watch programs like police camera action etc, i see more older generation having accidents making mistakes and having accidents. The trade policy i have covers me fully comp on any vehicle. My sccob and van are declared as my personal cars which have mods declared an had a insurance assessor out to value the scoob. I added on imports to be allowed to dive the scoob, im classed as a part time trader also. What do you class as experince then age? What about an older person that does 50 miles per week as a posed to a younger driver that does a 1000 miles per week? The new driving tests involve a lot more they are longer and less room to make mistakes and how do you know i wouldnt pass? Some younger drivers do act like that but you see that with any driver typically older busniess men on motorways even flashing you out of the way whist sat 3" off the back of your bumper. I stick to the speed limits as they are there for a reason. What do you class as experience then, you do see trucks pulling out but have you ever tried getting a 40tonne truck out of a junction when the roads are busy? It takes more than you actually think and you say you had a hard driving test try taking your hgv test. This is sterotypical of older generation against younger generation granted there are a lot of idiots out there but that comes in the form of any age, i see a lot on the roads and it isnt just younger drivers having accidents, when was the last time you saw a modified car crashed at the side of the road? I would say around 70% of accidents a see are the older generation.

Cor some major prejudice going on here... Tony you clearly have an issue with the younger generation of drivers! lol
you cant class all younger driver as just silly and irresponsible that's just unfair... do you think i would spend 10k and then another 2.5k just to drive my car around like a loon and crash it? i would be majorly out of pocket and screwed insurance wise for life! some of us 'young' drivers actually have respect on the road and appreciated a time and a place to have the odd SAFE blast. Just my input on that front where not all Saxo, 19", cut spring loving fools! |
not all young drivers are idiots tony. Its not like ive got no experience of quick cars as ive owned them. Also drive a works van every day aswell so really never off the road as allways driving.
Young idiot drivers own saxo's , 106 gti's Ive spent nearly 4.5 grand on the focus on power mods, handling etc etc, really think going drive it round like a idiot to just bin it and waste all that money? usally find young drivers who try race u or drive like cocks are the one's who think need prove something as they got a **** car. |
I paid around £1800 to insure a UK Turbo third party when I was 20. When I was 21 I was getting quoted around the same IIRC to change over fully comprehensive to a standard Newage Sti with the prodrive pack. That was a big drop. Insurers generally take into account previous experience with similar cars.
It also on the variables like what kind of record you have and where you live, etc. I just happened to live in a low risk area and luckily had kept a clean license and insurance record. But £3000 definitely sounds excessive. Your cash though, and if you have it and want to spend it on that then who's anyone to say otherwise. |

I just worked hard and paid for it because I wanted the enjoyment. If people want to moan about you then let them, it's their problem. |
We have all been there, you keep saying about experience and mentioning mileage, that has nothing to do with it, doing 1k miles of motorway is boring and m/ways are the easiest roads to drive on.
Anyway, just as an example to you, here ya go ;) Guy 1 is 20, he makes lurrrrrrrve to 5 women a week, he thinks he is great and really good, a real stud, but never thinks about the woman. Guy 2 is 30, he makes love to 1 woman a week, he talks to her to find out what she likes and she pulls herself off the ceiling after every session. Do you understand yet? ;) Tony:D |

Guy 1 sounds spot on to be honest. :D
Not the best arguement Tony. Lol, there will be 'guy 1s' that have all 5 women pulling themselves off the ceiling and there will be 'guy 2s' who sleep with the same woman every night and bore her to tears. Are you sure you're not just trying to make yourself feel better about being an old codger? :D |

i dont just do motorway mileage, so answer my question what is experience in the eyes of a "more experienced" driver? Comparing women with cars isnt a very good comparison. I understand what you are sayin but you are stereotyping younger drivers according to statistics which load of crap.

I see your point but i know im a hell alot better driver than alot of people on the road. Just because we young doesn't mean we are crap drivers. END OF.
anyway back to my question, Does anyone know how much does keith michaels charge for a re map, is there a fixed fee? Then adding the PPP, added less, and the brakes added about 20 quid, silly really but young driver, grp 20 car etc (i was 30 at the time, driving 10 years, lots of performance cars etc) Tony:) |

It wont be fixed, its no doubt done on a case to case basis, I remember replacing the wheels on my first subaru with 17 inch Prodrive items, added £500 quid to the policy  Then adding the PPP, added less, and the brakes added about 20 quid, silly really but young driver, grp 20 car etc (i was 30 at the time, driving 10 years, lots of performance cars etc) Tony:) |
Tony I'm not quite sure what point you are trying to get across? Other then your old lol.
You won't lisen to us, we won't lisen to you so this age/experiance thing isn't going to go anywhere. Personaly and I'm sure there others will agree, with the amount of **** heads on our current roads I think I'm fairly well experianced... Yes I have more to learn and one day I too will be old and boring with low premiums but untill then we just have to fall in the prejudice group of 'young high risk drivers' |
The point was an easy one, if you couldnt answer it then you dont understand what I mean by experience, and im not going to spell it out for you :lol1: but the way I look at something on the road seems to be different to what your looking at, thats the big difference ;)
Tony:) |
Every driver will have a different perception on the road... I know alot of older so called experianced drivers that are pretty aweful. You may fall into a small group that are well experianced and we need that on the road to cancel out the crap ones. But my main point is not to jump to gun and assume all younge drivers and silly and inexperianced :)

Tony's just talking about the experience of driving in different weather and traffic conditions through the years, and seeing all of the different things that people can do on the road. Like driving a stretch of road you know quite quickly; a more experienced driver won't drive blind corners flat out because they'll be thinking about the possibility of a car or a tractor moving very slowly or having stopped on the exit of the corner. Or the person that could be walking their dog that you'll run over if you cut too far into the inside of the corner. Or the diesel, etc, that could take away virtually all grip because it's spilled on the road.
You can only possibly learn these things through the years, so Tony does have a point. Me and a mate used to always drive a certain stretch of road we knew like a rally stage in the first year or so after passing our tests. One day we were on it in his car and he decided to just take it easy. Coming round a blind corner, there was an oil tanker sat not far from the exit. If we'd been going quick, we would have gone straight into the back of it... We only just managed to stop when we were doing 50 or so. So that would have been messy! We only learned how the above could have turned out from experience. |

Young idiot drivers own saxo's , 106 gti's So you've owned quick cars and have experience of them - excellent, good for you, a piece of cake. Does this mean you are now automatically a good driver in comparison to the so called idiots in their Saxo's etc? Apologies but you may have wanted to word your reply a little more adequately so as not to come across the hypocrite in this thread. For the record I'm 25 so young still and have a £400 banger [106 funnily enough] to get me to work. Damn I must be a tosser :D |
The premium for young drivers is high for a reason - they make more claims :brickwall It goes down over the years in line with less accidents ;) Ergo older drivers are either better or take less risks ...

Sorry, but you can't argue the toss over a generalisation and then throw your own generalisation into the mix - thats also known as hypocrisy :Whatever_

This is why the mindset is different, an experienced driver is thinking of far more things than just how quick they can go around the corner, do you understand now why your inexperienced and it doesnt matter what car you drive? ;) Tony:) |
Im 23 with 2 years NCB, i got quoted £1600 fully comp on an 03 STI

[QUOTE=TonyBurns;9490025]Proves my point entirely :lol1:
