Are people saying that a standard jdm wrx is faster than a standard jdm sti? Doesn't make much sense

Hang on a minute! 1st & 2nd are exactly the same ratios on a JDM 6 speed as a UK / Euro 6 speed. So all 6 speeders are rubbish in 1st and 2nd ?? i would bother trying to argue he is on crack, what do you know about engines and gearboxes anyway david :thumb: |

With respect, much of what you say doesn't come across as either funny or sarcastic, merely stupid and ill-informed. |
Yeah!! OK, maybe we'll all give up and leave him alone.

Not my opinion, don't shoot the messenger, just facts after comparing copious amounts of time-slips/drag race footage. My 330bhp WRX 12.6 fat-thomas 430bhp STI 12.8 My 0-60 foot 1.884 Big Arfs old 700bhp car 0-60 foot 1.986 |
Matt next time you're round specky's with your sooper dooper wrx, drop me a message I want to see how my slow jdm type r fairs against it, will bring my camera to verify how much you leave me by :thumb:

Not much in it stock acceleration wise, at the same power levels - no contest. At increased same power levels - utterly humiliating for the STI.

A stock 240bhp JDM WRX v stock 280bhp JDM STI would certainly be interesting on the track and strip. The short rations are very useful for the heavy STI at these levels. Start increasing power levels and it gets really interesting. Don't forget a JDM WRX has AVCS heads, no up-pipe cat, less weight and a TD04 turbo so out of tight corners it could be f**K*ng sensational. An STI owner will always have to stay ahead of the game though as a 280bhp JDM WRX will skin a stock STI on the track. Power at the wheels, spool and car weight will strongly favour the WRX. It's well known that the 2009 WRX WRX was a bit of an embarrassment for Subaru as it was considerably faster then the 2009 STI, I expect many models through the years were. I also expect the brilliant Newage JDM WRX is still an unknown quantity in 2014 due to STI snobbery and good Subaru marketing.
You have 2 options, buy an STI map it to 350 and pay a few hundred converting to a 5 speed - this is contentious but crucial. This in my experience is like adding 100 shot of NOS. The 6 speed at 450, is heavy, responsible for significant transmission loss and is bordering on unusable in 1st and 2nd gear. (I've posted enough revealing 1/4 times on here to not have to prove it further.) Or buy a JDM WRX and get the aftermarket/STI bits you need to hit 350. I suppose both WRX/STI options require TBE/fuel pump so it just leaves the need for a £300 VF35/VF34 OR £50-100 TD05 and £100 Pinks. No body in their right mind is going to put some crappy non dccd 5 speed in place of the superior 6 speed Joe |

Bit OT, but does it spin in the first 4 gears? I think Tim once told me Brina 2 span in a few of the gears at speed but I think he had the trusty 5 speed.

Joe That's just for my driving style and budget though. Fcuk me don't go out and put a 5 speed in your 410bhp STI. It's just an observation over the years that the 5 speed or equivalent is a bloody good way of cheating. |

I'd like to compare some time Banny, I'm guessing you could push 11's if driving aggressively? |

most standard wrxs run in the 14's and standard stis in the 13's. you need over 400 bhp to get into the 12's in an impreza. |

I have a close ratios Ra 5 speed in my Ra and love it. But there is no denying that the JDM dccd 6 speed I went for is an upgrade

It's frustrating tbh. 5 is great for lights but miserable for rolling starts, It's vice versa with the 6. I read the early wrx? 5 speeds have perfect ratios but I guess they are rusty or hard to find now. |

Without being rude 'Fat Thomas', Maybe you are personally carrying rather more weight than our alien friend.? Just a few kilo's will affect the 60 ft times and an extra passenger will be a liability, more than .2 of a second as well.
