Actually my car happens to be stealth, and I’ve since enhanced its stealthness :nono:

If I was getting a full respray I’d like something similar to the midnight purple off an R33 GT-R, but darker (however I am not sure it would suit the car).

I like a dark metallic grey too, Banny had a nice metallic grey Type R, was a Mercedes colour IIRC.

Never really cared for the Nardo grey myself, just looks like primer :lol1:

I know mate thats why I said it looooooooooooool. Have you thought about going Black 2.0, it barely reflects any light :lol1:

If you're going with wider arches perhaps a lighter colour to highlight the lines :wonder:

Next job is to get the underside back to bear metal but because my back has a meltdown regularly there was no way that I was going to crawl around under the car even with it on the lift. Also, the lift is great but you can't get at big areas of the underside when it is on there.
The plan was to buy a rotisserie but at the moment with business the way it is due to covid I didn't want to blow £350 on one.
Looking on Youtube I saw people have made wooden tip over jigs and thought yep I can do one of those for a lot less.
It's mounted to the sides of the chassis rails at the front and through the rear bumper holes and a big bolt through another hole in the rear panel with packers on the inside. I was a bit concerned about the rear mounting but when I tested it, it did the job perfectly.
I robbed most of the 6x2 from one of my neighbours, who is building an extension, cost a box of beer. I had all the fixings and so only really needed to buy a sheet of 18mm ply for £33.00. Maybe not as flash as a posh rotisserie but it does the job and it is really sturdy and was cheap. :top:

It has allowed me to see and work on the entire underside whilst keeping my back happy. :D

There are loads of areas you should keep cleaned out. This is a real mud / rust trap in the rear arches. Next photo shows it after scraping the mud out.

There are some quite crusty bits but nothing seems to be perforated through. I'll wire brush these areas and assess them.

Wow, I love that idea of using the wooden frame! Definitely doing that if I ever need to do something similar.

It looks like the side skirts are still on in the pic, what are the sills like?

I am expecting mine to be ropey when I finally have the courage to pull the skirts off & check? :Whatever_

No side skirts have been removed. I got 5kg of mud out of them!

Sills looked OK but noe the car is on it's side I can see that they are not as good as I first thought.

Not a lot of progress lately wife has found me another huge job that needs doing for the house :razz:.

I've been stripping some of the old crap off the bottom of the car, it's a slow nasty job but I'm getting there. I don't want to do much more as I'm waiting for some Bilthamber rust stuff and some Acid 8 primer to arrive so I can protect it a bit instead of leaving it as bare metal for too long.

I had a poke around with a screwdriver on the offside sill this morning and it wasn't good!! Lots of really bad rust on the outer sill so I decided to get a replacement panel from a company called Automotive Repair Panels. Hopefully they will get back to me soon.

Meanwhile I wanted to see what it was like behind the outer sill so I decided to cut off the lower rusted part. I didn't realise that it was double skinned and the inner skin was rusty as well. There is also a strengthener between the inner and outer sills. Whilst I was there I may as well have a look in the inner sill so I cut an inspection panel out to check the inner sill and thankfully as long as I can scrape the loose rust off and treat it there is plenty good metal still in there. It may seem like overkill but once done I want this car to last a good few years not disappear into a pile of rust in 5 years.

It was a right mess but I forgot to take pictures so the following pictures are after I'd blown all the loose crap out and dressed the pinch weld back to something like normal.

So with this part of the inner skin removed you can see the strengthener with the big holes through which you can get at the inside if the inner sill. That needs the flaking rust removing and treating with Bilthamber Deox-C and Hydrate 80. Then once everything is finished on the underside and it is Raptored I will lob in some cavity wax for good measure.

I've had a poke around the rest of the car and most of it will be fine once it is wire brushed and treated. One ares around the filler cap may need some welding but I'll wait and see about that.

So just waiting on stuff now before I can do much else.

definitely squirting some dinitrol or bilt hamber into my own sills and rear wheel arches this year

Makes you wonder how much corrosion there really is under there when you consider all the parts you can’t access on a running car.

And nothing so far is overkill (except maybe putting all this effort into a wagon :Whatever_), do it right, do it once.

There seems to be a lot of good products about for rust removal & sealing these days (I guess it coincides with the values of older cars going up & people refreshing them).
