LOL, Toooooooooo far Tony

:D

Just had a deep and meaningful with her as you lot had me a little paranoid and she is happy with the way we've done things. In her words, "the amount of effort you've put into researching this to get me the 'right' ring shows how much you love me and I know we'll end up with a ring we both really, really want and like" - good enough for me :):p

On a serious note, do tend to agree with perhaps there being an element of the emotion being taken out of this.....

Design your own wedding bands etc if you so desire....but engagement is different.

Too late now of course, BUT......

If you know the girl, you should know her likes & dislikes, and if not, you should have spent at least 10 minutes of your existing courtship letting her gaze in a jewellers shop to gauge her tastes.

Another way is to buy her some cheap tat ring as a practice run and extrapolating her tastes from that IN YOUR OWN HEAD

Still, as I said, too late now. You've taken the excitement out of it all Boo hiss, poor show
:thumb:

Spot on (IMHO)

I seriously think you guys need to stop thinking about women generically or your own partners!!! Laura and I spent a lot of time 'looking' when we were courting and I knew exactly what she liked/didn't like.

In the end I decided that this way was better and that she'd prefer it and I was right because she told me so last night (she's not the sort to protect my feelings). She's happy and that's all that matters so we really need to drop the whole romance thing. I think she found it romantic/surprising enough when I told her to pack a weekend bag because we were going somewhere in an hour to then be taken to the airport and learn she is going to Paris 1.5 hours before she steps on the plane :)

Oooohhhhh....but if only she'd had that shiny ring to wear on the return journey home :(

Never mind eh

....and you are not even married yet, don't hold out much hope for ya ;)

If it takes this long to buy a ring no wonder it takes them so long to process a planning application.

How about looking at second hand jewellery, with the diamond you might require. Can always have it re-set and it might be cheaper.
