Shame they gained 'chav' rear lights though!

Easily fixed with the correct film from Bluebat overlays:thumb:

One downside is they do attract a bit of unwanted attention. F1 has a passion for all matters Hatch (he is in denial) :lol1:

Nice in the red as well, oh sorry thats a mazda 3 !!

nope seriously its another car shape that has grown on me thru time, does not scream out scooby but not everyone wants that anyway , some prefer the more subtle sports look. I think a lot off folk are dissapointed that subaru have gone for a fairly plain look where as up till now a subaru has been instantly recognisable.

bioforger 14 January 2012 08:29 PM

f1 has a point, how can anyone possibly think this is the best scoob to date, when the most important component, the engine, which makes the car move  has a major design flaw n thus chocolate??? Plus the fact it looks like a fackin smelly turd :cuckoo:

Oh, I agree but they should have left the factory like that!

Don't the new mot changes forbid this now though? Seem to remember reading any film on the lights is now a faliure. I know before it was x amount of light and reflector being visable etc. but it looked a bit more clear cut now. That'd be a pisser!

I do like the hatch though, the practical side is a big attraction to me (hence why I wanted an sti wagon)

As far as I'm aware as long as it still lets 75-80% light through its legal which I believe the blue bat overlays I fitted to mine are & the reflector for the hatch is on the lower valance on the rear, those others are just pointless in the sides maybe just an american thing

Have you driven one for a while ??

Engine didnt bother me when I bought it, but then at the time it was isolated incidents within the US. Good excuse to forge it in my eyes which is what I did. Looks arnt the be all and end all. its all down to personal choice. Life would be boring if we all liked the same things and all acted the same.

We've all had aggressive looking classics, blobeyes etc that appeal to the boy racers but the hatch is for the more sophisticated, mature owner who doesn't want to be seen driving round in a car with a massive rear spoiler or an exhaust tail pipe the size of a dustbin lid. We all grow older and some of us learn to appreciate the technology incorporated into the less visually conspicuous hatch, a technology which leaves previous models floundering way behind.
Having said that, I've owned nothing but Imprezas since the mid 90s and my Sti hatch has attracted more attention when out and about than all the others put together.
As for the engines going pop, I think you'll find that 99% of the failures have either been modified and running 350+ bhp or have been run on low octane fuel such as the rubbish they dish up in the USA.

I have driven a few yes, don't see what the fuss is all about it being something special above n beyond other newage scoobs to be honest.

But anyway it obviously did bother you, as forging it is a major expense, so surely you planned for this cost?

with a few mods it can transform it but I'm slightly biased in my opinion, in std trim it's ok but nothing to write home about.

well to say I never planned for it would be a lie, I was prepared I had built up the engine 6 months before it sh!t a piston out on cylinder 2, so it was ready to just bolt in after a break in Egypt for 2 weeks:thumb:

Gotta say Rob's is a fine example and if I had one it would look like his :)

Rob
what would need to be swapped out other than the pistons if I did buy one and wanted to prevent the engine going pop?
Cheers

That's a dealer myth... I believe most have been standard.

I wouldn't let a 'good friend' buy a standard one....

Seriously going to award you a clear 10/10 for trying Mark, every Hatch topic lol.

Not a dig or anything :thumb: & why not :)

Also i thought the hatch was the ugliest piece of sh!te i had ever seen when it first came out & after owning 2 of them they easily trash the antiques road-show fraternity hands down.

Replacement pistons but you''l need the bores machined to suit in some cases.
I'd also recomend a tweek on the mapping too:thumb:

The std sti was not as bad for blowing as the 330s or ppp map they were bloody appalling

grinch6301 15 January 2012 05:33 PM

Ok, so you wouldn't need to worry about the rods?

Cheers

rob84 15 January 2012 05:36 PM

Rods will be fine up to around 400-420
