Agree with Stu Frayz, i'm sure once u get back into it you'll rediscover how good it must feel to drive. They say the grass is always greener, and i'm sure the feelings u have for the RS's are the same as most of us feel about our first girlfriend, never go back as it's never as good as it was the first time round.
I bet if you drove a RS500 back to back against your STi the scooby would win hands down.

Mind you against a sorted Escort Cosworth i'm not so sure ;)

tiny gsy 05 February 2008 05:12 PM

why don`t you take yours for a drive to somewhere thats got an escort cossie for sale and take it for a test drive? that way you`ll have a back to back comparison of what they`re like and you can then make a decision

frayz 05 February 2008 09:20 PM

If i go and look at a nice cossie,, wether i drive my car or not. I'll buy the cossie with my heart and not my head lol.

Ive just taken mine out tonight, felt okay... still rather uninvolving though :(

Frayz. Your situation is a bit like getting an invite from a wild ex to have a roll in the hay for old times sake. You have rose tinted specs on and you remember that she was a great sh*g and it'll be familiar and exciting at the same time.

BUT

You're forgetting that you dumped her cause she was mental and gave you the clap. :D

So it is with the Cossie. I grew up with these cars, so can well understand their appeal, but the truth is the game has moved on significantly since then and the reason they feel exciting is that they are crude and a bit scary. You'd enjoy that for a bit, but then you'd miss the ability of the Scooby.

The cossie would be a step back in pretty much every respect, especially if you have a forged 2.5 build imminent. That should put the wind back up you! ;) :D

Frayz don't do it!!!

I'm new to the forum and from what I have seen your's is one of the best cars on here, haven't you got a load of neat one off touches?:thumb:

Personally I would finish it, you may regret it in future having come so far

Remember: "Way out in front!!, wheels spinnin, flame spittin, turbo spoolin!!!........ On the quest for 450/450"

That said only one person can make the decision - and I'm sure any Cossie would end up just as mint - just hang fire as already said.

Diesel_DC 06 February 2008 11:06 AM

Frayz,

You need to see through the current build and see how you feel after that.

Would be a lot of wasted effort speccing up the build and sourcing the parts without ever seeing the fruits of your labour.

Get it done, get it run in and get yourself back over to the ring to see if it meets your demands mate.

Then you can make a more informed decision.

David :thumb:

Tidgy 06 February 2008 12:37 PM

as said think you should wait till you have the build complete on your current car and see what you think, guessing 400-500 mark with the build spec you have, and that will make the scoob a different animal.

frayz 06 February 2008 04:15 PM

One of the other main points is that I dont look at my car and think " yeah... that looks the t1ts''. However any variant of Cosworth gives me the horn...

Not even a 22b comes close in the desireability factor.

RB5SCOTT 06 February 2008 04:17 PM

Its taken you ££££££££££££'s and this long to realise how boring the impreza's are. I spent around 30k on mine (and most of that was "im in too deep i must carry on") before i threw in the towel 3 years ago, i went from 400bhp impreza to 150bhp MX5. Guess what, the mx5 was ten times better and more fun to drive. I have now got a navara pickup (which is probably still better to drive) and an E46 M3

Brendan Hughes 06 February 2008 04:22 PM

1. Strip out all your soundproofing
2. Fit one cross-ply tyre to the left rear wheel.
3. Reduce front right wheel psi by 15.

Should keep you awake in future :)

Can we stop canonising old Fords, ok they were alright but paying vast amounts for a Old Cosworth or any other old Ford is mental really, I think nostalgia is clouding the reality a bit, much as I go a bit perculiar when I see an D reg Moonstone blue 3 door I know that in reality its an old Sierra, if its cheap enough to use as a daily driver its will be a pain in the arse, otherwise it will be too good to put any miles on or you end up chroming the underside and ending up unable to drive it.

I think they are cars to have when you have space, time and money to have more than one car.

In the meantime, finish the Scoob.

davyboy 06 February 2008 07:16 PM

New cars are a bit boring.

An older classic car that may be slower, it may handle worse, it may crash and bang over bumps.......but none of that really matters.

What matters is giving you a driving experience.

Imagine opening the garage on a Sunday to a 3 door cossie. Thats something special that a 10 a penny Subaru can't match.

Faults are different mate.. its not about owning the car thats most driveable, newest, quietest interior blah blah blah.

Its about me wanting to own something that isnt the soulless piece of sh1t im driving now. What will my scoob be worth in 5 years? Now ask yourself what a mint cossie will be worth?

I've been in the company of 2.... yes 2 RS200 Evo's tonight...

I nearly wet myself lol.

This is exactly what my scooby will never be, no matter how much money i throw at it. No matter how fast it is, no matter how well it handles blah blah.

Its just not "special" enough to me.

I think this happens when you get older too. You want to own cars that were cool when you were 18.

My 944 will soon be for sale, but we've had some good times together....for over 5 years!

frayz 06 February 2008 07:43 PM

Im only 24 mate lol :D

I like to think i still am young :D

"MADDOG" 06 February 2008 07:52 PM

3 door = 204bhp
RS500 = 224bhp
2wd saff = 205bhp
4wd saff = 220bhp
Escy T34 = 227bhp
Escy T25 = 227bhp

All of the above with very little work will see 330bhp without any stress whatsoever.
