I love my Panny Viera plasma. Do you need HD? I hadn't planned on getting SKY HD so got the plasma with 720p resolution and it's great on my 360 with an HDMI cable...even the component cable was really good.
As stated...have a look on AV forums.
It can come down to your viewing distance apparently. You don't want to be too close for a certain size of screen etc.

Worth a read.

Also..depending where you are...John Lewis do a price match and 5 yr warranty. You can sometimes find the TV cheaper in the likes of Richer Sounds etc

Actually... Does "HD Ready" mean its an actual HD TV?

HD ready as i understand it means that it will accept a full HD signal but it will down scale it to fit the resolution of your screen.

HD Ready tends to mean 720p resolution screen

Full HD tends to refer to the screen being able to do 720p, 1080i and 1080p

If I was buying now it would be a panny plasma.

It does not say if it is 768p or 1080p. 720p is the present normal HD standard from the BBC but 1080p is better with many more pixels and will give you a better quality picture on non HD pictures as well. I have found that with my Panny 42 inch plasma and a non HD picture is not far short of a 720 HD picture as well.

If you have the choice it is worth getting a 1080p set. More future proof too.

To be honest, my main use of this is going to be for the xbox... so would a 1080p set not be abit overkill?

Wont be using it for HD TV/SKY etc

ScoobyJawa 26 October 2010 12:56 PM

HD Ready = 720p
Full HD = 1080p

My 50" Panny Viera is HD Ready because the distance I view it at I would not see any benefit of 1080p and I'd be paying double the cost! Plus I have a 1080p Projector onto a 105" screen :D

Had an LG before that in between my original Panny SD plasma and the one I have now and it was atrocious - loud buzz and ghosted really badly, would not own another.

Got the folks a 46" G15 1080p Panny with Freesat HD built in from Costco (bargain place for tellys and come with 5 year warranty) and the picture on that is awesome.

Get a 1080p set. don't limit yourself IMO. They are the mainstream now.

Be careful with very reflective screens, B.I.L recently bought a LG LED and finds the reflections in daylight very annoying.

I don't think the xbox puts out any games over 720p

So a 720p set will do, although nowadays i would recommend a 1080p one to future proof it.

The 720p Samsung i bought about 4 years back was always going to be a place holder in the living room, until the 1080p sets came down in price.

Nowadays i would just suggest the 1080p set from the beginning.
