You can run it on normal unleaded fine, but you have to retard the timing to match which also reduces power. For the extra few pence per litre super costs not worth the loss of power IMHO.....

austinwrx 11 March 2010 03:45 PM

have you noticed the pedal cluster is so tight on the 106 yr feet keep striking several pedals at once ???

bioforger 11 March 2010 06:51 PM

oh noes Choco pls tell me fuel was not the biggest factor for selling the 205 when u could of run the lil fecker on unleaded all along! I use to run mine on 95 all the time, had no issues in what 4yrs.

:lol1: Knew what to expect after having the diesel variant 3 1/2 years ago. That was horrible to drive - the 1.1 petrol is quite nippy in all honesty, regardless what people say.

Why feck around with the timing etc, lose power as was suggested above and STILL get 30mpg max on a run?

That and a shopping list of new replacement parts every month.

It makes sense to run something much younger and frugal for a few months until I'm on better ££.

dunx 11 March 2010 07:44 PM

You should walk, or cycle, the exercise would do you young 'uns some good !

:p

Not really fair to ask my wife to be to cycle 6 miles to work at 6am in the morning, especially through the area she'd need to pass through.

Me, I could walk the 1.7 miles to work - done it before, don't think I'll bother.

You hardly lose any power, mine made 140bhp just with a K&N n new manifold. And the timing is a one off. IIRC mine only needed a new rad n consumables, maybe yours was a bit of a shed?

But I'm looking forward to seeing your Robin.... ;) :D

Mine was 20 years old when I bought it, how old was yours?

Oh yes :D It started out in life looking like this:

https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikiped...arp.750pix.jpg

But had been given an electric blue respray, silver painted steel wheels and a long, bendy aerial by the time I bought it. Actually I added the bendy aerial, removed the hubcaps and sprayed the wheels with 'chrome' paint :lol1:

It was still that lovely green inside though. My Dad had to tow me home every time I went out in it :thumb:

MMT WRX 12 March 2010 03:24 PM

I used to have a 67 F plate estate, same colour as in the pic. It was before I passed my test and used to drive it around the garages at the back of my parents house and then reverse it into my garages every night. It was my first car and all the practise helped me pass my test. :D

I bought mine when I was 16, before I passed my test too. I used to drive it backwards and forwards around our car park :D Mine was the same colour as yours, not sure what happened to the one in my pic :wonder:

Choco, sorry for the thread hijack, two old farts are memory laning... :thumb:

bioforger 12 March 2010 08:53 PM

In that case it probably explains why it needed so much TLC and replacement parts then - especially compared to a 4 year old one (you old get ;) :D ).

Certainly wouldn't describe mine as a shed from pictures anywho. It looked  when clean and running well.

It certainly wasn't a shed. It just suffered from being French :p

I would never laugh at Andy, I'm far too polite :D Besides, I'm currently driving a diesel Vauxhall so I can't say anything :lol1:

As much as I did like his 205 I actually think you've done right to get something cheaper to run, Andy; gets you back in a Scoob where you belong all that sooner :thumb:
