JonMC, tbh, the tumbler delete mod was a bit of a necessity, fuel lines etc would not fit with the tumbler valves etc in the way. The bloke who did it, said there is no benefit in additional porting. As for if it's true or not, I can't personally say.
Still got a niggling fuel smell, took off IC and loosened the intake manifold, to get a better look at the Y piece underneath the mani. Can't see any "fuel", but can smell it, one of the AN-6 connectors looked a little off round, so I took that line off, and am in the process of fitting a new connector. With a little luck, that was the culprit, and my fuel pressure will hold longer, and wont have any fuel smell in the car. Will post an update later on tonight. |
No more fuel leaks, and holds pressure like a charm. Off round fitting was the culprit apparently.
Sorry for not posting any pics, but wouldn't you know it my cameras battery decided to die when I was about to start taking pictures... (Reminder to self, don't leave camera in the car at -20C, battery does not like it :D) First 600 or so miles of running in done, inc oil & filter changes etc, still runs well enough. Got my Perrin FMIC to fit, as well as tweak the intake a little, to allow fitment of the FMIC, then its time to start mapping... Will, try my damnest to get some pics of the FMIC fitting etc. |
Howz the car going mate? Any updates?
|
Its going, but at a snails pace, been so busy with everything else of late.
FMIC is in, but its not quite perfect, needs some fettling still. Not happy with the intake either, needs redoing. If only I had the time, or the cash :P Will try to take some in progress pics ASAP. |
Cool. Know your pain with lack of free time and funds. Lol
|
It's 90% there, finishing these projects seems the hard bit! Keep up the good work, looks amazing.
I have the start of a project in my garage - a '99 wrx missing its engine, just need time and money to "have a go"! Looking forward to some more photos and seeing the results. Keep up the good work! Chris |
Still moving far too slowly, been too busy working.
Shedload of parts waiting to be installed though, Surge Tank, New Rails, Injectors, Sparkplugs, and camber bolts all need to go in, not to mention the FMIC still needs work done to it before its perfect. That said, I do have a tiny update. Rota SVN's were painted black and fitted with 255/35/R18 Ultrac Sessantas', good tires so far. http://www.flickr.com/photos/disodisp/7135448533/http://www.flickr.com/photos/disodisp/7135448533/ by http://www.flickr.com/people/disodisp/, on Flickr Hopefully I'll have everything fitted, and mapped by the end of the month. Would like to have the car dyno'd too before the snow starts falling again :P |
Looking good! Cant beat black wheels! :)
|
OK, got a lot done, but didn't take any pictures.. (sadly)
Took a crappy iPhone pic of the engine bay afterwards though, will try to get some proper pics in the near future. Fitted: New Fuel Rails, New Injectors, New Spark Plugs, Re-Painted the FMIC piping, fitted the swirl pot with Dual Walbro 255 pumps, and remade all the fuel lines. Now its running its first tank of E85, and am slowly (read very slowly) mapping it for the stuff. http://www.flickr.com/photos/disodisp/7244674908/http://www.flickr.com/photos/disodisp/7244674908/ by http://www.flickr.com/people/disodisp/, on Flickr |
Progress at last, first full on WOT pull in 3rd gear.
Squeaky bum time, but nothing broke, even though I did slightly overboost and AFRs aren't quite right as of yet, but its getting better. A quick virtual dyno log shows it has potential, remember its not got a lot of timing to keep the safe. http://www.flickr.com/photos/disodisp/7272414894/http://www.flickr.com/photos/disodisp/7272414894/ by http://www.flickr.com/people/disodisp/, on Flickr Quietly optimistic? ;) |
Very nice.

