All things being equal you would be a bit worried if you couldn't better a standard Rover Vitesse in a current spec Scoob! Let's hope it makes it round the circuit without blowing it's load! :D It's stands a chance if a Rover managed it!

I thought it sounded like a breeze on the face of it too but when you look into the rover it's not a bad engine, honda 2.7 v6. According to Graham it had 240bhp and weighed only 1100kg (although stock figures I can find and 165bhp and 1450kg?). If is was the case I'd imagine there won't be too much in it, a lot of the average has to obviously be ramped up on the high speed stuff and the rover looks quite slippery.

Given the nature of the long held flat sections I think I'd put more faith in a Honda engine

I guess the impreza will make up some time on the exits from the slower stuff at least.

good luck on the attempt - will be v.interesting to see the outcome

there aint that much slow stuff on the course compared to the seriously fast stuff. going across that mountain at 150mph with only a wire fence between you and a serious drop of the side of the mountain is hairy stuff! i cant imagine what its like on a bike going 170+!!!

wish i was back there :( TT fortnight is something else!

I wasn't specifically thinking about the engine / power..... more the chassis differences tbh.

If the Impreza does not beat it we will all be buying the Vitesse! :D

EngineMapper @ Group B Motorsport 04 June 2011 06:59 PM

The Subaru is 20 years younger, I think however it has a disadvantage in power and weight, but the benefits are much newer chassis, suspension and tyre technology as well as a definate benefit in grip with the 4 wheel drive dccd system it has.

I'm very excited to see it attempted. The Subaru is a stunning car to look at and an excellent drive, so I think it favours the brave really!

I think the rover had uprated antiroll bars and it def ran on slicks.
will the sti use slicks or road tyres ? :Suspiciou

Shaun 04 June 2011 08:49 PM

Sorry.... I thought the Vitesse was standard. Perhaps it won't be straight forward then! lol

terzoscooby 04 June 2011 11:23 PM

I have a vague recollection that it was Tony's party piece and a lot of practice went into the run. Still Mark has local knowledge to! Can't wait to see the footage. Why did David pull out?

Pidsy 06 June 2011 03:26 PM

practice laps today and the "fast lap" on thursday?

You would think it was an easy walkover, but we think, (from careful calculation), that Tony Pond and his rover had 240bhp and 1100kg. The Subaru I think weighs approx 1500kg and only has 60bhp more in factory trim! Don't forget the drivetrain power losses. Still think it's an easy one?

Graham

Your joking - right?

Maybe it's just been dropped off somewhere in Devon for a clean with Gunk and a hosepipe?:norty: Having said that, I guess RCM are a tad closer to the IOM!

Heard it from Subaru uk's twitter feed.

Lateral Performance 06 June 2011 06:38 PM

Just had a call with Stuart (TEG), and that was the first lap in the car !!!

They are allowed the race fuel, and a remap, and one or two other "safety" related things, and given the picture, it's hardly surprising

That picture is terrific..............

Anders_WR1 06 June 2011 06:54 PM

Apparently Subaru are doing this for three years :thumb:

I wonder if the TT circuit will be the new Nuremberg with Nissan, Porsche etc bringing their cars to set fastest laps :D

juggers 06 June 2011 06:57 PM

Doubt it'll be the next Nurburgring, 15 miles of pure bliss ;) how can you top that?

Have I missed what the whole point of this is ?
I dont care how good the rover was 20 years ago
A purpose build Subaru should Absolutly walk it 20 years on
I've prob missed the point have I ?
Sorry if I sound like being funny as I'm not.
Cheers mick

EngineMapper @ Group B Motorsport 06 June 2011 07:13 PM

Absolutely cracking result by Teg Sport and Mark Higgins! 116mph average at the first split, 122.4mph at the second split and an overal 113.5mph, speed trapped at 158.6mph top speed by the sounds of it. Insane!

Chuffed
:thumb:

And more laps to go!

Graham
