Hi Ian,

Have not been on Scoobynet for a while and just seen your thread. Glad to see my mates car going back on the road, I did think it may take a bit of time but you have made good progress. When you said the car you bought before was a lemon I did not realise how bad jeez. Anyway il keep an eye on your project mate.

Oh and just after you took Robins car my type R got wrote off by some old dear driving into me on the dual carriageway. another one I broke up think thats my third one not including your one that was my mates. Kinda gave up with scoobs after that!!! Guy who bought my shell was doing some project on here with it so I will see if its on here.

Regards

John :thumb:

Hi mate hope all is well, lol yer the first car was a complete lemon lol, it's getting there mate slowly but surely, plans keep changing gone from a built 2.0 with an md to a 2.1 stroker with sorted heads and a rotated setup lol.
What a ****y day it was when I came to get the shell hey lol we where soaked, I don't think your mate was to pleased at putting it back together again, was very good of him to help though it was appreciated, and his Evo was gorgeous.

Sorry to hear about the type r buddy that was a gorgeous motor, bloody pensioners hey lol.

JohnDav78 01 March 2011 09:22 PM

Yes mate Steve still gives me stick now but all in jest, he got a few goodies off the Scoob for his evo from Robin for stripping the car so he was happy with that!!! I ended up having the mitsi off steve as he went all sensible but hes got a project R5 he is working on now trying to get ready asap to do some track days this year. Do miss that type R though but looking at your pics I should have nicked that chargespeed kit off the car for mine!!!!!

Anyway your car is coming along nicely as you find with a car project you will start putting more uprated parts on than you planned!!!

Regards John

Looking good.

Keep up the hard work and the updates.

pjarvis6666 01 March 2011 11:53 PM

Looking like a monster project. Great to see someone having a go and learning on the way :thumb:

worbs 02 March 2011 08:24 PM

Lol apologise to him for me jon lol, the charge speed kit is nice mate i like it, although i may try and get a set of the ab arches on there as well for extra width.

Thanks guys good to know people are following it lol, will have a few more big updates in the coming months.

worbs 05 March 2011 06:37 PM

Been up and done a few hours today, got the rear diffuser finished and the back box dummy fitted so to make sure all fits ok, will have to make up a bracket for the exhaust hanger and thats it, i love the way it looks and think it will look evil when sprayed same colour as the car.
Got the defi`s all wired in inside the cabin and started to make up the centre console ready to house the defi controll unit the anti lag, launch controll etc switches and the syvecs controll switch.
Iv got just over 2 weeks off at the end of april and i hope to get the engine built up and in along with the gearbox in that time but will have to see how it goes.

Few pics of the rear diffuser

pjarvis6666 06 March 2011 09:54 PM

I wouldnt like to come into close contact with the back of that. Reminds me of the Saw films lol

GazJenno 06 March 2011 10:47 PM

Doesnt look like you have any angle on that diffuser :S bit of a strang design if your trying to get downforce from it?

Gaz

worbs 09 March 2011 09:03 PM

Im a total novice at building cars mate, this is my first attempt.
It has been discussed on another forum and the outcome on the need for it to be angled was not necessarily lol, if nothing else it will hopefully reduce the drag the rear bumper may have produced and allow air to flow more freely out of rear.

GazJenno 10 March 2011 12:33 AM

Dont get me wrong Im trying to be a dik and I know how much effort goes into to doing DIY modifications. Im just trying to let you know that this design could be so much better, I mean I dont know a massive amount about aerodynamics except for what Ive done in the Aerodynamics module in my Motorsport degree course. Funny thing is I have just completed a report on underbody geometry of ground vehicles mainly looking at diffusers. I have also done CFD analysis of a simplified Impreza with a flat floor and slight angled diffuser, after seeing your design I cut out the back of the car up to where the rear diff would be to replicate your design and ran that through CFD.

Im sure that this design will give totally different characteristics to the standard rear bumper but with a little more thought you could obtain greater performance by a simple change to the geometry of your diffuser. I can post the CFD results and explain it in more detail if anyones interested, I have also found out quite abit of the flow around an Impreza body which helps identify the best place for a rear wing and type of wing. Although CFD data should always be taken with a pinch of salt the modern software is fairly good at predicting fluid flow.

Hi mate i didnt think you where being a dik at all fella, the whole reason im running my thread is so people can make comments on it and point me in the right direction.
I would be very intersted to see the results mate feel free to post them on here if you like, would like to see how my design would work and how to improve it then how that would work, plus the ideal place for the rear wing as ill be fitting an aero type one of those as well, or maybe try and get something made to how the CDF says.
Again mate no hard feelings what so-ever your input is greatly apriciated :thumb:

mickywrx 10 March 2011 06:36 PM

I wouldn't mind seeing it also, Gaz. Interested but probably wouldn't understand any of it. ;)

Coming along well Ian. :thumb:

I should apologise for not getting back to you guys. Im currently in the middle of completeing my dissertation and so all my time is being focussed on that at the moment along with all my other lectures and projects. Its not very straight forward getting the data out of the CFD and putting it up and if I was going to I would rather write an explination of the tests so people understand what is going on. I shall try and get it up for you but probably will be in a few weeks after my dissertation deadline so please bare with me. I'll put it up as another project or something so not to hi-jack your thread any further. Hope its all going well for you guys! Keep it up and I'll respond soon.

Fuel system is now all plumbed

CRonson7 21 June 2011 06:39 AM

will be good to see what power that engine makes as the spec is almost identical to mine haha :thumb:

forgot to ask what external wastegate are you using?

Just out of interest, why did you change your plans from a built 2.0l to a 2.1?

I was a bit concerned about lag being and issue when running a big rotated turbo on a 2.0 mate, plus I got the 2.1 at a very good price ;0)
