The thing is loads of people attack Subaru's for some reason it seems the norm on here, all your Seat Leon/Cupra, Clio's R32's Audi's!!! and yeah of course people will defend their scoobs i mean it does say Scoobynet on the wrapper!

I think its not all about straight line speed either its driver ability and admittely the Subaru flatters the driver and has to be one of the best point to point car's on country roads especially in modified form, the Clio 182 Cup is possibly the best hot hatch ever produced yet! so lets leave it that.

lets stop f**king squabbling over a 0.4 sec to 100 and go and gang up on some Porsche drivers 'cos they really are cnuts!:)

exactly! have just read this thread with amusement! as a bit of a petrolhead, i have stacks of old road tests with performance figures in and yes the standard uk turbo classic (and the latest new age ) post quicker times in gear(3rd and 4th, and higher speeds in 5th) than the clio 172, 182 cup etc but only by 0.5-2 sec depending on speed increment and both of the cars are fantastic at what they do with the classic impreza being one of the greatest overall cars of the 90s as agreed by pretty much all the car mags. theres so much more to cars anyway than pure performance figures-things like how they feel, respond, there character ,for example. a car like a Ford Puma, although not that quick or fast (125mph, 0-60 in 8.6 secs) is apparently a cracking drive and ultimately more rewarding to drive than alotof cars that are quicker and faster. As regards to the 240bhp wrx classics, alot of them are very tired now and arent maintained properly so they wont perform as they should. for example, a friend has an early 93 wrx and although its lighter and supposed to have 32 bhp more than my 98 uk turbo, it feels poor compared to my car and i always out-accelerate it.

I'm with this guy.

Some subaru drivers here really do need a reality check. Example, my P1 must be touching 290bhp and feels ballistically quick, my bro's cup has around 185bhp and feels no where near as quick....to me! He can, however, stay glued to my arse until 80-90, from a rolling start. Now, someone going from my car into his would not beleive this unless they'd seen it with their own eyes. A 'good' standard Cup should do the 1/4 mile in 14.6s, that's with a 2.2 60ft time, so up and running a standard cup should cause classic and wrx scoobs a real problem.

davyboy 05 August 2005 07:03 PM

Awesome, being as I own a Porsche and a Clio I guess that make me a chav cvnt :)

J4CKO 05 August 2005 07:35 PM

I thought this was about a Saab vs a Clio 172 ?

I have a 9-3 LPT with 150 bhp, doesnt sound like much but its fairly quick, its all midrange grunt, 177 llbs ft at 2000 ish rpm, the Clio has 147 llbs/ft at 5400 rpm so unless its really going for it it will get wasted and even then the Clio does 30-70 in 7.1 and the Saab is just under 8 seconds, not enough to see much difference on the road, this is why the original poster did better than expected against a 172, assuming the old model is similar in performance.

What most Saabs wont do though is go round corners in the manner of a 172 Clio !

Im just going to stick a stripped out Nova 2l 16v turbo and its game over for this arguement. I own a scoob and have never owned a Nova, but have to say they cant realy be beaten for horses per pound. Clio 172 or 182 = Hair dressers, fitness instructors.......................................

J4CKO 05 August 2005 11:22 PM

'Clio 172 or 182 = Hair dressers, fitness instructors'

If thats the case, who owns all the Audi TT's ?

The Clio is definitely not for the image concious, it says to me that the driver cares most about performance per pound spent, amen to that.

Fredclio 06 August 2005 04:09 AM

Bring on the ClioTT that'll shut up all these scooby boys

What sort of 1/4 mile times do these "jap crap" run????

thank God, someone who has a proper idea of the real world :D To many on here with rose tinted scooby glasses.

