Hey in the same boat, struggled enough with our boy but now a second is on its way. Don't know if its a boy or girl yet though. We have a few girl names. I think boys names are harder too come up with after you rule out all the obvious ones.

I quite like Dylan but don't know if it's just a bit of a hippy name :)

Spot on.

And try and get something that goes with your surname.

Trouble is James Bollox doesn't quite cut it :)

Or Aaron. It's the first name in the baby book. Job done.

With respect why give a child a name with odd spelling so he has to spend his life telling people how to spell it correctly?

Same applies with Nihle mentioned earlier.

Because, whilst sat in the doctors waiting for a pre-natal appointment we heard the doc call Air-on over the tannoy, I thought, feck that at least he can't say Aaren wrong! :thumb: (especially as we are from Bristol!)

Also, if it was to be shortened, guaranteed as that's what kids do, the missus didn't like Aar, so its now shortened to Ren.

LEO-RS has got it spot on!

Jayden and Kayden seem to the Chav names at the moment so avoid those, avoid the top ten, every lad these days is called, Jack, Harry, Oliver, Thomas etc, zero imagination, we went for Alfred for our youngest in 1999 which was unusual then but then there was a crop, well Alfie's actually due to ****ing Alfie Moon in Eastenders.

Eldest is Oscar Vincent, which I think are both great names, you hear of the odd but it is one of those names that doesnt come up that often, usually on dogs :D usually a Schnauzer of some sort, I think Vincent is a great name, Vince, Vinny, Vin, can do a lot with it and hasnt been done to death. Vernon, another one that I quite like, strangely. Another Pulp Fiction option like Vincent is Julius which I quite like.

A mate at works sister called her kid Baxter, ffs, that is soup !

Think it depends on your surname and what initials they end up with, you cant go for a super exitic first name is your Surname is Clegg.

Brett, terrible name, sound slike an eighties DJ

Oliver, lame and middle class, over used.

Graveyards can be a good source of names strangely.

Connor I liked but it has been adopted by the Chavs, loads of little shaven headed chav spawn called Connor now which is a shame, how about Conrad as an alternative ?

Cant call your kid Cameron, good name but again a bit over used and it will maek you sound like a Tory nowadays.

Nieighbour has a little lad called Luca, quite a nice name.

We nearly called one of ours Stanley, think that works well for a little lad, would get called Stan.

Dexster, like that, just says naughty little lad for some reason.

Avoid overly posh names like Hugo, Gabriel, Pascoe, Xavier, Piers as it makes you sound like a ****, though Serge could be good.

Edgar, could be a good one

Brendan, hmm, always sounds like a drunk middle aged Irish bloke

Johnny, not John, like Johnny Cash.

Trent, like the bloke out of Nine Inch Nails and the Rolls Royce Engine, cool.

Ben and Sam, both nice names but not very imaginative and makes the kids sound like a Labrador

Gene, like Gene Hunt, but dont tell him

Mate at work has the surname of Knight so I suggested his lad was Called Jed I, he called him Jacob, boo !

I quite like Scandinavian names like Lars, Magnus and Gunnar

Oldun 14 December 2012 02:08 PM

Arthur... Art
Graham..... Gray
Christopher.....Chris
Michael.....Mike
James....Jim(my)
Thomas....Tom(my)

All good names.

Fat Boy 14 December 2012 03:22 PM

Think of them when they are grown up too - apart from the frankly crap misspelled chav rubbish that they will not thank you for when they are older, parents often give their kids names that seem appropriate when they are tiny little bundles - like Tilly or whatever without thinking of what they will sound like later in life ( all rise - Judge "Tilly" in session !!:) )

Good solid name that can be shortened / and spelt easily when they are kids is good in my books - Thomas James = Tom or Tommy when a kid /prize winning novelist when old sort of thing.

I like Jenson too but the missus won't buy it. Apparently my folks named me after Graham Hill, so we should have a Damon really, also like that name :thumb:

Girlfriends nephew new born is a `Hunter'

Only one iv heard of is that yank writer, apparently you can't move for them across the pond

Frosticles 14 December 2012 04:17 PM

We called our daughter Amelie. This was 10 years ago now. Lovely name and not often heard now. (French version of Emily)

As said, Our boy is James Louie Frost.

A good solid name won't get tortured later in life unlike some of the "Fad" names.

leeds_182 14 December 2012 04:41 PM

My two are called dexter and Luca.

Thankfully I have an Anglo/Saxon (I think or Swedish) last name so my son has a proper power name. :D
