No hunny bunny, like I said, I'm no turbo expert, although I do have considerable experience racing motorbikes and rebuilding them after I break em (cos I'm ****). I am aware that the prodrive ECU is a sealed box BUT, would it not be reasonable to suggest that each car requires individual set up with regards to fuel/air mixture, especially when its clocked up a few miles, after all, no two engines are the same. I was also asking the question that if it was as simple as pluging in and driving off, why did my new car get delivered with 70 miles on the clock and another lads have over 100?

The PPP ecu is just a modified STi unit, which is a modification of the standard Subaru ecu. I just fitted fitted a new PPP, and have read the install instructions - plug & play!

Subaru build/map them to be toleranced for a wide range of cars. Which is why a conversion to a link/motec/unichip/sportec/et al allows you to set it up better and specifically for the car in question......and closer to the limits.

Mind you Stef - that extra 10% of boost probably tipped the scales; bad luck! For info only, what were your peak/helds with the PPP? You got a my98?

Sti's are meant to have higher quality components than the Uk cars - so are the Turbos harder wearing than Uk ones or exactly the same ?

Well I'm bloody glad turbos on bikes are as popular as a ginger haired step son. I'm still trying to come to terms with fookin fuel injection, gone are the days when you could sort out all yer problems by just sticking big fook off main jets in!

Then again, it means you can stick some decent cans on an SP1 and get a massive increase in midrange without doing ANYTHING else.

Saves buying a Dynojet kit, and has the advantage of taking about ten minutes.

I am pretty certain that fitting the PPP ecu had nothing to do with CK1's demise, especially as boost had not increased hardly at all (max 15psi MY98). There is no question that my car was vastly quicker than it was, and perhaps this bit of extra go put an already stressed turbo over the limit?
It may well also explain my cars poor performance on the rollers the previous day, although I have to say it felt no slower on the way home! http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/smile.gif
Still, whatever the cause, it's done now.
The track seaseon is over, and I've got my trusty Merc estate to see me through, so perhaps it would be a good time to look at some other options?
