In a fully laden lorry it takes planning to stop. Thats why you leave space. Just for some idiot in a car to cut in front of you. I think many car drivers have no conception of what it is like to drive a vehicle that dosent stop dead when you touch the brakes.
Why is one lorry overtaking another one on a hill at a slightly higher speed?
Often it is not bloody mindeness but Momentum.
Lose your momentum when going up hill fully loaded and you are going down the box losing speed rapidly.

(I used to drive flat beds fully laden with turf - which was a very heavy load when wet. And a very easy one to lose when dry)

An artic went through the central reservation near Newport on the M4 recently - caused chaos from 02:00 Weds till they had it fixed the FOLLOWING Tuesday. I dont think they could have made the job last any longer:rolleyes:.

Same thing happened near the M4/M5 interchange this week, but that was gone by the afternoon. Take note Gwent police please!

I must say I sense some BS is being talked here - esp about car drivers cutting trucks up? Do people regularly pull back into lane 1 sharply after passing a truck? Cant say I've seen it and it would hardly be out of a sense of being p'd off with having to pass a speed limited truck in a much faster car???:wonder:

Also safety often goes out the window when you start talking about 'momentum'. Only a total wimp truck driver ever lifts off - we all know that. Even if the vehicle in front is doing 55mph, they HAVE to do 56, so mind yer arse!

To be fair, bad driving is pretty infrequent - only been tailgated by another truck (when following a truck o-v-e-r-t-a-k-i-n-g another truck) once in past few months. And havent seen anything dodgy in ages on my daily M4 commute. However dropping a tailgater down to 40mph usually gets em going :D and hopefully they use a bit more cocunut next time as 'professional' drivers when deciding to ignore issues of mass, safety, common sense and momentum.

Yes all the time, and every working day of my life , Junc 26 M62 is a classic example, I get in the middle lane long before the Junc just because I know every car will decide they want to be off at the next junc- dive in then brake because there is a queue of car drivers slowing down in lane 1 .

Roundabouts are another good example , They have to be in front of the truck before the roundabout and usually end up going too fast on entry .

Your first example affects all lane 1 users mate. The second one I recognise - you can be stuck a long time behind a truck waiting to pull out at a roundabout, where often a car can nip out, so yes I have seen drivers cut up trucks in that instance:nono:

Yes it does affect all users , put the point being .. cars can stop a whole lot quicker than 44 tonne lorries , and get back up to speed in a few seconds, And one of the reasons Lorry drivers hate losing momentum.
