in the past but that counts for nothing when it comes to Apple.

The only way it would work is if Apple have a big game plan that laptops will be defunct in 10 years time and tablet computing will be the way forward. That would make the iPad (first version) the taster, the way to entice the public into the way of thinking that Apple want. Then when the wave of change has been started, they follow up with the iPad 15" with all the I/O and peripherals we have come to love with laptops, camera, proper OS etc.

That way you would have a credible replacement for the laptop/netbook

They would still have to overcome the hurdle of the keyboard as that is so ingrained in us

Snazy 02 February 2010 12:20 PM

I dont think any sensible company predicts a completely keyboardless world any time soon. Which is not a bad thing, as I will be lost without one lol.

Yeah I know its a rumours site, and I guess people love to get full on with rumours these days making them credible.
I shall watch the uptake on the iPad for now. Surely a rumour like this will hurt the sales too.

For me, the span of the releases is not really acceptable though. When you know your product should have certain things. Like the iPhone and iPhone 3G, it took them a year to give users a 3G handset when they could have done it off the bat. But then I guess it almost doubled their sales, so clever Apple. The marketting side anyway.

When has a company ever got the product right the first time and never changed it ???

I can only think of one...the etch-a-sketch :D

Even the wheel has been altered and was a bit **** to start off with, though Fred and Barney seemed quite happy with the launch :D

lol @ the etch-a-sketch, how very true!
I can see similarites there too lol.

Fair point made, but even from the start 3G was already an established service. So you can only guess that it would have almost been planned to release it once they had grabbed peoples attention (as you already said) but longed for a faster connection.

All very clever though :thumb:

Will be interesting to hear genuine user views once its actually out, not so much the fanboys but the people who appreciate a device for what it does not who made it lol.

Afternoon Hunt. :)
