God I hope when the actual full details are released next month there is something about them solving this problem.
IMO - to solve a problem, you generally need to admit that there is a problem in the first place. Anyway, do as said above - write to the dealer and request something back in writing to put your mind at rest. |

Hi again guys.
I'm sort of stuck now between a rock and a hard place. I've placed a rather large deposit down on the car, and I don't think I'll be able to cancel and get my money back. I really want the new Sti. I'm sort of in the mindframe that if all these new models start going wrong - Subaru really wouldn't have a leg to stand on. My biggest concern would be Subaru trying to blame a possible failure on driver error. I'm not going to mod mine at all, and I won't be bouncing her off the red-line either. I'm also worried that the supplying dealer who is doing me the deal on the Subaru is hundreds of miles from me. Therefore in the event of something going wrong, I would be taking it to Derek Slacks in Teeside - who didn't sell me the car, and would probably not give me the level of customer care that the supplying dealer would. But, like I said - I've paid my deposit now and signed the order form. I'm really gutted by all this. It's really taking the shine and excitement off what should be a fantastic thing to look forward to. Don't let all the comments on here get you down. You have paid your deposit and ordered your car so look forward to getting it. The car will be the latest evolution and have a 3yr warranty so why worry :thumb: |

And when you do start it up in a morning and see some smoke ya **** yeself, but normally its nothing. As for your deposit, a dealer will have a Min amount he can allocate, My new A45 which is due when the moon turns Blue LOL, was 500 quid, they cant keep it all but possibly a few quid. im sure youll be fine |

Very nice mate, will be looking forward to seeing the pictures
And they only hate because as much they will deny it, they can't afford the 30k for the new version and are still happy with the classics and new ages etc The op will buy if he wants, some of us have been there and are only trying to pass on our experiences. |
Be nice to see how the journos review it, I can see the power output having a dig with no change from the previous but I reakon the internals will get positive reviews

Well the dealer who I have discussed the car with tells me this year's allocation of 200 units are almost gone. On that basis I'm sure they would give you a full refund as they could still potentially sell it if they are selling like hot cakes. I'm sure you could come up with a decent story of some financial change and you can't afford it at the moment but all things improving you will come back for the next allocation hence the dealer won't want to lose a potential future customer. But I think the truth is your too excited now to cancel and want to be one of the first to get your hands on one so you take the risk..........
Pretty sure they have sorted out the detonation, ringland issues with the mapping. They havent all gone pop. Bought mine new in 2008. Got it mapped by bob Rawle almost immediately. Not missed a beat since. 45K miles. Track days, drift days. Ran it for a couple of years on regular unleaded as well. Would have no hesitation in trading it for a new one if they still did the hatch. |

'those lot'
'Jealous w4ankers ' 'People that's cant afford 30k ' Tend to be people that have been here and on the Scooby scene for many years and have owned and experienced pleasure and problems too and deal in facts and have read and discussed many cases of engine failure that is well known in the community Not just a bunch of newbys :D I'm sure the journalists will love the new STi it will be a great car and tend to deal in the positives and arent interested in high RFL and petrol costs and past history of problems That doesn't sell magazines Hopefully the op won't cancel the new car as it will be great and well admired by us all as its a looker and good value for money too After three years I would imagine you will be able to extend the warrenty for 4/5 years |
Indeed lordharding.
I've was a loyal Subaru customer for 15 years, purchased 5 brand new cars from them during that time, including a 330S. However, I was disgusted at how customers were treated when they experienced engine failures on the hatch model. Two very good friends of mine had failures - one was quite simply refused warranty, and told that he had driven his car to destruction. The other did eventually get a replacement engine under warranty - which shat itself I might add in less then 10K. I really hope Subaru have addressed the problems. |

