i would add rods to it too then think about the power, but why 400 bhp? a 350bhp on a classic make a very fast car and cost effective but for another 50bhp you will need 6 speed, brakes, turbo, added to the list which aint cheap to have it. just aim for a 350 and build your engine to be reliable. thanks mate i pass that onto him hes a credited technician for suzki but only been working on his scooby for about 3 months so still learning :thumb: |

i'd budget to replace that chocolate 752 gearbox if you're planning to run 300+ tbh.
Power wise, as plenty have said on here, your wrx lump will take a dump once you start heading over 350bhp. 2k budget, i'd go for the following VF34 FMIC Harvey headers and up pipe panel filter Walbro pump or similar 3 port boost solenoid Upgrade to a 754 box from a newage decent clutch/flywheel cambelt change, gaskets etc. remap via esl or simtek That should see 330-350 and some sort of reliability. It's an OLD standard WRX engine, anything over 300bhp is on borrowed time in my opinion. |
He needs to lower his sights a bit as above, 350 will be ample unless he fancies spending £10k.
I'd go a slightly simpler and cheaper route if i were your bro, get a newage jdm sti bottom end, can be had for around £1k, new gaskets bolt on a set of v3/v4 sti heads and jobs a good un, that lot plus gaskets should come in on budget and be good for 450 bhp without issue. :thumb: |

Why 400bhp? why not 350? dont see the point in chasing big numbers, a classic is only 1235kg and with 300-320 is an awesome road car and reliable. If it was me i would rebuild and upgrade with a goal of 320bhp using decent parts
