Have a look under the front arches, and see if the tyre is actually rubbing on the inside of the inner wing.
Mine isn't as low as yours, but I get a smidging of rubbing myself. :) |

Looking good dude, So lowering these scoobys is a pain in the arse then?
I was looking for some 5x100 Borbet A's but they are uber rare in 17" 5x100 fitment. so i think im going for a set of rota gforce 18x9 et35 rims shortly, not too sure if im going as low as you but it will be pretty low. Did you look into 215 tyres with the 9.5's? Or is that too much stretch for you? |
Its a pain in the ass, if you cant fabricate/or don't know a good fabricator willing to do the work for you. The notch is easy, you just need a hole cutter, 2 or 3 inch in diameter. But you kinda need to know a welder, or know how to weld to do the arches, as its easy to drill the spot welds out, and hammer them up. Making it neat, and then doing a neat weld is not so easy. Also remember, your taking space out of the bay, so if ur extending the arch, you need to make sure you still have the room up top.
I would like to see a subie on Borbet A's though. They often come up on the VW forums, so ill keep an eye out for you if you like? And regarding the 215's depending of what profile your going for it could be quite difficult, my buddys, just put some 215/40's on a 9.5x18, and they look superb, and were pretty easy to get on as far as i know. But i like to have a bit of girth, hense the 225/35's. |

Snow plough indeed. I have had many a fun time ploughing the snow in my previouse cars, have yet to do it in the Subie though
Oh and GTW - one thing i forgot to mention about extreme lows. Obviously there is alot of stress on the running i.e - shats, cv joints, ARBs, hubs etc. Ive recently started to get a juddering through the front end on hard cornering as i mentioned before. And as no one seems to be this low, im having trouble figuring it out. Im 99% sure its the bearings on the shaft, as ive found no evidence of rubbing. So going to looks at either, shortening the shafts, or raising the engine. I've raised an engine before, and it sorted it out.. but this is a Subaru were talking about, and i really don't want to mess with where the lump sits. But its a cheap and easy(ish) fix. Shaft shortening however is much more expensive, and want to be sure its the shafts causing the problem before i spend the money. |
Thats some extreme lowering dude, I've been low to the point where there was no damper travel left in the shortened bodied coilovers. But not to the point where ive had to lift the engine lol :thumb:

very nice car indeed iv just orderded some rota grids same size and offsets as you in gold for my scooby even before i sin this tread just makes me want them more now iv sin your pics, how much arch work is really involved thats the sort of aggresive stance im looking at

Not planning on going quite as low as inthoughtwelive, mind :) I got them in gunmetal (really wanted bronze), was hard enough getting them in that offset never mind being able to pick and choose colour lol. Saying that Rota's bronze is quite light and wishy-washy on some of their rims and oddly enough the gunmental on the gforces looks quite bronze anyway :D |

And thanks everybody by the way. Yeah i moved from the world of VW and Audis, to Subaru's about 3 or 4 months ago. Feel like im pretty much out of my depth half the time, as its such a drastic change in everything. p.s i was wondering if any of you guys could help me out. A while ago, after i dropped it a little more, i started to get 'juddering' on hard conering, as if somthing was rubbing, like the cv joint/drive shaft etc. I then discoverd that the bottom of my strut was leaning on my cv joing, on close to, and full lock. So i adjusted it acourdingly to stop this happaning, and it stop the 'juddering' Anyway - recently i have fiddled around with camber, and the toe. I'e - given it a bunch more neg camber, and toed it in ever so slightly, and the 'juddering' has come back. The struts are still in the same place regarding where they sit above the CV joint. Any ideas to shed some light on this? As ive chopped and change set up 100 times or so, and getting pretty fed up, escpially has im happy with the way its handling atm. Try setting your toe at 0. |
