It is laudible that you're defending both your kids and the state funded education system.
But, what an absolute load of tosh, kids nowadays are thick as pig****.
Did you have to sit an 11+?
I would be willing to wager that 11 year olds today wouldn't be able to pass it.

My opinion and from interviewing about 300 people a year who want to work in a lawyer's office.

Most cannot spell or add up.This is despite the mass of qualifications they profess to have.I did private to 13 then state.Clever children did well and attained good grades,but not the whole school.

Apologies if you find it offensive.I am just so concerned about the current education system I am willing to make big sacrifices.No we aren't wealthy either it's just my worry as a parent and my business.

My Aunt is a deputy head in a rather well known state funded school in "that" London.
SATS aren't worth a J-Arthur is the word from those who teach.

Nor are AS, A levels, degree's or any other paperwork if you listen to everyone else.

If SATS mean nothing, why do the teaching staff at Primary School's encourage and develop the Year 6 students, and then subject them to this stressful time?

SATS are used by the 'Senior' Schools to determine which level of achievement that child has obtained, and then teaches the child at that level.

As we all know, having a degree isn't the be all and end all of a sucessful career, but having that certificate will help.
If the 'Senior' school is unable to determine a childs intellect, how will they be able to help develop the child in the correct manner.

No reason why children should be any less intelligent than they always used to be. If however they are not brought up properly than they will be very short of the knowledge how to behave and are less likely to learn anything at school, which makes them appear to be a bit shy on intelligence.

I wish I had never embarked upon my degree, waste of time and hasnt opened a single door for me that I hadnt already opened on my own.
However it is within one of the 3 core subjects so I shall never struggle for work.
What use is a degree in fine art and pottery to a spotty faced 18 year old molly-coddled by the system into believing they are special, worthwhile and will later make a valuable contribution to society.

Not sure i agree with that. My partner would always put his eldest Son before me and now i would always put our Son before my partner. Its just the way things are.

I was brought up in a situation where the partner was the main focus and i, as the only child was to all intents and purposes ignored until put into care at 15. Children need to know they are the main focus when they are young IMO.

the problem in the situation you highlight is that partner was not only put in front of child, but child was ignored etc.
Also, eldest son sounds like from a previous marriage, so he was about before you, so the father should imho put his son before you.
your son however sounds like from this relationship, so you should put the father before your son, not exclude the son but first dibs on the love should go to the father.