I appreciate that Subaru did try to attack the Det issue in the 2009 onwards by altering the fuel richness and delivery at High revs, but it never solved it. Check out the USA forum, they sold 1000s of the cars hence why its littered with blown up engines. I think the main problem I personally have are these other issues Road Tax, Subaru need to pull their fingers out 2xx CO2 plus Cars are old hat end of, esp on a 2.5L I can understand on a C63 AMG. Fuel dependency, we all know that Super Unleaded is better for any cars, but stipulating it is ****, I hated that. MPG, 300BHP from a 2,5L and 26MPG and Audi and Merc are doing 300BHP from a 2L with 40MPG. rubbish. If it was my 30 Grand id be looking at Golf R and Audi S3s, also PCP on these 2 is cheap due to high residuals. The OP will of course make his own decision, reading these forums isn't great, but it also helps with issues should you ever have any. But although we do sound negative its only because weve done research or been bitten and are passing on the info. The problem I faced was your always aware of this now, end of, so when you boot it, you kinda think its gonna happen and drive accordingly, backing off changing quicker, thus spoils the fun. I used mine for Business no way could I have had it in the garage for a new engine, I need reliability. Would I ever go back, maybe if Subaru upped their game and did a 2L 40MPG 400BHP monster. Just as Merc have done on the Black Edition, they used to be a benchmark did Subaru way out there with high BHP, where we the users would put up with **** insides in favour of high power engines. Now it doesn't cut it, everyone's 300BHP and much better internally to the eye. I just don't see anything to draw me back. Its sad though, how negative we all are, compared to a few years ago when we were all indeed on Subarus side. if hes buys it, uses only Super Unleaded, reg checks the Oil, and doesn't fettle it with any aftermarket remap, then I think he will be ok. |
Well said :thumb:

Im sure you could extend warranty. There are private companies that supply warranties too! Don't have to get it through dealer

Newcastle Subaru (on Autotrader) are advertising the new STI with a 5 year warranty. Wouldn't it be fab if next month, when all the official details are fully released it actually DID come with the 5 years?

details in full wont be released until the Geneva motorshow in march from what I'm aware

well i ordered mine on the 24th Jan :)
lots of positives, it looks great, revised steering and handling new reinforced 6 speed box with short shift! and as of monday 3rd Feb only 35 are left, once they are gone there wont be a second batch some reports say only 110 are coming to the UK, others say 270 but either way mine is ordered and i cant wait |
110 or 270.......I doubt that is anything to do with supply issues. Car makers operate on supply to demand. The big boys shift that volume in a single day.
I agree that a few if us are now very negative to the brand. There is still something in our blood though or we wouldn't keep popping on here. Genuinely hope the buyers get durable, reliable cars. If they had a decent engine they would I reckon have a few of us doubters looking a little closer. |
If the new 2.5 is "all-new" or even just has stronger studs bolting down the head gaskets and a new piston design - not necessarily even ones that are "forged" - then the engine may be a good one.
But I would argue even then that this does not represent a huge step forward when other manufacturers are making smaller capacity engines that are likely going to be very reliable and have lower emissions, lower fuel consumption etc etc. |

I wonder what the depreciation will be like on the new one?
Having to wait for more info to be dribbled out from Subaru is painful. I keep checking google everyday. Lol. |

Pcp valued the last saloon at 6k after 5 years.....
That being said I still see the saloon at 17k now after 3nhalf years. |
I see the engine issue has raised its head here :lol1:
Well as Subaru re designed both the 2ltr and 2.5ltr engines a couple of years back now and released it in the 2013 models in Japan (so not the same crappy engine), it may be better ;) What its running internally... god knows but no doubt they have resolved the previous issues of engines going pop with ringland failure for the hell of it (in both standard and modified variants) they may have well wanted to put that behind them. Tony:) |
Does anyone know how much there will be of the famous Subaru sound on the new one?

In its defence Hulk Engine issues aside, I had 1 ( the old saloon ) for 3 years and it was bulletproof, I sold it due to end of warrenty and I didn't want the engine to give way when I wasn't covered. If you plan to keep it after 3 years then just bare that in Mind, its the same Block that we all rant about. hence why ive just bought the A45, I would have had the scoob IF they had dropped the 2.0L in but they don't listen to us customers just do what they want. I think that would be safe to say more of us would have gone back to the brand if they had given a hoot about us. It will be lovely, and youll be getting it about the same time I get my A45 end of May June... Enjoy it your actually closeish to me, im Leeds I could come and look when you get it :) Where did you buy from KT Greens ? |
