Recently looked at a used Volvo D6 to use as a runabout:
Plug-in hybrid. All wheel drive Zero tax £6000 and The good ol' 5pot DIESEL for 45+mpg economy and unlimited range on the long jaunts. None of this petrol hybrid nonsense. |
Pro drive announce a electric hearse.
TBH, the concept seemed like a good idea.... BUT.... They based it on a fugly Leaf:  https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.sco...addfbb12d.jpeg This is officially a car I will NEVER be seen dead in (I'm going to state that in my will). (checks calendar...nope not April 1st ) |

Rolls Royce to debut the Silent Shadow based on the BMW i7

Well...i7's grill is just about big enough to be used on a Rolls :lol1:

Ssems to be BMW motors and battery tech, Rolls chassis

I was watching something the other day about battery technology, and how much better the (and safer) the solid state stuff is, vs the Tesla 4680 battery which they are hoping to roll out this year. Was quite interesting, and it's clear that the solid state is the way to go, for various reasons, but it won't really be commercially available until 2025, which gives Tesla 4 years to tout the benefits of their new battery. I think that although Tesla are pushing what's capable of wet LiON batteries, the first gen solid state out perform it already, I imagine that in the next decade, we will see huge strides in the technology.
The Toyota one is claimed to be fully chargeable in 10 mins  |
Lots of issues to overcome in solid state batteries. I wish them luck. Finally managed to find a decent chap to enjoy my much loved STi today so deposit going down on my Model 3 tomorrow.

Anyway, lets get that new coal mine open in Cumbria, we'll need it to help produce the steel for all these new cars :) |

As much as I hope that's tongue in cheek, if we crushed all our cars to replace them with leccy stuff, the environmental impact of doing that would be catastrophic as well as unworkable. I'm sure I read the other day that the national grid would have to increase capacity by 4 times what it is today to deal with that.
Anyway, lets get that new coal mine open in Cumbria, we'll need it to help produce the steel for all these new cars :) Stupid decision to open a coal mine run a local plant. Did you read that to produce green hydrogen to run our replace our house gas boilers would require 40 times the amount of wind turbines currently in operation. Now to have 40 times the number of turbines would be excellent for everything but further development of hydrogen production is drastically needed |
How is the planet going to support another 20 % of people to be around that much longer ?
on Mars perhaps ? |
Problems for Tesla in China
https://www.bbc.com/news/business-55990821 Improvements in Hydrogen are ongoing. By the end of the decade Hydrogen will be the norm and EV's will be history! There was an interesting development in the press this week with Hydrogen paste which can be used in small vehicles like bicycles and scooters where a hydrogen gas fuel tank is not practical. |

So it’s ok for west to do business in China but not Russia - despite human rights abuses

Better off taxing people who use car travel to a fixed place of work, incorporating it into their tax code (simple calc; distance from work, extra percentage if partly driven in a car or taxi, bigger tax if fully driven, reduction for public transport use). Especially targeting those that live in far flung commuter belts. Employer and employee both held responsible for checking and verifying this (tracking via mobile phone geolocation, submitting ticket purchases etc). NO tax breaks for cars that use renewable or electric. For retail; Enviro tax on goods based on distance transported (bit like Spain's enviro tax on online purchases). Promoting a shift towards local retail. Big duty on needless transporting stuff, like importing water from overseas unless done via 100% renewable (not carbon offset :nono: ). Oh yes, reduction or a ban on tax breaks for carbon offset; Planting a tree does not make your 737 'green'. Tax gained of course should be directly placed into public infrastructure to maintain public mobility. Nationalisation/subsiding of routes for areas that are poorly served. It should be ring fenced on a political level as so not be used to fill black holes (like the NHS) and not for vanity projects that only serve the Capital (except completion of the Lower Thames crossing to give better access with the North to/from Folkestone). By reducing vehicle reliance via punitive taxation we should see a reduction of overall vehicle use; Covid lockdowns have shown that vehicle use for commuting can make a massive difference for both infrastructure overloading and consequently the environment (noise as well as air). As even fossil fuel vehicles become less polluting as they operate in free flowing traffic conditions, they also become more reliable and suffer less wear. It's a win on many levels. |
It has been announced
The coal mine application is being reviewed before final decision. |

Most corporations "caring" for the environment appears to be a trend to sustain business. |