Have completely forgot about this thread, time to post whats been done since the last update:

Can't hear anything personally, so I think it's ghosting. Still, will be good to have a visual and audible alarm in the cabin, especially on the track. Got a chance to flash Launch Control and Flat Foot Shifting to the stock ECU, a quick vid of testing the LC: 5k rpm. and 0.5Bar boost stationary: (Iphone vid, not great) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AY-xG...ature=youtu.be |
Nice work! Good progress again.
|
Thanks, now I just need to find the time to install all those bits and bobs, with any luck the brakes should be going in before the weekend.
|
Shouldnt 2,5 hit 1 bar a lot earlier?
|
the AFR's on that run weren't exactly great for spool up, nor was the AVCS tuned for, and with very little advance.
At the moment I'm getting 1 bar at about 3000 - 3100rpm. It's still a work in progress ;) |
Quick update.
Had the car on the dyno a few weeks back. http://www.flickr.com/photos/disodisp/8038592273/http://www.flickr.com/photos/disodisp/8038592273/ by http://www.flickr.com/people/disodisp/, on Flickr 469/466 on the rollers, 4th gear run, with mild AVCS and V-Power Ignition timing. AFR's were around 11.3:1 The graph scaling is wrong. I reckon a more agressive IGN timing (E85) and slightly more AVCS should give it a little more power. That said, pretty pleased with the result, regardless. |
Nice work!

The car's been through a LOT since my last posts on here.
Spark plug failed, took out the engine, caught fire too, so that was fun. New engine, new turbo, new everything, will keep you posted on dyno numbers etc, but going for +600. Will keep this thread updated once the car is up and running and on the dyno. |
Awesome spec there:thumb:
Borg&Warner EFR I've run too on our 2.35L,wish we've went with B&W,seems is great turbo and about the GSC cams, that strange, friend running them at high 600bhp on his 2.35L and he is happy with them Did you investigate why they failed? We run on our Kelford V2-199-C cams which has been awesome Yes this is very optimistic graph, what ECU do you running? You are still on the OE ECU? I've tried few times VD and my results has been very optimistic, with NOS and 2.1L with MDX321T we are made 803HP,which is simply not possible :lol1: Good luck with rest matey and looking like awesome spec :thumb: Thanks,Jura |
Thanks Jura :thumb:
Still on the OEM ecu, running Speed Density Mod, at some point I'd like to run an aftermarket ECU, just need time to learn how to map it, and funds to actually buy it. As for the cams, its fairly common for them to fail, GSC S1's especially. There's a whole thread on NASIOC about Kelford and GSC cam failures. Which isn't really a surprise, almost every manufacturer uses the same chinese chill cast cam blanks. I've even got their supplier and prices per cam blank set direct from China, but GSC denies it and won't refund anything for the failed cams. I'm hoping its a Quality Control issue at GSC, and my Lateral cams will be fine, time will tell. |

If you are still on OEM ECU,then you are running nice numbers, aftermarket ECU will only help you,but if you are don't need to run,why go with aftermarket I would only choose Syvecs S6,if you understand how it works, then is easy to map, have look on the Syvecs forum My friend running S2 and one friend running S3 without the issue on their cars and about the Kelford, people mostly using them over here without the issue and I would choose them,if its budget then Cosworth, but Kelford are still great cams Thanks,Jura |
Very nice, tidy job of the reversed inlet to keep the aircon although it is just extra weight:D
|
Thanks Jon, hah it's my daily driver, need the aircon :)
|
keep forgetting to update this thread.
New Lateral Race Spec cams, and back on the road. New Link G4+ Plugin ECU. Head gasket issues once again, so the engine is coming out (once again) Managed to get a few pulls on VD while tuning though. https://farm3.staticflickr.com/2908/...29d12832_c.jpguusinmetric by DisoDisp, on Flickr Actual numbers still to come once we're able to keep the headgaskets whole :) |
WOW.
|
I'm sure VD is being optimistic :)
But lets say it definately has over 600 real horsepower. Dying to get it onto a DynoDynamics, but it has a habit of blowing the HG before we get the tune finalized. |
Awesome!! just spend over an hour reading this and fair play it was worth it!!

Headgaskets went on the dyno at just 2bar and really mild timing, would've been nice to see what it would've given this time. This, even with 14mm headstuds, oh well, back to the drawing board. |
Bugger.
