Unless I was having something very simple and non-invasive (like an x-ray or a VERY simple operation) I'd opt for the NHS evry day of the week :D

Shaun

Why? Is it not the same people doing the ops?

Same here. If I wasn't willing to wait, I wouldn't have been seen for any of my (many) appointments last year.

Only twice have I got a bit mad about waiting, but that was after well over an hour both times. At least the second time we had an apology for the delay and were kept informed.

To the OP, if the ultrasound clinic is the same as the one I was at a couple of weeks ago, then although people arriving after you were being seen first, it's because they are running different clinics so you would have an appointment with a certain one.

Trout 09 March 2010 08:12 PM

I used to have private medical cover and ended up getting worse treatment from the same doctor in the same hospital.

What happened was I went through the private treatment route and it took three weeks to see the consultant. He said to me that had I come into A&E (I had a very badly damaged knee from skiing) he would have operated immediately. However it was now not really worth it as too long had passed since the accident!

Midlife...... 09 March 2010 08:16 PM

Clarebabes.........The private sector makes money by having the bare minimum and spending the minimum amout of money.

Les Dawson died in a private clinic.........that had no proper resus equipment.

I'd rather be poorly in an NHS Hospital.

The private sector are OK for simple, cheap uncomplicated procedures that are low risk.

All IMHO of course LOL

Some of that I agree with.

I've had cancer and was treated brilliantly by the NHS. Top drawer.

However, my ACL reconstruction might still not have happened. The physio I had was always at time convenient to me, at a location convenient to me. Not to mention I was basically told to come back in 2 weeks if my knee didn't feel any better!

Spoon 09 March 2010 08:26 PM

I was with someone today who had just handed over 15k privately and was seen 16 minutes later than booked. Yes they were extremely apologetic but we weren't in any rush while the talent in uniform walked about :D

Midders, you need a break! Most of the filthy NHS hospitals within miles of us are closed to visitors due to Norovirus. Patients come out with more than they go in with.
I was at a Nuffield today and there hasn't been 1 single case of MRSA or Norovirus and the procedures aren't simple, cheap or uncomplicated.

On the other hand I've had superb treatment from a specialist NHS unit that I found myself at. However I'd do all I could to avoid a NHS general hospital now and rather die at home. :)

sarasquares 09 March 2010 08:42 PM

Slightly off topic but i am going in hospital next week for an op but i had the MRSA swab tests done about 6 weeks ago which clear, surely i could pick up MRSA in the meantime and bring it into hospital.

Don't you think that was a bit over the top? should have at least gave him 15 minutes .

Coming from someone who'd give him 30 minutes just for a cock in da ass :D

probably a little dab of jizz in your fresh green salad

If the OP wants to fork out for a private ultrasound then that's up to them, obviously, but maybe the clinic was running (really not particularly) late because somebody further up the line had just received some really bad news, or needed a second opinion about a potentially dangerous/terminal condition discovered on the ultrasound?

Parking at hospitals is often appalling - for staff. What other employer would expect its staff to pay for the pleasure of driving to work?

Exactly, when my mum got a second opinion on her treatment for her cancer we was with the new doctor for over an hour and when we came out the waiting room was full. It was obvious that we had made some patients late for their appointments but as they were desperate for their appointments they accepted the delay with grace.

Bad attitude for the OP to have :(

Luan Pra bang 09 March 2010 09:08 PM

You think you had bad service ?

Neglected by 'lazy' nurses, Kane Gorny, 22, dying of thirst rang the police to beg for water | Mail Online

This guy became so desperate for water that he phoned the Police and asked them for water, despite that he still died of dehydration in a fcuking hospital, every nurse and doctor who treated him should be sent to prison for mansalughter if the details of this case are true.

kingbuttmunch 09 March 2010 09:11 PM

I told my boss I cound not get to work as I waited for the bus for 15 minutes and it didnt turn up so I went home.

PS I did not not read the last post before sending this. I dont want to be insencitve. (Also poor spelling)

I watched that on tv, it made me cry. :(

If a doctor actually sees a patient, on the right day, at the right time then they deserve a medal!

I have been in and out of New Cross with my son and I have had to wait for up to an hour with two moaning toddlers. Thats the NHS, I simply now ask how far they are behind, and then go and take the kids for a walk to the hospital shop.

Simple.

I ring the hospital and ask how the clinic is running. They are usually grateful if you can come earlier or later depending on how things are going.

r32 09 March 2010 10:04 PM

I used to wait for hours and hours for my radiotherapy appointments, quite often being sent home with no treatment. The staff did their best with lack of resources. You were obviously not ill enough.

Couldn't agree more, if you walk away after 15 minutes, then it clearly wasn't important.

David Lock 09 March 2010 10:32 PM

15 mins. And you seem to be serious. What a pathetic attitude. dl

15 mins and you are complaining :cuckoo: My other half broke his big toe, went private with BUPA and we waited for an hour to be seen :thumb:
Got the appointment pretty swift, but the waiting room was just as busy as NHS

15 mins??????

I now have a pressing need to blabber on about how I sat in A&E for 4 hrs spitting out blood into a kidney dish whilst I waited to be seen. The clearly frustrated Doctor apologised for the delay and said they were extremely short staffed. The thought of complaining never entered my mind:wonder:

What a T*T !!
