8.20 when we arrived and set up camp...
stayed dry for about ten minutes after the driving started...
Then it lashed down for the rest of the day. :(

Haha, so the fact that i did 37.7 on my first timed run then 36.7 on the second and still 38.5 in torrential rain means i wasnt consistent then :p

give me your car and ill knock 2 seconds off that again ;)

i was just using basic road tyres in all conditions, so didnt really have an advantage while it was still relatively dry either, no 888's here!

Neil, I reckon you had the best wet tyres there, certainly better than R888’s. IIRC you were on Pilot sports, which I know 1st hand that they are awesome in the wet around the Ring. Well done on your result.

Despite the rain it was a great day and the rain certainly made the handling circuit interesting to watch :D The hardest part seemed to be stopping in correct place ;) There were a lot of really well prepared cars there and I think TOTB will have a very strong team.

Congratulation to Dirk on winning the final, not bad for the first time he’d driven the car :thumb: Bet your glad you stuck with your part warn T1R’s now Shaun. The guys on the semi-slicks really struggled in the standing water and I’d hate to have hit a puddle towards the end of the quarter mile. As AndyF (Congratulations by the way) said I think the dry period at the being of the day skewed some of the times.

Funniest thing of the day was watching Dirk being interviewed for TV, defiantly a face for radio ;)

All in all a good weekend with Japfest on Saturday, if very tiring! :)

i felt alot safer doing the 1/4 mile than the handling with my pilot sport cups, they were superb in a straight line and under braking for what tread they haven't got, didn't feel like i was going to lose it at any point, but on the handling circuit they were pretty scarey, the second i tried to turn in for any of the corners they would aquaplane, try and put the power down and they would just spin up and throw me sideways, was amazed i was only 2 secs off the wet pace

With 17" 888's on, when it was persisting it down, my 1/4 mile time was only 0.21 secs slower than my PB at Santa Pod(done on 16" standard wheels with 'ditchfinder' wheels aka tornado alpha's).
i could feel it moving about a bit though during the run and kept thinking iwas gonna lose it on braking at the end of the runs:eek:

The reason why Dirk drove the car for the event, is because I wanted the car to have the best shot at winning the handling and a thorough shakedown..... bearing in mind the heavy potential for rain and my lack of experience, it had to be someone else. Also, if I had driven and won, I would of only had people saying that I must of driven the circuit on the Saturday afternoon etc etc.... we all know how cynical some people can get! ;)

The truth in the matter is, is that the car is capable of much more. Dirk had never driven the car before and had explained that his times in the dry could of easily been improved by over 2+secs (his best time in the dry was 37.20 and the nutter put in a 39.21 on his sighting lap :eek:) with more driving time in the car (on normal roads etc to get used to it). This was further backed up, by the fact that Dirk put in a 37.68 when the handling circuit was at it's wettest (on his 5th lap). :eek:

Again, with another lap and more seconds :D behind the wheel he reduced that to 37.51 in the wet for the final shootout, on part worn T1R's with the diff FULLY open (not on the start line mind you :D)!!!! (anyone who knows what a Scoob does with the diff FULLY open in the wet around a handling circuit, will realise how mental that is). ;) :eek: :D

As a shakedown, the car performed faultlessly. :luxhello: Now I need more driving time, so I can perform as well as the car is undoutedly capable of.

Personal thanks to Dirk for taking the car for a "Sunday Drive". If you can drive like that without being in the car before, being half asleep etc.... I would hate to see what you would be like if you really tried!!! :D :cry:

It could be argued that the Toyo T1R's were better mate. Same conditions in the final (WET), Neil did a 39.20 whilst my car did a 37.51.

In all seriousness, Dirk said that he had loads of grip and that was with the diff fully open. ;) lol

My T1R's were utter **** in the dry, not bad in the wet.

Diff fully open in the persisting it down with DO1j's on was bloody hilarious. As soon as my car came on boost, all did was send the arse end in some random direction :D

Respect to everyone on the handling circuit, some very good efforts there.
