MRK 30 January 2002 12:20 PM

So what has Askew bought anyway's??

OK Matt I shall put you out of your misery. I decided that with all the money I'm spending on trackdays, 9 last year plus two trips to the Ring, slicks spare wheels, blah, blaahhh, I should go do it properly. Sooooo I competeing in the Hot Hatch championship this year.

The Kiwi machine is a Saxo VTR, damn fast OOPPPPAALLAAAAAHHHH :D

And yeah you being a camera car for a few laps of dicing about will be great, thanks :D

The Ring trip I'll bring me Scoob :)

M

Type R 30 January 2002 12:29 PM

Nice one, will be intrested to see how my car compares to a full race spec 1600CC.

Lime green thou, horses for course i suppose.

I agree the Scoob must be twice the cost i pay, to put my tin box round the track.

jon hill 30 January 2002 01:28 PM

mark - which series are you planning on taking part in ?

(hot hatch ? - i'm guessing 750mc stock hatch ?)

I bought a 205 1.6 Roadsaloon racer to take part in the BRSCC Roadsaloon series, but they've reinstated the trailer rule - you now _have_ to drive the car to the circuit, no trailers allowed. I'm not up for insuring & taxing the car and driving it 500 miles a weekend so thats out the window.

I then looked at the 750MC stock hatch championship, but it appears to be somewhat less gentlemanly than what I'm after. Panel damage after every race is not my idea of cheap racing. Now I'm looking at the castle coombe saloons - hopefully with some mods i may get a car which will be somewhere in the back of the pack, rather than running 6 seconds behind the second last guy... But if there's another option for a 1600 205 gti in near standard trim, I'd be very interested.

Regardless, i'll see you on the 10th (like I said above, i'll be running the engine in, so my excuses are ready made... :) )

jon

Mat lime green NOOOOO kiwi green, totally different, and besides it sure does stand out from the crowd.

As for cost yep the scoob munches fuel at 7mpg, and the average track day I do 50+ laps. So that’s plenty of money.

Mind you though this stripped out feared by hell racer is also proving expensive, and I haven’t race it yet

Jon yes I’m doing the 750mc HOT hatch, not stock, hatch, ohhh nooo, man there animals in that series. I think they all work for scrap yards or something, so have plenty of spare panels. The Hot Hatch Championship is thankfully very different to the stock hatch banger racing, like you mentioned. its a much better class of car and driver. Basically the hot hatch is an anything goes modification wise series.

I’ll look forward to seeing you on the 10th.

L8rs chappers :D

I always bring Millers Octane boost, spare pads Etc just in case (and Gaffa tape if I know Stef is coming). ;)

The Zohan 09 February 2002 06:57 PM

Gonna try to get there and ponse a few rides (nothing new there then) ;)

johnfelstead 09 February 2002 09:15 PM

Guess what girls. My westie has wheels and tyres and steering thingies again! :D

I have just finished bolting the beasty back togther after such a long time off the road due to thieving toerags attacking the poor thing and taking my wheels and tyres.

The wheels are bling, blinging as the yanks say. I'll soon change that with a bit of hard braking. :D

sooooooo, be rude not to do Dono now wouldnt it. :D

See you lot there. :D

Type R 09 February 2002 09:38 PM

John nice to see your back on the seen, see you tomorrow.

Please can you take my g/f for a few laps, she's after a bit of excitement [;)] after a craapppy week of work.

Matt

johnfelstead 09 February 2002 09:43 PM

Sure, first run is going to be on my own, i need to check the car out after such a long time and so many bits replaced, just need to make sure it's safe before i take anyone out.

After that, it's normal, women and frogs first mode. :D:lol:

Type R 09 February 2002 09:50 PM

Cheers mate

Hope you won't be staying up as late as me.

MRK 11 February 2002 04:10 PM

:D OOPPPPPAAALAAAAHH :D

Well that was a top day on track. First time for me in my kiwi green mean Saxo race machine, and it was a damn bit scary on the first session with all that other stuff blasting past me, the noise, vibrations, being wedged in a race seat so low to the floor I was looking like three feet tall from the outside, and the extraordinary tendency to go sideways with the slightest lift of the gas pedal. That will teach me to opt for the 'fast' session in a new car

But come session two and I was away, the car was fantastic. The most fun I've had on a track day in ages. I got quicker and quicker as each session went on. The westfields were disappearing behind me, until Jonny Felsted came out of nowhere, and zipped past, but he doesn't count, hehehehe :D wicked. The car was just brilliant to drive, so responsive, and fast coming out of the corners, mad :D

I would like to thank Matt Oz for turning up to offer moral support, and Andy Timmins for his pit assistance. And it was great to see Matt Type R (looking forward to viewing the mini cam footage, it looked excellent), Tim, Nathan and Chris P, and all the others. It was more like a Scooby day than anything else.!!.

Nice to meet you Chris (Mellow), and all the other usual suspects most named in Marks message.

Had a good day, first time i drove with slicks on a damp track and it scared the pants out of me, lift off mid corner and the thing wanted to swop ends.

Bad news thou, is the shocks and springs definetly need replacing, i was not totally convinced so i took it to my friendly workshop where they do all my work, and they told they need replacing like yesterday. I suppose just under 40000 miles and 14 ++++++++++ Trackdays has taken its toll, they reckon they have worn out quicker due to the fact they were not designed for UK roads not the trackdays, although running slicks won't have helped.

But 40000 miles aint bad.

Mellow Yellow ! 12 February 2002 07:34 AM

Ditto.....wasn't it fun though in the morning....damp track...full slicks...and watching all the open tops gently tottering around ;)

johnfelstead 12 February 2002 10:47 AM

i wasnt :p:D

Mellow Yellow ! 12 February 2002 11:59 AM

John, you never totter mate....barring after the odd glass or two....so I've heard ;)

Now....about my offer....

johnfelstead 12 February 2002 12:28 PM

Chris, make me an offer that isn't an insult and we can talk, otherwise bog off ;):p

I dunno, you want a car that outperforms an R500 for 1/4 the price (aint gonna need a £10K new engine every year either!), not going to happen mate. :D
