how did this turn out?
With my steering wheel being in great condition, they advised keeping it OE (RB being limited and all) and buying a second wheel to get trimmed! So this is what i'm going to do, currently on the look out for a MY07 STi wheel. Don't need the airbag & horn! |
there is one one pistonheads fella, just the wheel no airbag or clockspring etc.

That looks very tidy, tempted to buy a knackered old Sparco/OMP wheel and get it done myself:norty:

Alcantara won't last long, seen a chaps LP570-4 the other week and it only had 4k on the clock and the steering wheel looked like it had been in a fight.
I wanted to do it to the S204 and R205, but didn't bother in the end. |
As has been said, Alcantara is very poor at wear.
After a short while you end up with a smooth, shiny and slippery steering wheel. Alcantara/suede is great for a track car if you wear gloves as it offers great grip, without actually having to 'grip' the steering wheel IFSWIM. Soft leather is the answer for a road car. |

No it isn't.
Have a look inside a Gallardo that is 5 years old. Scrap is the word that springs to mind. |

Having owned my RB for almost 5 years & it's always been my daily runner, the Alcantara seats are still looking great!
If the steering wheel lasts 18 - 24 months, I'll be more than happy. For the actual feel of it, I wouldn't mind re-trimming it every couple of years! It would be worth it. But I think it'll last longer than that... |
What were the details for the soft leather trimmed wheels? Really quite fancy this for my type r
