Was that the two-stick robot shooting game that had (I thought at the time) really cool synthesised speech? Awesome if so. When I left school @ 16, I got a part time job and spent the rest of my life in an arcade with a mate who went on to be a game programmer. Used to play Track n Field all day for 10p as the difficulty resets.

I still remember the original V Rally fondly - even though there's been tons of rally games since.....and we could do with a new rally game, they all seem to be aimed towards the "totally gnarly dude" American extreme sports market now.

Oh man, been getting all nostalgic looking at this site:

http://www.retrogames.co.uk/

So many great games on there.

Can't believe some of the prices for old amiga games. My Alien Breed collection is going for £44 on there! I thought it would be worth nothing now.

I saw one game (Shadow of the beast III) up for £50!

I wasted hours on those 2 and would love to play them again.

I've still got the fully working 3DO and both those games, switched it on about 6 months ago for a laugh and tried some Road Rash. It's still really good fun. I also played the full campaign on Wing Comander 4 on this system, not sure that one has aged so well though.

How about an updated version of Speedball 2 on the Amiga, the violence was fantastic.

It'd be good, but I think we'll have to settle for the Xbox Live version for now.

BurgerKing 27 July 2010 02:38 PM

I knew that you got more benefits with Xbox Live, didn't realise it went as far as cool old Amiga classics. I used to love Bitmap Brothers games. The Playstation network doesn't have any good stuff like that, I did download Oddworld: Abe's Odyssey from there though (looks crap, plays well).

Ant 27 July 2010 02:42 PM

Abes odyessey ! Loved that game

I still have mine in the loft. But I must admit I loved playing zelda.

Mr.P has his amstrad up there too, but that's just a little before my time.
That or we were just to poor to have anything back then.

I'd like to see Gauntlet remade with option for online players to select different characters but in "1st person-shoot'em up" format. Also should have characters other than elf, valkarie, thor and wizard with different strengths and weaknesses.

ScoobyJawa 27 July 2010 03:56 PM

I stuck soooooo much money into the Gauntlet machine in my local leisure centre - loved it!

They did redo it and called it Gauntlet: Dark Legacy on the Xbox, but just didn't "feel" the same.

Blimey, this thread is dredging em up! Bitmap Brothers did CHAOS ENGINE did they not? Loved that. And I've just remembered Cannon Fodder. That too was ace.

Trouble with a lot of the retro stuff on XBL though - you remember it fondly, you pay £8 or whatever to download it, and ten minutes later, you're realising that gaming has moved on a veeery long way in twenty five years or so and you're a teeny bit bored.....

hoskib 27 July 2010 06:42 PM

Doom

and an updated version of Nuclear Strike would be great (apologies if it's already been done, still stuck with a PS2  )

belliott69 27 July 2010 07:12 PM

how have i missed this thread before seeing as i'm a sad git and has nearly collected all major consoles fromt he sega master system on. theres is so many games i want reworked, mario kart from the snes and n64, as others have said goldeneye as its the best multiplayer ever, ecco the dolphin, crazy taxi, but max payne off the ps2 is the game i really want remade, i wasted hours and hours on that game wasteing people as a kid. theres loads of others but there the main ones i'd like to see.

Thats a great site, brings back some memories.

I would like to see Chase HQ re-made from my Spectrum days.

Duke...............Nukem. Best ever 1st person. Loved the vulgarity!
Robocop vs terminator on mega drive, loved that game.
I agree Doom needs a good remake onto the ps3/xbox.

Postal 2 gives me my 'Duke Nukem' fix. It is wonderfully sick and twisted.

Postal 3 is on the way and should be released in the next month or so (although unfortunately they have swapped to third person).

I remember buying Ecco the Dolphin on the Megadrive, it was impossible to get hold of when it was first released, got my copy in Dixons, got told by the sales man they were only getting one copy delivered such was demand, and I waited outside for the store and got it as soon as it was delivered, remember feeling smug as the booy in the queue behind me wanted the same game and I got the only copy.
These days stores would have hundreds of copies on release day

CAT2 28 July 2010 12:17 PM

@ Mart360 - Cheers, guess they'd kind of got melded together in my head. I loved Robotron in the arcade, mad sound effects. But Defender surely had the best old school arcade soundtrack. Could never play it for toffee though.

Tom87 28 July 2010 12:32 PM

Gotta be Destruction Derby, Metal Gear Solid 1, Streets of Rage and does anyone remember Vigilante 8? Such a stupidly fun game! :luxhello:

bish667 28 July 2010 12:57 PM

I dont understand why they dont remake certain games, destruction derby was brilliant in its day and must have made a lot of money, why hasnt anyone redone a game of that genre?
There has been a couple that have been racing with bonuses for damage like 'Flatout Ultimate Carnage' but that wasnt done very good IMO.

I loved Space Hulk on the PS1 too.

Was that the game with the cars and you had to blow eachother up? If it was I loved it! if you pressed the weapons buttons in a certain sequence you got better damage! Hours of fun! :)

Bloody hell, that's going back a bit! I rinsed Chuckie Egg when I was about 12! Was that on the Spectrum? It's all a bit blurred now. The best game I've played as a chicken ever....
