Before tax they may be cheaper. After tax they are not.
|
Also think it only applies to UK cars not imported.
|
So lets see, £2k for your banger....
Buy an equivalent new car that may fall into the the higher VED tax which by 2010 will be up to £455, plus you could be paying 18.5% VAT on your new car and lets not forget the "showroom tax" that will be levied on new cars too of up to £950.............sorry did Darling not mentioned that in his budget? |
Your shed will need an MOT before it can be scrapped.... :lol1:
How post-ironic is that?? :cuckoo: |
£2k gets you a nearly new luxobarge at the moment...!
|
Its 2k for your ****box. which is 1k from the govenment and the other 1k from the dealership. The brands dont have to sign up for it, and to be fare most people with **** bags cant afford new cars anyway, hense why they drive **** bags. lol
|
as said earlier the people with these sorts of cars can not afford or do not want to put money into new cars, and the sort of cars they probably would swap them for don t have enough profit in them to give £1000 (some cars sold at list do not make £1000 profit) from the manufacturer, therefore not making any money on the car and not helping the industry either

Just another load of smoke and mirrors in an effort to distract us from the real story that the budget is telling us!

TBH i wonder how many people owning 10+ y/o cars, valued at 200.00 approx have the 10,000.00 or so cash to buy a new car or can get finance in this day and age. Typical NL, i bet this looked like a real good idea and vote getter on paper when the 21 y/o just out of uni Muppet presented this his/her brainchild to the minister who then claimed it was their idea- if only they bothered to look a bit deeper and see the obvious and massive flaw in the plan! New Labour - No Idea! |

Let's just get one thing straight ............... such is the Class of the MX5, you will not find a good runner for less than £2000!! Even a 20 year old one!
MX5's are NEVER bangers ... |

The whole scheme is flawed from the outset.
Think about it, why are people driving about in so called 'old bangers' now? It's not out of choice mostly due to the current climate, a lot of people (myself included) have had to sell up their new/nearly new motors to cutback on costs and free up some emergency cash. What no one seems to be asking or answering is what happens to average Joe Public who cashes in his old car, gets £2k or whatever monopoly money and then needs a new car? Slight flaw in this logic, if the person didn't have the money in the first place to get a new car what makes this stupid goverment think they will have an incentive to buy a new model? Personally I would not want to get into more debt through a loan just to be able to purchase one of the new models rolling off the line - all to help the autmotive industry... bollox. That's this goverment in a nutshell, one dumbsht idea after another :hjtwofing to the idea and the Govt. |
Does the banger really need an MOT? Bugger, I'm picking up my new Alfa next week and was hoping to trade in my V8 Soarer that was due to go to the scrappers anyway. Anyone got a link to full details of the scheme? I'm not sure I trust my dealer to give me the full story.

New Labour - No Idea! Also.... some people need to think what it will be like next year when income tax for EVERYONE goes up by 10p in every pound for a minimum of 12 months. You mark my words. Just because it was not announced this week (I wonder why when an election is next year lol), it will happen. We are ALL in for a MAJOR shock come next year and just when you are hearing that the markets are starting to pick back up. roflol This pain has not even gain real momentum yet!! The banking system and the idiots who borrowed more money than they could afford have got a lot to answer for!!! |
