Just like the 7 million+ smokers stood up in uproar that the ban in smoking at public places:p . Not quite on the same par but once the old propaganda machine gets rolling there is no stopping them.

true but this is a wee bit diffrent, this is gonna cost people Xammount of thousands in lost cars etc as i very much doubt the government will compinsate those who have lost there cars due to being over 10 years old, know wot i mean :)

danfranklin1 03 June 2007 08:59 PM

Signed.... if Brussels are seriously considering this, it's another example of pure idiot stupidity- how can replacing cars every ten years be 'greener' than keeping them on the road longer, reducing the enormous amount of waste involved in manufacturing a new one etc.... surely this one's been argued to the death by now?

Can you imagine the knock-on effect of this legislation?

Garages, parts suppliers, showrooms, insurance companies, petrol companies.
thousands out of jobs as a result.

Also, who would then want to own a nine year old car knowing that it could be scrapped or over-taxed when it reaches 10.

Mind you, there'd be some cheap decent 9.75 year old cars available :D

Worst thing is, who would the New-age owners banter with if there were no Classics?

Joking aside, the more I think about it, the more disgusted I get.

petition is here :-
Petition to: Reject any proposals to ban or restrict the use of older cars.

If you don't trust links in threads then copy and paste it to the address bar on your home page.

we can't let this happen, please take time to sign the petition.

There are a number of cities around the world where such bans already exist - however the difference is it only applies to heavy vehicles that belch and fart diesel particulates by the sack load.

Not usually private cars.

JPF 04 June 2007 11:47 PM

Cant see it happening to be honest as I'm shore the industry based on classic and old cars in general(parts suppliers ,restorers etc)in the country is probably quite big, doesn't look good for a government to destroy businesses and lose jobs, which is what would happen, I'm shore there's also a lot of government ministers and MPs with rich friends who like driving there classic cars, not to mention the Royal family's old Rolls and Bentleys....signed anyway you never know.

I don't want to tempt fate but I can't see a ban happening. There is too much emotion attached to the past especially in a country like Great Britain. We are the country of the old, having pubs that date back to before the dark ages so f**king with our cars is going to strike a raw nerve with quite a few people:mad: :brickwall.

I proposed on another thread a go slow on the M25 in protest of the increase in road tax but few got behind that:( .

Do you want to see your Liberties eroded by power hungry half wits?

sign the petition and prepare for action if need need be:mad:

I fecking hate new cars, it's impossible to fix them yourself when they go wrong:( as a result, i currently own:

1978 Honda CB550K
1986 Ford Sierra XR4x4
1991 VW Golf GTi 16V
1994 Subaru Legacy Turbo

So unless we get a government with some backbone, that'll be me screwed then:rolleyes::(

Don't be too sure. We're seeing a slow but steady erosion of our civil liberties in this country... just last week it was revealed bailiffs were to be given increased powers of entry into people's houses, surveillance by CCTV and other forms is rife etc etc... shocking though it sounds now, it's not beyond the realms of imagination that in a few years time government inspectors could be knocking on the door of some old chap and towing away his beloved E-Type to be crushed.

them e-petitions do jack, you just get a bull**** e-mail in your inbox telling you why you are wrong. England is a ****hole nazi state controlled by arseholes and do-gooders.
