Very good thread.
An observation; have seen a few pics of this intercooler fitted. Some have taken the cross-member between lights off, which allows you to mount the intercooler a little higher. Instead, bolt the intercooler to the bumper when you put it back on.
If you leave that cross-member on and bolt the intercooler to it, it will be lower and intercooler sits lower than the bumper...........

KIPS 19 March 2007 07:38 PM

HI AFRIKANZE Did notice that myself on some of them but, But dosent the weight of the inter cooler make the bumper sag? im going to fit a lower spliter so I can mount the number plate to it or i might put in the top of my screen
kip,

AFRIKANZ 19 March 2007 08:33 PM

KIPS, that's a point too. My FMIC is sat in the garage so can't speak from experience.
How is the intercooler mounted at the bottom?

BTW; a very informative thread!

Thanks for the comment on the thread good to get some feed back:thumb:
with the front mount kit you get two flat plates that bolt onto the bottom of the intercooler the these bolt to the lower crossmember under the rad dosent take the weight but just holds it steady ill be adding that to the thread this weekend when im off work to try and finish it

Ok my thoughts..

How far does it protrude from the bottom on the bumper?

How about flattening the bumper bar where the intercooler sits so that will raise it up about an inch or so? I wouldnt be inclined to remove it and fit it to the bumper....

im a little concerned at how far it sticks out as it looks prone to get smacked esp on lowered cars on speed bumps etc..

I made the mistake of flattening the bumper bar and it took the stregth away from the bar and it sagged even further down:lol1: My FMIC hangs below the bumper but the two toe eyes hang lower than the bumper so that gives it abit of cover.

Looks very neat and tidy KIPS :thumb:

tronlc 19 March 2007 09:23 PM

Yes thats a good point, I suppose if you did flatten it, you could then fabricate some brackets you could attach to the lower crossmember that the fmic could also sit on to stop sag..

KIPS 19 March 2007 09:24 PM

cheers knighty99 :thumb:
did think about the flatening idea myself wont be doing that now thanks for info
If you mount leaving the bumper bar as it is you wont have any problems fitting foglights back in as the pipes behind clear any mounting points

The bumper "should" hold it steady :wonder:

I'll let you know if it does :Whatever_ (when I get round to do it)

Keep us posted KIP!

Once the bumper is bolted on it does add even more support also the brackets u get with the intercooler are strong and add support.

mickywrx 21 March 2007 08:46 PM

I found that mine didn't sit that much lower that the bumper without the splitter on, only a cm or so IIRC. Mounted to the bumper bar thing.

Been looking at mine hangs down about the same but have been trying to work out a way of freeing up the bottom bars that are coverd to get even more efficiant cooling but stumped how to get round it

The only way of gettin air to the lower bars would be to drill holes in the bumper? As your car is black you could get away with it?

With the FMIC you can feel the difference in temperature either end of the intercooler, left hand side warm and the right stone cold works a treat even with the lower bars covered:thumb:

on mine i trimmed the bumper bar and cut 5mm off the mounting points of the i/c and used the lower brackets that came with the kit (there are 2 bolt holes in the lower cross-member already and same size as bolts that come with the kit).everything is super rigid and i have had no sag,the i/c does not protrude the bottom of the bumper but having it higher means i cannot get me fogs back in ,yet!
