Remember the CGI is over 10 years old - by cgi standards thats a lifetime !
Compare that to the recent Poseidon movie, esp the first couple of mins where the hero is jogging around the decks of the ship - that shows you what a difference 10 years makes ! At the time, Titanic was state of the art cgi (One of the major reasons it went sooo far over budget & time) I like the movie, but really only because major tragedies like this interest me from a histroical point of view. I didnt watch Titanic when it first came out due to all the hype and was ready to slate it as a chick flick. When it was still in the Cinema several months later I watched it was really impressed with attention to detail and was never bored in the whole 3hrs or however long it was. When you see how much time Cameron dedicated to every detail e.g. getting actors that looked the same as original people (from photos) esp the Captain is remarkable. Its probably down to Camerons love of the ocean (Titanic, Abyss, Bismarck, The Dive etc). He has produced some great films including several of my all time favourites: Terminator 2 Aliens Point Break He also produced / directed the T2:3D Battle Against Time films at Universal Studios (LA and Florida) which at the time were awesome (aged a little now some 11 yrs on but still going strong). Now that bit did annoy me. IIRC, the guy in real life gave up his own place in a lifeboat and went down with the ship.
Why on earth did they have to do that to a brave man's actions. Didn't the film makers pay some piddling amount of compensation to the guy's surviving relatives? They could have invented another fake character to be the man who shoots himself. |
If you forget about the love story bit of it it's not really too bad ;-)
