You should edit this to remove name, use PM. Firendly MOT ers will disappear otherwise. Used to get mine done there btw ;)
cheers,

Bugger, need to edit mine now :freak3::lol1:

dnc 09 September 2009 10:50 PM

Pimmo,

Have you asked JGM what he would expect? Agree you should get a sports cat d/p before the map...........................time is ticking.

Sure it will be a big difference even without the d/p though so Im sure you'll not be disappointed whatever.

Cheers,
dnc

pimmo2000 10 September 2009 07:32 AM

No, the down cat is looking to cost me £700 so that's out .. I'll live without it ..

JGM will map a standard car so I don't think he's too arsed :)

bioforger 10 September 2009 04:39 PM

£700 ??? where did that figure come from. You won't get much gain at all if you leave it in Pimmo. Approx 230-240bhp tops and torque will be poor.

A sports cat DP Should be around the £300 mark. This is what my old one had;
Impreza Turbo 1993-2000 Classic : Subaru Impreza Ninja Downpipe with Fast Flow 100 Cell Sports Cat

Subaru Performance Exhausts Have a look here mate.
They are a good company to deal with, if you order early tomorrow and pay a bit extra for delivery you may get it Saturday?

was that with a remap? how much torque did it have?

yes it was after the remap. picked up about 90 lbs of torque to take it to 315.
Definitely transforms the car power-wise. Just planning my next set of mods :D

bioforger 10 September 2009 07:37 PM

What's the rush Pimmo? if you miss JGM this Monday y not just rearrange it til u have the correct parts fitted then reschedule with him. If you do a remap without a decat or 100cell it will be a complete waste of time and money imo. Also ring Scoobyworld tomorrow, they maybe able to deliver for Monday if you explain why.

AlanPPP 10 September 2009 08:52 PM

Mark Mark Mark!!!! Arrrrrrgggggghhh what's all this talk about Sport Decats etc and £700!!?? WTF

Just get a normal decatted downpipe from anywere and then leave the fuel pump till after the Map..it will be fine for a while and won't effect the Map when you do.

Don't be spending £500/£600 on a remap without getting the exhaust sorted or you will be wasting time AND money.I won't be doing the Simtek to mine until i have all the mods to support it.I know my injectors are fine to were i want to go (around 300/310) and the exhaust is fully decatted. The only thing holding me back is my TD04 which will max out at around 270 MAX which if i'm spending all this cash is not what i want.

AlanPPP 10 September 2009 08:52 PM

BTW this is from somone who has been there and done it :)

bioforger 10 September 2009 08:55 PM

Likewise!

AlanPPP 10 September 2009 09:09 PM

bigforger he's like talking to a brick wall lol he'll probably do the opposite to what we have said.

pimmo2000 10 September 2009 10:03 PM

:Suspiciou

JGM seems to think it will be a big difference even without the exhaust.

I don't want a decat, I don't want to void my insurance and they have stop checks outside tunnel, I've been stopped and tested three times.

The sports cat would be the way to go for me but not big deal.

If you say the fuel pump is a complete waste of money, I am listening... the garage (you know who they are) say its worth having before the map.

I am listening and I am trying to work out from all the difference advice, what is best. Thank you for the offer of fitting the fuel pump ... :cuckoo:

Ok well here's my last word on it... at the end of the day mate it's your money and your choice so i'll only say this one last time.

Fuel pump....Personally if i was going for more power (like 300 bhp) and it was only going to cost me say £50/£60 then i'd like a new high flow pump rather than relying on an old near 10 year old pump.BUT some guys have ran on the old pump for years running 300 without a hitch. As said though for £50/£60 i'd go for it if i had the money.

Decat's.....Even ditching the downpipe CAT and keeping the centre CAT makes a lot of difference even to a standard car with no map..a lot sharper throttle response for one and maybe about 10 bhp extra. My car now..fully decatted passed it's MOT at a garage that is very well known and near to us so MOT's won't be a problem.I have NEVER been stopped by the coppers in any of my 4 Scoobys for a road side test so you must be unlucky.

If your shelling out for a remap you need to make sure you maximise the benefits...that means more power!! The main reason your getting it.Why bother mapping a car that's being strangled by the restrictive exhaust system??!

If i was in your shoes the least i'd want before getting an ECUTEK map is a panel filter and a fully decatted exhaust.Regardless wether JGM is happy doing it with or without, i'm very suprised he hasn't given you this advise already TBH.

I'm going for a Simtek to do away with the MAF and uprating my turbo and i'll be very happy with the 290/300 i'll be getting.

I aint a Guru on Scooby tuning far from it but i have owned 4 now with my last WRX running 320 BHP with the Decatted exhaust...Walbro...Ind kit..FMIC and an ESL Daughterboard.

If you need any more help mate i'm not far away from you and don't mind getting my hands dirty to save you some cash..i'll PM you my number if you want it.

Regards

Alan

Also on the insurance side all my mods are declared ;)

I think the way I post sounds like I'm not listening to you and Bio... that's the problem, I am listening and I'm frantically trying to match your advice to our local garage.

I have been unlucky with the road side stops and it makes me nervous the thought of it failing, I would get my first set of points and if it wasn't for that.. I would without a doubt get the total Decat.

Reading on sports Cats to normal, for the £300 + fitting I'm looking at 20bhp max .. £300 will mean I cant afford (at the moment) to replace my windows which run like they have sand in the runners.

I want to do what's best for the car and for my money .. and I want to listen to you two and get the best I can, I know thats what you're aiming for for me.

I understand the concepts of breathing and modification, but I need to balance the gains against the money and the "extras" I will lose. The windows bug the **** outa me but for that little bit more power ... I dunno... is it worth it ...

I'm going to try and source a sports down pipe today, based solely on the advice from you two.

Summers over now, you can just keep the windows up??.
That is except for when you have a blast through a tunnel to listen to your new exhaust ;)

pimmo2000 11 September 2009 09:36 AM

will it be louder with a decat ?

Not that its booked in to have that done .. :)

If JGM reckons it will make a decent difference without decat, Im sure it will. Getting a freer-flowing system will be better for sure tho. Reckon you can get a sports cat by next Weds no probs, £300. Reckon you'll still see 250-260 without decat/sports cat? and that will be pretty quick in a classic and noticeable over std. Hope you can get things sorted in time :thumb:

I felt sorry for him :)
