It's a rather warm -4C (with windchill that's -9C ) over here, it will warm to 1C later tonight when we're expecting 1 - 3 cm of snow overnight (oh joy, clearing the driveway in the dark with manflu tomorrow morning :D)

unclebuck 06 January 2009 04:15 PM

I was walking in it at dawn. Canal frozen pretty much enough to skate on now. Fountains in Trafalgar Square have been switched off - frozen solid. I'll be walking back along the towpath after dark tonight. Probs be about minus 9 or 10.

None of this ghay car driving for me! :lol1:

Jamo 06 January 2009 04:26 PM

minus 11 when I started work at 6am this morning according to my lorry (its this years model and has only covered 30k kms) so presume its accurate  it was tatters!!!! :(

Alg 06 January 2009 04:38 PM

-11 too when leaving Newmarket this morning.
That was at 9am

austinwrx 06 January 2009 04:43 PM

was out cycling in it last night- bingley west yorkshire: the water in my camel back type drink thing kept freezing up in the tube.

between the 5 of us: two had broken chains: it was absolutely as grim as anything fixing chains on top of ilkley moor in this weather. A lot better keeping moving and warm.

stuart n 06 January 2009 05:58 PM

It was -5.5 when I left mine for work at half 7 this morning and it reached a whopping 0.5 at lunchtime in Sudbury.

Iwan 06 January 2009 06:29 PM

It's -5 outside now in Swindon.

Was in Maine fair while ago and that was -12 during the day and eyebrows were freezing as i walked down the street

similarly -35 to -40 out in the boondocks 40 miles inland

samcowrx 06 January 2009 09:30 PM

I am sure that -37 c must feel a bit chilly.

kbsub 06 January 2009 09:40 PM

Yup -37 is the coldest I've been out in , But that's just the ambient temperature with wind chill -45 and with that you cant have any exposed skin for more than ten minutes, otherwise ...Frostbite

Still Snowing here :)

Lisawrx 07 January 2009 12:27 AM

No snow here to speak of but it is very cold. Keeps trying to snow, but never really gets going.

I dread to think what the heating bill will be. :(

I'm sorry to here that, how you going to sleep in this? :(

I remember one year, over Christmas/New Year, we had a problem with our gas, had a small fire, and the gas was condemned. No heating, hot water, fire or cooker, but for all that bad stuff, we were more a family than ever, snuggling up etc. It was good in that way, but bloody cold.

Hope you get it fixed soon, for now it'll be coal fire and cuddles, I think.

Boro 07 January 2009 12:47 AM

-7 on the way home tonight. Got speaking to some coppers who had -9.5 and were off in search of double figures, lol.

Our local reservoir was frozen over tonight and attracted a few locals. No doubt tomorrow ice skating will commence.

Lisawrx 07 January 2009 12:49 AM

No doubt, I'd never skate on a frozen reservoir/lake etc. just in case.
