what did they say about it when it ran on the rollers?

Tidgy 15 September 2008 01:02 PM

other thing i noticed is the map correct? (going on very basic knowledge here so may be ok lol) the boost should be stable and also the fueling should be, seems to be jumping about and fueling seems to trail off rather than level off.

these are a couple of my old graphs

while there is some movement seems much smother over all?

Yes my thinking is exactly the same. But as this is my first Scooby and first rolling road I don’t know what to expect.

But from graphs I have seen from other fast Scooby’s (260bhp +) there AFR drops straight to 11.1 at about 3500 – 4000 rpm but my car tapers as you said, then it fluctuates.

If anyone with a Bit of mapping experience could give me there opinion it would be appreciated

I also noticed that your map is not standard as you are peeking at 18psi and tapering to 16 psi ( At least that’s how I read it )

If anyone has standard graphs or other graphs the comparison of the AFR / PSI and power would also be appreciated

hi there

i have a 97 WRX wagon, its totally standard appart from a dumpvalve that came with it when i bought the car. I too have had it on the dyno at Wallace Performance (and incidentally found them to be very good!)

Falconer, i have just looked at your graphs and compaired them with mine:
our power out puts are identical at just under 225bhp, despite mine running lower boost (just under 12psi peak) although yours is making 15ftlbs more torque then mine, but then on the other hand mine is making more torque in the lower rpm range, but o/a our power and torque graphs are very very similar. I had just replaced my boost control pipe work and restrictor pil (1.2mm bore). perhaps you are running a 1.2mm restrictor pill if the engine is from the wagon and the WRX saloon takes a 1mm??? i mean i would have thought your boost figure is ok, but...

i believe the 97-- wagons where 240ps (236bhp) and the pre '97 220ps (217bhp). But bascially asside from your higher boost and higher torque, it looks like you have the same engine as me!! but you are running a WRX saloon ECU, so maybe it is a pre-97 engine and the ECU is managing to push things up a bit past standard (217bhp) but not by much. if it wasn't for your already good boost i would have suggested restrictor pill.

If you think i can help out more let me know mate-- very interesting post:)
Regards, Ash

interestingly your "power at the wheels" figure is 4bhp more then mine despite identical peak power figures... would have thought the correction factor would be the same as both classic imprezas! Something to do with your higher peak torque??

I have looked on Which engine do I have and other sites for info in the engines a have seen that early wagons produce 220ps on about 10 - 11 psi but iv not seen any confirmation of different compression ratios.

But this is the exactly sort of info im looking for thanks Nick :thumb:

Also does any one know if there are engine number stamped in on the block and where you can fined them. I did look but all I could see was the ej20 stamp and the closed deck hatching

The principal differences are the smaller Mitsubishi TD04 turbo and the ECU. If you post the engine code then at least someone will be able to tell you what it was out of (not just EJ20...).

Which engine do I have

According to that Wagon engines go from 220hp to 250hp depending on type A, B, C etc, how do you tell which type someone has? We are running a TD05 on ours with Saloon ECU, it's a 1995 Wagon so what should it have come with power wise originally?

T

'Wagon engines were 220PS from 1993-1996 and 240PS from 1997 onwards. The 1994 STI 'Wagon was rated at 250PS as were the Saloons. The 1996 STI V2 'Wagon was rated at 260PS (the Saloon was rated at 275PS) and it used a completely standard 1996 Saloon engine and ECU. The V3 STI onwards 'Wagons were rated at 280PS and used the same engines as the STI Saloons.

One further point: the C&K site is absolutely snided with errors, so Id take much of it with a pinch of salt.

Hi ash thanks for your information. I would be very interested in comparing are graphs especially the AFR and PSI curves

falconer 16 September 2008 09:45 AM

Thanks Simon for your input. Do you know where on the block i can fined the full engine number so that I can find out where it came from thanks

falconer 16 September 2008 09:47 AM

I would just like to add that Im not bad mouthing Wallace performance the guys there were very friendly and inspected under the bonnet before running the car. They highlighted a few miner faults like part of the wiring loom touching the exhaust heat shield. it would have melted if they had not noticed it and the beginning of a split in the vacuum pipe to the dump valve.
They were very tender with my car until they were happy it was safe to run (as I had explained about the replacement engine)

Wallace told me my fuel and boost looked good but it looked so much different form other graphs I have seen I just wanted some comparisons.

Will I have me car back and after checking things over I found that the bottom pipe of the boost solenoid is venting to atmosphere like in the picture below.
Also there is no sign of a restrictor pill. I don’t suppose its that big of a problem getting a new pill from Subaru but what should I do with the end of the pipe as I have an induction kit fitted and no air box to plumb it in to
http://www.polarperformance.co.uk/Boost_Control.jpg

jaytc2003 23 September 2008 02:01 PM

its okay venting to air, all it does if plumbed into your filter (assuming oe) is vent it back into the intake so no need to worry about this.

falconer 06 October 2008 07:33 PM

I have checked for a restrictor pill in between the turbo housing and the boost solenoid valve and there dose not seem to be one. I have a 3 port solenoid and don’t have the t-peace like in the tutorial below

How Subaru's Factory Boost Control System Works v1[1] 01

In this tutorial it says that a pro drive 3 port solenoid dos not require a restrictor pill

So should I have a restrictor pill for a standard 3 port solenoid and if so what diameter hole should it have for a TD05 turbo

adzer 06 October 2008 07:44 PM

your pill will be in the bottom pipe coming from ur boost solenoid, which will go to ur airbox/induction kit

falconer 06 October 2008 08:31 PM

Ok so do you either have a pill in the bottom of the solenoid valve or after the turbo outlet nipple depending on what valve you have
