Wise words, Lisa. Political correctness has stifled freedom of expression which inturn has lead to stunted dialogue. People with opposing outlooks or who are from different cultures have to feel able to speak openly so as to better understand one another. Even if one says 'the wrong thing' then at least the recipient has the opportunity to explain why it was wrong. Political correctness breeds resentment and the least productive types within any groups (including Snet) are those who try to oppress adult discussion around difficult subjects.

True but the Irish arguably have a reason to have antipathy towards the British Army or at least have a long history of it.

It's not quite the same as this idea from the employees in question that a) they have a 'special solidarity' with Iraqis just because they share the same religion and....b) the British Army is in Iraq to murder and oppress Iraqis. The former is make believe and hypocrisy and the latter is a lie. Behind all propaganda you find both lies and hypocrisy.

I think that the point is, this is our country and part of our tradition is to commemorate those servicemen who fought bravely for our country and lost their lives during those wars. There is no way that we can be criticised for that and it would be a travesty if we stopped doing it as well.

If others want to live in our country and not only that, accept our benefits which we have paid for over the years, then it devolves on them to accept our traditions and if necessary fit in with them. If they don't want to wear a poppy that is up to them but they have no right to complain because we do. They should behave as we would in their country.

It is about time these PC Plonkers wound their necks in and also that the tail stopped wagging the dog!

You miss the point. The employees who complaining were not simply rejecting a tradition but were exploiting our cultural relativism and guilt to push their propaganda and politics of grievance.

If in fact this was true of course!
