I worked down at Coryton for 9 years, and fortunately there was only one incident like this whilst I was there (although I don't think it was as bad as this as it was on the lube leg which isn't quite as volatile). It is pretty scary when the alarms go off, and the flames and smoke appear. I am glad to hear everyone down there is ok.
Didn't realise that there were any members of the ESC working there.

Fozz-what unit went up? I heard that it was the isom tower, but they didn't know whether a fire started and caused the explosion, or something sparked the explosion which then caused the fire.

35 unit on the fuels complex. C5/C6 Isom unit.

Early indications are of a butane release/leak after a unit "trip" which caused an explosion and the resulting fire.

Must have been seriously scary for anyone working on the unit. Was you anywhere nearby? What do you do down there?

Glad everyone is ok! :thumb:

Does Giggsy not work over that way also? :wonder:

Tilbury Docks I think. Not too far away, but far enough.

I'm the manager of lifting operations for the refinery.

Fortunately the unit had been evacuated due to the "trip" a short while before hand so no one was on the unit. I wasn't far away, heard the boom behind me and felt the shockwave followed by intense heat from the blast.......time to leave! :D

I bet it was straight to the locker room for new trousers then down into the control room behind the huge blast doors!:lol1:

Glad you & the others are all ok. :thumb:

Shouldn't you have been in some blast shelter with your head between your legs rather than running around like David Bailey taking pictures?

Pity you couldn't have got the Scoob in one.

Would have been great for the calendar.

Mark ;)
