The thing I don't understand with you Bubba is that you've bought an Impreza and you already pay the high general running costs associated with it, yet here you are making out we are a bunch of idiots for being prepared to pay an extra quid or two a tank for what is undoubtably a superior fuel (regardless of whether you yourself are actually able to detect the difference in the running of your own car).

The point made about the Newage versus classic ECU's ability to advance for a better fuel was a good one.

For what its worth my Griff and modded GTi6 were much more responsive with Optimax over other SL - not tried V yet - it was plain to see - just in the throttle blip factor - much crisper and quicker to gain revs - presumably more efficient burn + improved RON / CR

I have a mapped Volvo on 98ron. I too tried V Power out for the first time yesterday and over tesco i have noticed only better fuel consumtion. The power appears the same?

Tesco added ethanol to get 99RON... not the approach taken the V Power. If you burn equal amounts of Tesco 99 and V-Power, more energy will be released from the later. This is why fuel economy is different when using the two because with V-Power less fuel is required to get the same result. V-Power may be more expensive but you then need to factor in the mpg's returned - in my opinion V-Power is the better choice.

I noticed that fuel economy dropped when we went from Optimax to Tescos 99 RON. Haven't used V-Power enough to be able to tell how much improvement it's giving.

I use Sainsbury's super unleaded, Ben, because I think it's better for the car to use a super, and it's very reasonable at 87.9p per litre. But when I put normal unleaded in accidentally the other week I detected no difference at all. It's all this cobblers like "my car runs slightly rough on Ultimate and Excellium, but with V-Power it goes like stink and almost tears my face off" that gets my goat.

My car may be running smoother but I don't think an extra 1ron has any "noticeable" difference.

Whether it gets your goat or not is fairly irrelevant bubba, but I can assure you my sti feels very noticably smoother using v-power than it does with tescos 99. It didnt with optimax or any other super, and to be frank bp ultimate felt rough as hell, but with v-power it is much more responsive.

As mentioned earlier, it actually feels a touch slower with v-power than tescos, however it feels a lot healthier and smoother and the mpg is definitely better. Maybe this is a problem with my car rather than the fuel, I'm no mechanic. And to be frank I couldnt give a **** what petrol I use - I'd go for the cheapest quite happily, but the difference is clear as day and if you sat in the passenger seat in my car I can promise you'd notice the difference too.
