Andy, you wont be the first to add a set of injectors at the inlet just where the fuel injectors go i.e. 1 injector per cylinder.

Running it with the MF2 driver and mapping it this way would be spot on http://www.scoobynet.co.uk/bbs/images/icons/icon14.gif

P'raps you need a day at Star to see what your doing ??

Just for curiousity Andy, what happens when you run out of water ?? Does the boost get lowered, timing altered ?? or does it still run the same boost etc

Cosie Convert 24 April 2002 12:54 AM

Rich, I'm nearly there ! I've got 3 additional injectors in the plenum !!!

I agree the ERL controller would do a great job of this. If I was serious about tuning my scoob I would look into that system. I'm just playing really ;)

I'll be on the rollers for the first time on Sunday at Star  of course I'll be winding down the boost just to keep Sam happy ;)

My current water injection system has a pressure switch which triggers a lamp when it's up to pressure. It's up to me to keep an eye on it ! I am going to link it to a boost control valve which will drop 3 - 4 psi boost if pressure falls. That's todays plan anyway  having said that I'll probably sell it shortly...... I fancy a TT Supra to toy with :)

Richie1 24 April 2002 08:25 AM

Sound good CC,

Talking about the failsafe, have a look at this page on Aquamist site as it has a couple of things you may be interested in ;) - http://www.aquamist.co.uk/preview.html

Shame I cant make it on Sunday as I am working but post the results up on the Scottish forum or somewhere so I can look. I am on till 10 pm so I need something to stop the boredom :(

Are you up for breaking the 10 second barrier then ?? ;)

Cosie Convert 24 April 2002 09:02 AM

Not with this car, having said that, I never thought I would get in the 11's with it a month ago so never say never ;)
Too expensive to make a scoob go 'really' fast !!

Sam Elassar 24 April 2002 02:12 PM

thanks andy for keeping me happy, but what is the point? it will really be interesting to know what kind of power figures (power/weight)the car is running when produced 11.8secs. my plan this year is to make it to the low 12s but 11 that is a completely different ball game.

are you going to take this car on track at all before you sell it!?

sam

David_Wallis 24 April 2002 03:26 PM

Dont you dare sell it... Who will I get my inspiration, Ideas and Advice from :)

David
AKA Cossieconvert wanna be (Well 2bar boost at least!)

Cosie Convert 24 April 2002 11:25 PM

Sam, You don't need me to keep U happy :D :D

I'm currently struggling to get my water jacketed intercooler ready for Sunday at Star, the delay is getting the radiator supplied and installed.
I will be there though !! I may only get it half done and just recirculate water through the cooler, I'll run lower boost on the first run (way down about 19psi :D) and if charge temps are ok I'll try it at Dragstrip boost setting :)
Once the rad is in and working it will get a Knockhill thrash. When you going on hol ;) :D :D

Bruiser.STi 09 August 2002 12:22 PM

ANdy- Just the standard springs and shocks in the car?? If you don't wanna divulge please send an e-mail...

Cheers

Andy, how fast is your '95 RA now, since your recent mods? Also, who has the fastest Impreza in the UK?

Especially with cars and drag strip times, us US guys like to pull out our weenies and compare to see who's is biggest. I'd like to compare US Imprezas with UK's, and see how big your weenies are accross the pond.:D

TonyBurns 02 September 2002 10:20 AM

Andy's car was rated at 391bhp, 305bhp@wheels :D (on a warm day!! )
1/4 mile time was just over 11 secs, 9.3 or something like that to 100mph :D

Tony:D

WREXY 02 September 2002 12:09 PM

Hi Andy

Excellent stuff m8.

With a weight of 1275kg or 2810lbs including driver, at 115mph 1/4 mile, my Moroso power speed calculator says 340hp. But that would be an unrealistic perfect run, taking into account perfect takeoff traction, wind ,etc

Cheers,

Wrexy.

Pavlo 02 September 2002 03:38 PM

Andy's car is more like 1150 without driver, say 80kg driver, not sure if it includes fuel, possibly half a tank.