Good to see its all sorted but back to the guy who called Cliosport a chav club, and linked to a Clio with a bodykit as his 'proof'. No offence, I dont like bodykitted Clio's but your Scooby is most probably more O.T.T than the Clio. I'm talking Mahoooosive spoiler, arches, bonnet etc. Fair enough yours comes out of the factory like that, but it makes you look hypocritical.

ethanrob 06 August 2005 10:35 AM

What's going on here then
Is this some sort of invasion of the clio sport girl's,how's about p**s off back to ya girly car forum and stop spamming SN

I have owned a clio cup,and by no mean's is it a patch on my present scoob,i dare say it could hold it's own against a bog standard wrx,but that's it"hold it's own" there would be no "scoobykilling" going on,that is a sert

let's not forget, the clio 182/cup is the top of the tree for the clio,where-as the wrx is no where near top spec scoob

Prick's

So if we got the cars on say a wet track in Bedford, what do you think would happen?

;)

davyboy 06 August 2005 10:42 AM

What a funny day that was ;)

Oh Tony listen to yourself!

ben j 06 August 2005 12:28 PM

its easy really... round a track they'd be pretty even, off the line the scoob easily tho. but u have to know how to "drive" to drive a clio hard round a track, u dont in a scoob, 4wd means anyone can just rag it hard

And what? the majority of people with hot hatches who are inexperienced and the car flatters their driving, and the ammount of accidents, proven by the way, that young inexperienced drivers have is pretty high, and considering if you go onto cliosport or any other performance hatchback forum, half the posts are "ive crashed my car", think that says it all really

Steve vRS 06 August 2005 01:26 PM

But can a Scoob do 38-40mpg on an 80mph motorway run?

Neither of mine could!

Both Scoobs were quicker though (the Type R by a country mile). I'm taking the Clio on track next weekend so I'll be able to report back on how enjoyable it is which, to me, is more important than how much quicker than the other cars there it is.

lol

Let me see..... how many french cars have i owned now...... oh 8 yes EIGHT, of which 3 were renaults, ive pretty good experience with french cars, including hot hatches, and out of the peugeot/renault's that ive had, ive got to say, peugeot won hands down, and why? well i do remember renault not screwing in my sump plug after a service, nice patch of oil on the path that was  plus their care and cars were not quite 100%, and it seems they have gone down hill from there, though the cars ive had from them were nice to own/drive, everything else sucked.
You say ive not put anything useful into this thread? well you can use the above :p
Also, of couse a clio will outpace a scoob  they may be evenly matched but the clio is not quicker, and all your going against is the lowest spec turbo, which can hump a family of 4 around in comfort, no need to move seats, then you add a picture of a scoob that had a slightly over enthusiastic driver and show a clio that acutally hasnt broken down (or has it? ;)) and then you slate scoob drivers, but when you get some flak back you jump on your high horse, and remember, this is a SUBARU BBS, not a renault one ;) so we will defend our marque on here, plus we like our cars to be on the road 365 days of the year, not half that time in a renault dealer ;) nor do we have the sort of rejection rate a renault dealer has, if anything, ive never known anyone to reject a subaru :D
Im done for the moment, any more comments on french cars?

Tony

Not on my high horse at all - I like a bit of banter, but your post about Clio owners crashing was at best, sh1t :)

Lets be fair, every winter I seem to recall Imprezas being crashed on here!

TonyBurns 06 August 2005 02:59 PM

This is true, but thats normally because people dont know how to drive in winter ;) especially on snow, they over rate what the car can do, this is the point im getting at, clio's are aimed at younger drivers, who take for granted that abs/ebd and other safety features mean that they can drive faster and closer, oh and try to stop quicker, most impreza drivers (note the most) have been driving a good 5 or more years and some of us who have been driving longer than that also know that abs/ebd etc are just gimicks, only the driver can get you out of trouble by not getting into trouble in the first place, hence you see lots more crashed hot hatches with young drivers who dont have the experience or cannot anticipate the roads.
Hot hatches flatter the drivers now, same as scoobs do, but the younger drivers associated with these cars assume its their driving thats better, and i can say that ive kept up with a 320 series merc on a twisty road in a 2ltr diesel van, whos that down to? the car or the driver?

Tony

davyboy 06 August 2005 03:06 PM

The point of this thread I think is that if a car is similar in power and weight to another car, with a better driver it can punch above it's weight. Hence a Clio could stay with a WRX and WRX could keep with an M3.

I can imagine a thread on the Porshce BBS talking about Subaru drivers in the same way as you are talking about Clios owners.
