My surname, on the other hand, is a PITA, because it's spelled a completely different way from how it's pronounced (Cawte, pronounced 'court'). I don't mind spelling it out to people, but it does p*ss me off when they still manage to get it wrong - it's only 5 letters long FFS, but I still find that half the people I deal with over the phone can only remember the first three before asking me to repeat it. (My Dad even had someone tell him once that he was wrong...!)

Unusual names - they're just a nuisance :(

I totally agree.

If I told you the number of times I used to correct people...these days I say, "call me what you like/pronounce it how you like".

However another part of me says, "Its my name, it's not that difficult, just make a modicum of effort and pronounce it correctly, please"

I sometimes used to be envious of others whose names could be shortened into something neat and cool. Try shortening mine without bursting out laughing - actually don't!