Is that HP estimate at the wheels? I suspect so.

paul

Mad4it 02 September 2002 03:57 PM

Sorry to piss on your spark plugs, but I seriously doubt the time that your have done.

Crail has always been a lot quicker than other tracks, I.E Santa Pod and is not a recognised quarter mile track.

However, there is a 10 of the Best 2 in October, in York, and that will give you a good indication of what time your car can do.

Well done to your acheivement anyway.

Andy.F 02 September 2002 04:14 PM

Ooh that's strange Mad4it ? cos when Streetfighter magazine ran their tasty bikes at the 'new' Crail track they couldn't match their York times never mind Santa Pod :D :D :D

Annointed - I really need a decent clutch to use the torque off the line but i've ran 11.7 @ 118 mph.
305 bhp at the wheels may be common place in the USA however on our rolling roads over here a std MY00 will make approx 125 at the wheels............so we may not have the fastest cars but we got the toughest dyno's :D :D

Pavlo 02 September 2002 04:22 PM

I am still having trouble trying to recognise 1/4 Miles, have you seen him? Maybe he was disguised as 402.2325metres?

Elvington was run over 500 initially, but 1/4 mile next time.

GO ON ANDY! You know it makes sense.

Perhaps you can post the time slip again...

paul

Mad4it 02 September 2002 04:44 PM

Andy - York is not a quick track, as they generally dont use a gripping agent, but when it has been hot for a week, and no rain, some quick times can be produced.

Crail - I know of lots of cars that have run quick times at Crail, but when they go to Santa Pod, they are somtimes upto 2 seconds slower.

I dont want to upset anybody, but I dont beleive that only spedning 1k on a Subaru Impreza with those injectors will run a genuine 11 second run.

To run any 4wd car into the 11's, will require somewhere in the region of 375bhp + at the flywheel, 325 + bhp at the wheels, running 1.6 bar + with 550cc + injectors.

I appreciate that some may dissagree with the above figures, but if we look at the following times, this may shed some light -

Quickest 4 x 4 Escort Cossie - 11.5 @ 125mph, running 2.2bar with 8 Injectors, 550bhp.

Quickest GTiR - 11.7 @ 124 mph bhp, 450 bhp running 1.8 bar with 550c injectors, uprated fuel pump and uprated fuel pressure regulator.

Quickest Evo (that I have seen) - 12.4 at 116mph, running 1.6 bar, with 380bhp

To run a car into the 11's is extremely hard, and the car has to be extremely powerful.

All of the above were done at Santa Pod.

Mo 02 September 2002 05:09 PM

Mad4IT,

may I suggest you use the search facility to investigate Andys RA. He may only have spent £1k on parts but the development he has put into it is enormous and may I say a little unconventioanl :D

Mad4it 02 September 2002 05:24 PM

I can see the spec, and can say that it is impressive, but I still dont beleive that the car would run as quick a time at Santa Pod.

I don't mean to disrepsect the owner, and his acheivement, as the car is impressive, but there are too many factors in my opinion that are pointing towards the time being a little generous.

I am lucky, as my last car had run 11's several times, so I can speak from experience, but I am sticking by my guns, and saying that 11.8 @ 115mph seems a little generous, especially as the Type RA's have low ratio gearing, and would mean an extra gear change.

LG John 02 September 2002 06:00 PM

If you'd been in andy's car you might think otherwise. The acceleration is pretty savage and is enough to to affect your breathing....until you get used to it :D

I've ran a 15.3 at Crail when I had my standard VTS and this was fairly consistent with standard VTS and 106 GTi times through the countries 1/4 mile tracks. Andy's car is quite easily 3.5-4 seconds quicker than the VTS was.

There is no way crail could be any where near 2 seconds out as that would be a huge inaccuracy!! Hell, you could do a more accurate 1/4 mile watching the odometer and counting 'mississippis' in your head :ekk:

Mad4it 02 September 2002 06:12 PM

Wouldn't life be boring if we all had the same opinions.

Topic closed for me know.

Dougster 02 September 2002 06:15 PM

Has a go then runs away! Typical.

Mad4it 02 September 2002 06:27 PM

I beleive that my comments were valid, but as everybody seems to know more than me when it comes to racing a car into the 11 seconds over a quarter mile, then I really cant be bothered to continue with this thread.

Its not a personal thing, just my opinion from experience, so if someone has something to say that interestes me, or I think is a valid point about the topic, I am happy to listen.

LG John 02 September 2002 07:06 PM

I think it's best to leave andy to defend his own car, he knows what its got, what's been done to it and he's got one of them funfangled performance meter things that might help back up his claims.

ustolemyname??stevieturbo 02 September 2002 07:54 PM

It is very impressive, but he seems to have the evidence to back it up. Where does the extra gearchange come from?? Id imagine he is crossing the line in 4th, what gear do you think he is using?
The one thing I would be more suspect of, is the terminal speed, which does seem high, although I think there are different ways of measuring this at the end of a qtr.
He has the timing slip, his car does make good power, are you laying down a challenge Mad4it??

annointed 02 September 2002 08:01 PM

I notice several of you like to say bhp (brake horsepower) AT THE WHEELS...technically, isn't this a contradiction?

I always understood bhp to = flywheel horsepower, which means saying "bhp at the flywheel" is redundant, and saying "bhp at the wheels" is self-contradictory.

Have I been wrong all my life, or what?;)

john banks 02 September 2002 10:25 PM

Extra evidence in the form of Andy being able to pass me with ease in a straight line, and my car during comparisons today is obviously quicker than a decatted and remapped P1 running 19 PSI. We have datalogged our gearchanges and mine are no worse than his (although he is on a different planet for cornering).

I have been on track with Skylines whilst my car was in a lower state of tune and pulled away from them, and nothing else has gone past as quickly as Andy's RA.

Andy.F 02 September 2002 10:29 PM

Mad4it, it's not that we all know better ;) it's that we don't perhaps know as little as you think we do :D

My last road car (below) could run 9.4 dead at Crail, at York it ran 9.34 I put this down to the better surface at York to launch a 2wd car. This car ran 144mph through the beams at York. At Crail, in its new owners hands it's only running 132mph

http://upload.turbosport.co.uk/getpi...2331336358.JPG

What times would a dyno proven 550bhp / 480 torque R33 skyline produce at the pod as a matter of interest....assuming it was pulling 1.7s 60' times ????

Oh, by the way, the 11.87 @115 was before the latest mods bringing it to 11.7 @ 118 :)

Pav - On holiday last 2 wks in Oct sadly :( My AP22 (which I swear by) showed 13.6 @ 125 for the 500 metres

Steve/Mad Yes I'm into 5th with about 100 yds still to run !!!

[Edited by Andy.F - 9/2/2002 10:43:18 PM]

Mad4it 02 September 2002 10:50 PM

Well, what can I say.

I still think that Santa Pod is the only recognised place to claim accurate quarter mile figures, but even their timing gear f***'s up occasionally.

I am certainly not laying up any challenge, and respect what the car has done.

When I do race the car, and if I do get a quick time, I will also shout out about it, but until then, I will keep my trap shut.

There is enough evidence to proove the car is truly awesome, and one of the quickest, if not the quickest Scooby's in the U.K, so respect to that man with the 6 injectors.

Whilst we are on the topic of bhp, what bhp do you reckon we have?

1.5 bar on HKS 500 Turbo, running 440cc injectors flat out, tubular manifold, Apex fuel and boost controllers and uprated fuel pump regulator?

Mad4it 02 September 2002 11:11 PM

Lol, cant help you with the quarter mile time, and the weight is standard for a Type R STi IV.

Im a bit thick, what's a AP22? I saw the results of the 500metre, and did notice your run.

Am I right in saying it is a Legacy with 2.2 litre lump?

I am not sure if you know him, but Dave from DP Motorsport was at the event, in one of his customers GTiR's, which run around 13.4/13.6, but after the 3.30 deadline.

He built my last car (GTiR) for me, and has setup the new Scooby for us.
